/pol/itics aside, I like to think the Greeks/ Romans/ Spaniards stood out, played their parts, and then just kinda faded in with the rest of us. They passed the torch on, so to speak. If you are curious about specifics, most historic texts cite the population of Rome specifically going down as other cities and places became more important to the ancient/ medieval world (Byzantium, Britain, France, Germany, etc). Italy became less important, with the exceptions being Venice and Genoa and maybe a few others. Less importance usually equals less people.

There's no need to stretch anything, Soviets were somewhat OK with Jews only through Lenin's rule. Stalin had issues with Jews both on personal level (his kids married Jews and he didn't like it), political level (Trotski, Jagoda, Jezhov...) and geopolitical level, once Israel decided to join the West side. Soviets also suppressed awareness of Holocaust and claimed Jews to be rootless cosmopolitans disloyal to socialist cause.

Memes aside anon, you could probably argue secularly that certain individuals are more qualified to lead society than others are. For instance, most kings are superior in that they were more well-educated or forward-thinking than other individuals. Inbreeding and degeneracy set aside, most kings were set up to be more well-educated than the general populace and thus entrusted to make certain laws rather than letting the people vote on it. While this may not have worked in practice, theoretically it'd be a secular justification.

Looking at individuals like Caesar or Bonaparte or even within Republican societies, like Lincoln (inb4 confederates), Roosevelt (the first one of course), and Washington proving themselves to be superior individuals prior to taking office.
