I don't think I've ever seen one here, but I was thinking that a classical languages general would be pretty neat to have.

I think it'd be cool to have a thread for anons studying classics and/or classical languages or for anons interested in it in general to have a thread to congregate towards.

The language scope would focus primarily on Greek, both attic and koine, and Latin, from early antiquity to later church Latin and others. Further, original historical documents can be analyzed and discussed to keep with the topic of the board.

I don't really have an OP typed up for this cause I don't know if anybody is interested in this or not. Hopefully people are and links to resources can be posted along the way.

Are humans good or evil by nature?
54 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
It's a toss up which human trait has played a larger role in human suffering.

Fear or laziness
>>
There is no such thing as "evil" in absolute terms because it's all relative. Hitler was "evil" to Jews but Jews are "evil" to Europeans. Jeffrey Dahmer wasn't "evil" if you understand that he had chemical imbalances in his brain which prevented him from being normal. When Muhammad Akbar rapes a woman it's not because he is "evil" but because he is 10th generation inbred arranged marriage autistic, etc.
>>
Laziness. Good or at least benign neutrality is usually easier overall in the long run.

What the FUCK was his problem? How does a genocidal maniac like this even COME to power?

I mean, Hitler hated people who weren't germans, but Pol Pot straight up killed his own people. Literally 25% of the population, fucking gone.

Why?

I know this isn't /k/ but /his/torically speaking:
Who did the longsword/great sword better?

Scottish? Spanish? Japanese?

>claymore
>Nodachi
>Espada Bastarda
>Miaodao
>Bidenhänder

Which of them had the most use? Most kills? significant names of warriors who used them? Battles where there was use of them?

Why were the Japanese so good at making really long really light and really skinny swords?

Why were the Spanish and Italians really good at making really decorative, really long, and really heavy swords?

When did long swords/great swords see their most popular day of use? When did they meet their end or decline?

>so good at making really long really light and really skinny swords?

Nodachi were hardly light and skinny. They were pretty heavy, often only the tip would be sharpened and they were often used to bludgeon.

They were fairly popular with those who could afford them though, they were less prone to breaking than wooden polearms and were long enough to compete with polearms. They were often used both in duels and in battle by some of the most famous swordsmen in Japanese history

Why are Spaniards so butthurt about Gibraltar, when they lost so much more in the treaty of the Pyrenees?
Gibraltar is a rock with a population of barely 30,000, meanwhile Rossellón has a population of 400,000 and engulfs the actual city of Perpiñán, not to mention that it separates the catalonian people, making the spanish state lose legitimacy among catalonians as their legitimate state.
