Genocides and mass crimes aside, was Stalin a shitty incompetent leader? He couldn't hold his own against a much smaller country Germany, despite 15 years of Prep time. It was only American lend lease that saved his ass in the end.
just from the way you worded this thread gives me the impression you're not ready to approach this question with any seriousness

He wasn't totally incompetent but I will say that he fucked up succession. When he died the Soviet Union was thrown into partial chaos and it planted the seeds for stuff like Leonid Brezhnev to take power and ruin soviet bureaucracy.

He turned a largely agrarian country into an industrialized, nuclear-armed superpower with some of the world's best scientists and researchers. Life expectancy, education, and general living conditions improved enormously. This all just came at a horrific human cost.

he had manlet rage and a severe napoleon complex

shit bait.
but when he heard hitler had invaded he issued no orders because he got blackout drunk for several days.
>lend lease saved ass
small arms and trucks are cute, but not game changing.
He was largely inept at defending and administrating his country, yes.
He was extremely skilled at acquiring and maintaining political power though.

Same as Hitler.

Hitler did a very good job until around Poland. He was salvageable until he won the battle of France.
After that, he got high off of his own success, and a whole lot of drugs

That's the best part imhoiykwimfamalam

>400,000 trucks
>compared to industrial mobilization
I think one event is vastly more important and saved more ass.

It wasn't just him it was the whole Wehrmacht.
They literally went in expecting to get smashed by the much larger and better equipped French army. They put all their chips on one risky gamble which paid of big time because French generals were stupid and didn't see it coming.
After that they literally believed they were invincible that's why they didn't take extra precautions in Russia and gave their units objectives that they couldn't accomplish. Like Case Blue somehow imagining an underequipped army could somehow capture and hold all of southern Russia and they split their forces into multiple different objectives rather than focusing on one at a time.
