Ask your friend or fucking use grub like every other sane person.
>>57470860
As your friend anon, don't use syslinux.
>>57470860
>syslinux instead of grub
He's not your friend
Anyone used one of these portable monitors that you connect with usb (no power lead)? Need an ultra low power monitor for campervan
>>57470810
Bumping because I'm interested
>>57470810
alternatively does anyone know of an extremely low power monitor that will use less than 10w?
>>57470891
Get those laptop screens
+
LVDS inverter + controlboard with HDMI/DVI output
=
VOILA low powered display
You can get the lvds inverter/controlboard for about $15 on ebay. Plus $30-50 for cheap laptop screen (or you can get lucky and find cheaper)
Bought my rx480 and noticed this. Can i change the firmware to unlock the rest of the 4gb?
Also. Freesync. Does it worth it? Im about to buy a monitor with it to pair up with my rx480.
>>57470795
Check out Gamer's Nexus' video about unlocking the rest of the VRAM.
IIRC you could but I'm not sure if they fixed it already.
I thought only the reference models were firmware locked
You're gonna have to physically count the RAM modules to check that it has 4GB.
Hey /g/
What's a good alternative for this dinosaur? I need something that can play .mkv, .flv, .avi, and practically anything I can throw at it that is within reason? I'm on a new build and don't want to bog it down with VLC like on my previous PC.
OS?

Whatcha workin' on, /g/?
>>57470763
Creating a program that analyzes a database and recreates the schema with no constraints on another SQL Server.
So far it's working with MySQL and other SQL Servers.
Will add support for basic JSON-based APIs and other relational databases soon.
Should be useful for data staging when building the data warehouse and other integrations.
Haven't coded anything since I got my diploma and have no ideas or inspiration. I feel like I need to get into it and work towards freelance because even though I've been flinging resume's for months I've gotten nothing but a brief interview at a pet-food canning place
Which I lost out on to someone younger
. What do?
>>57470892
Hello, newfriend.
You cannot spoiler on /g/.
I also have a strong hatred for anyone who uses the phrase "What do?".
In any case, you want to start with the most job-saturated languages and learn them enough so that you can actually create small programs that do things.
Pick either Java or C#. Alternatively, the next bracket of open jobs is about the same between C, C++, and Python.
It would also help to learn Javascript, and you should understand basic SQL.
If you can create a small application from start to finish that talks to a database or API, massages that data to show good info, and displays that information on a GUI of some sort, you're definitely hireable.

What does /g/ think about tech bubble?
Well if it's only one site that fails, I'm happy for it to be Twitter.
Bumping for interest. I don't think the tech industry as a whole is a bubble but the current rate of progress simply isn't sustainable. I don't necessarily think a crash is coming, but there will be fallout in 5-10 years.
Hypothetically however I could forsee an economic crash not entirely because ofbthe tech bubble but spurred by it. China for example has a very delicate growth economy right now that is unsustainable, a crash of the tech industry could subsequently cause the crash of the Chinese market which would have Absolutely catastrophic effects across world economy
Nah, as for the current tech 'bubble' even if it's just a silly app, it's still has lot more substance than the dotcom boom era businesses. For example, in 1999, yahoo bought broadcast.com with 5.7billion, what did they get? A domain name. 5.7 billion dollar domain name.
broadcast.com

How are new thinkpads not aesthetic?
>Apple appoints Forstall as a ceo instead of Cook
>Apple keeps innovating instead of sitting in a money couch
>Forstall tells Ive to GTFO and Apple begins a new era of innovative designs instead of ultra-think sleek aluminum molds shit that's being done and copied by everyone since 2008
>Apple OSes don't suffer from bad UI decisions like they do now and are launched in a 2-year cicle to improve stability
>Sensible pricing since they would be determined to make great products, not great profits
>Mac lineup would get yearly releases instead of being slowly displaced trying to sell iPad pros
>No pandering to SJW

U wot
Ok /g/, dunno how to start this but here goes.
I own a PC shop, and need to distribute arch Linux to some clients for home use and i basically need something with a task managing dock (like Mac) and a modern UI. I've tried many distros but keep coming across design problems that deter me from each one. Here are my past experiences:
>AntergOS (gnome)
Great distro but inconsistent application icons, alongside a broken numix-circle theme package (defaults to gnome icons)
>Manjaro (Deepin)
Version 16.06 was perfect, but any updates through pamac update the deepin desktop environment to the latest one which makes ear-rape level sounds on startup (no matter what volume), and fade animations of windows are gone, plus the clock will not switch from 24H to 12H, at all (they deliberately did this for the latest version). Telling my clients not to update this distros packages defeats the purpose of rolling release.
>Manjaro (Gnome)
Perfect in the works, but looks ugly as shit by default (yes you can change it by theming, but when someone makes a new user account, it will look ugly again)
>ApricityOS (Gnome)
Is literally perfect in the looks department (numix-circle/arc-theme hybrid), but breaks upon installing NVIDIA drivers, and has errors like "can not invoke external downloaded whilst doing a pamac upgrade. Also, takes about 2 minutes to boot up on a 7200RPM HDD, because it does start jobs on dhcpcd when the OS uses fucking network-manager.
Is there not one arch Linux distro that looks good by default for all new user accounts, is consistent in its icons and stable when doing mundane tasks such as booting and updating packages?
>inb4 hurr durr use Debian
Fuck off
Any help is appreciated
Btw I tried standard deepin (Debian) but it's loaded full of illegal or grey-area software (hacked crossover Linux licence, music piracy in music player)
What the fuck? Why do you need arch for this? If these people are normies give them macs
>>57470496
Ok well, if I sold my computers with Mac OS X, I'd get fucked in the ass by Apple. Plus I want to promote open source software but I'm just tryna look for the perfect distro.
Why not ElementaryOS? It's not Arch, but it fits the other two requirements.
