Has anyone here come up with or invented their own ideology?
Yes but I'm not telling you what it is because it would lessen my control over you
Anarcho-Maoism

Pretty much everyone who is intelligent enough to think for themselves.
Was Julius Caesar justified in his response to the senate?
>>2611185
>>2611185
>If you like the Republic
Then no, he broke laws and the Senate wished to punish him. He then destroyed the fabric of the Rome for his own personal gain.
>If you prefer the post republic empire
Then yes, Julius was a symptom of the dying Republic and had he not done what he did someone else would have come along anyways. He set Rome on a trajectory that would see it rise to its greatest.
In reality its not so black and white, and the truth is a combination of these two heavily oversimplified ideas.
>>2611272
How did he destroy the fabric of Rome? Was he supposed to submit and be executed like the other populists?
>>2611185
If we go by laws, no.
If we go by precedent, yes.
Afterall, everything Caesar asked had already been asked by Pompey, and the same exact senate leadership gave it to him. Why should Caesar just accept a different treatment?
Every time I speak with a Marxist they say I don't understand Marx because they each have their own interpretation of his work. Why is this bad habit so prominent among Marxists? It should be clear by now that even among Marxists there are very vast differences in their interpretation of Marx. Seriously people need to stop claiming the right to their interpretation being the correct interpretation of Marx.
>>2611178
That's just it though. Marxism can be implemented in several ways, but still adhere to the core values of Marxism. Chances are you believing Leninism is the only true Marxism.
>>2611178
Its something that happens when you actually decide to read Marx yourself
>>2611178
>engaging with filthy Red bastards
>not even once
was he a fascist?
>>2611156
He was a right wing authoritarian who used suppression and extra judicial execution. I don't recall if he had a paramilitary though.
No. He lacked both the tendency towards futuristic ideals and the totalitarianism (authoritarianism is not the same thing, since there's still a clear line in the eyes of the state between private and public affairs; not everything is considered a state concern).
>>2611156
no it was authoritarian neoliberalism
Did Vikings exist before the 8th century? Were there any raids in the British isles from before that period. I am asking because I like this MB Warband mod called Brytenwalda, which is supposed to be historically accurate. It's set in 636, and there are some Danish raiders that look like the warrior i the picture in it, eventhough the Viking Age started like 150 years after that. So, is this mod bullshit, or did Danes raid Bongland before the Viking Age properly started?? I have searched myself but I can't find anything
Maybe there were some but not in large scale. The 'Viking Age' as is popular known only started after the Saxon Wars in which Charlemagne forbidded Christians from trading with pagans. That made the Scandinavians go apeshit and start attacking and looting the Christian world.
It really depends what you consider to be a 'Viking'. The Angles, Saxons and Jutes were Germanic people who came from an area around modern Denmark/Northern Germany, and they raided and settled in England. They're not really considered "Vikings" though because they preceded the 'Viking age' and by the time the actual Vikings got there they had supplanted Britain's former inhabitants
>>2611143
Viking is a job. Its something farmer Joe does during the summer.
What the danish did was invasion and conquest. They came with an army and a king, not with a small crew of thieves.
It was traditional war.
Which one is more shitty at fighting?
The one that lost to Ethiopia.
shoo shoo, anglo

France by far. Winning the 100 years war and being the most dominant power in Europe for centuries and just when they were declining, bam, they defeated all of Europe and became the most influential power. Don't fall for the Amerfat memes of surrender monkeys Also , Romans don't count since they're not modern Italians.
Give me a quick rundown on the American war of Independence 1775
Who were the "good guys"?
the colonies started the war
>>2611125
Then the French won the war
>>2611117
just pay your taxes
We've all seen this stupid chart. Did Christianity hinder the development of philosophy by limiting it to mostly discussing theological subjects?
If yes, then why didn't religion affect philosophy in the same way before then, given that past societies were also very interested in religion?
If no, then why do people study ancient and modern philosophy so much more than medieval philosophy, if those contributions are of equal importance?
>>2611093
How is scientific advancement even measured according to this chart? Without first establishing that it is essentially arbitrary and meaningless.
>>2611098
it's a bullshit chart that has been around for years and has become a meme in itself because of how bad it is
>>2611093
I thought it was pretty cut and dried that the Dark Ages were largely caused by the fall of the Roman empire. Religious extremism is almost always a reaction to some cataclysmic event not the cause. People don't study medieval philosophy as much because the contributions aren't of equal importance because they ARE excessively tainted by superstition but that doesn't mean Christianity as a religion (which existed long before the Dark Ages started, which is even indicate by that stupid meme graph) caused the Dark Ages
This podcast has given me a powerful Rome bone.
What are some other good documentaries and long-form material I can sink my teeth into? I'm looking for stuff that gives a lot of context. Not just generalizations
Listen to it again. There's probably a ton of information you didn't catch
>>2611050
You're probably right.
Is it considered a pretty comprehensive accounting of the history of Rome? I don't really have anything to compare it with
>>2611056
It's a very good entry level overview of Rome, but it's not really super in-depth to the point of actually making the listener a true Rome expert.
Why it is so common for self-identyfing Marxists to idolize certain leaders? Isn't the idolatry of individual leaders something that is against the most basic precepts of Marxism?
>>2611017
Hypocrisy is the central precept of Marxism
Most marxists aren't tankies.
I'd say it's against leftism in general. You can't promote horizontalism and deify people at the same time.
>>2611017
Marxism idolizes a godless utopia so why wouldn't it created idolatrous leaders?
Tell me about the french republican calendar /his/
why aren't we using it
>>2610962
It was heretical.
>>2610962
>why aren't we using it
The revolution failed.
We all know about Western and Eastern Martial arts but what about Indian, Middle Eastern, or African?
Post cool /his/ fighting styles.
Looks pretty awesome man.
>>2610941
What are some Western martial arts?
Can I get some links my dude?
>>2610967
When it comes unarmed: Pankration, boxing/pugilism, and Greco-Roman wrestling come to mind. Very practical skills.

We talk about how different the world would be if Germany didn't sink the RMS Lusitania, tried to make the Mexicans side with them, and overall persuade America join the Central Powers.
>no 4chan
>>2610755
It would've been enough for the Rumanians to join the Central Powers in 1916 and they would've won.
Rhodesian would have never died.
I, along with a couple of friends, am planning to buy acreage in Maine and then create a decent sized commune, type society of around 50 people. We're currently working out the governance of said community and how we will go about setting it up. There's just one dilemma. We can't come up with a name. We want something historically relevant, while simultaneously being capable of rolling off the tongue. We originally settled on New Delphi on account of the ancient greek city state, but have since decided that it sounded odd when spoken. With all that being said I would be much obliged if we could brainstorm names for this future community. If you guys so choose I would also be completely open to expanding the conversation to the broader topic of the historical significance that is tied with communes and how they operate as a whole.
