Why todays processors uses 0s and 1s instead of 2, 3, 4 etc... ? I know it's possible but why not?
On/off is far easier to work with.

I'd like to get my SO an e-reader for Christmas. Originally I was just thinking one of the Kindles as I think they are easy on the eyes, but as she's a Walking Dead fan, I thought it'd be nice to buy her the entire series of comics as well, which I think would look better in color. Are the Amazon Fires as easy to read on or should I just go full tablet and grab a Galaxy Tab or iPad? Seems if I go color, I kind negate what makes an e-reader easy to read, plus battery life...
>>57461031
Nigger, The Walking Dead is black and white.
>>57461092
I've never actually seen one of the comics, if that's the case, then this decision just became incredibly easy.

>iPad
Found your problem.
Nearly a decade and a half of saving and downloading, backing up and after deleting all the pointless things I don't care about I have barely anything left.
WHAT THE FUCKING HELL WAS THE POINT IN THE LAST 14 YEARS?
All the time wasted staring at a progress bar on a backup, all the money wasted in hard drives!
Is this really all it was for?
Care to fill us in on what happened, OP?
>>57460264
I went through every single file, one by one, and only kept it if it triggered an emotional reaction no matter how small that reaction was. I did have a pseudo-reaction though, in that I was saddened by how little I cared about bands I loved in school.
Now I've got an entire pile of hard drives and various storage media that's surplus to any requirement.

I don't know OP, his VP believes you can electrocute gay people until they become straight and his most likely appointee to education secretary is vehemently anti-choice and would like to see Roe vs. Wade overturned, dislikes the Common Core, does not believe in evolution, and believes free college tuition would be "the destruction of the nation."
How do you think this will impact net neutrality in our country?

Is this the best Distro created so far?
It's Solus BTW. Installed it 2 nights ago and I'm really loving it so far. Huge step up from Mint and Fedora.
install macOS
>>57452210
I put that on my laptop the other night too.
It's nice, but it has a severe lack of software available for it now.
Give it a year or so for it to catch up and it might just be a contender among the mainstream distros.
Right now I'm sticking with arch. The AUR is far too useful not to use it.
Plus you can install the desktop environment that Solus on arch anyways. There are instructions on their website.
>>57452259
What software was missing for you?
It has everything I need/want so far, but I guess what works for me won't work for everyone else...
So, I've tried all the memes -- standing desk, ergonomic chair, recliner, bed PC, treadmill desk, exercise ball chair, etc and none of them work. Leaning back is really ackward to control KBM with and makes screen viewing distance weird plus it winds up being not that comfy anyway. I could go on about the myriad of issues with each setup but not right now.
I used to just slouch forward when I had a cheapo office chair. The reason we do this is because it takes tension off the back muscles, allowing them to contract and this feels good. Problem is they say it bends your spine which is bad for your lower back. And eventually becomes painful.
So, solution: Why doesn't anyone make a lean/slouch FORWARD chair? So that your weight is supported by your chest/stomach rather than your back, thus taking the strain off your back? Kinda like a chair turned backward but the back shaped like a little adjustable loft for the front of your body and the arm rests positioned accordingly. Like laying on your stomach but more upright and convenient.
because having shit push on you around your solar plexus is the most uncomfortable shit in the world
>>57451529
you can adjust the angle so you're only leaning forward a little bit and some of the weight can be distributed to your arms too
This >>57451529
They tried but most people hated it after a while and it puts a great strain on the knees too. Plus no professional would ever want to be seen looking like a tard.

Hey /wt/, blue collar poorfag here. Got pic related, is there any way to replace the band with something a little less cheap? Would a Nato strap fit this or would it not fit the pins?
>>57449871
Depends on length of pins. Most Casios have narrow bands, that's mostly digitals, but many analogs too.
Pull the band on the sides of the lugs until you can see the springbar, and measure the width. If it's above 18mm, no issue.

Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.
Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price, or improve specs or build quality.

If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™
Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

Are there any search engines that take an input that isn't a simple string?
I can't find a way to specify something like "a macro program that gives input to a background window".
>>57469753
>that gives input to a background window
what
>>57469753
You want to search for "a program that gives input to a background window".
But you do not want to do any research whatsoever and instead expect the search engine to know what you want, instead of forming a simple english sentence.
got it.
Google image search. You upload an image instead of "a simple string". :^)

Manufacturing employment goes down by way more than tech employment goes up (left chart)
those small number of tech workers produce almost as much output as the still much larger number of manufacturing workers (right chart)
and presumably that article will mention something about how the tech industry, like every other sector, neither needs nor wants the unskilled workers that manufacturing has been laying off.
