got a '09 ctd mac mini running el capitan currently, thinking of installing debian on it.
Is it worth it or should I just stick with OSX?
PLEASE! HELP!
I spent 2 hrs trying to figure this out! !!
My DE and terminal is somehow gone but file manager and everything else works.
Can GNU/Linux get anymore comfy as a DE?
- Free as in freedom
- Looks sleek
- Doesn't use a lot of RAM (for those who do care in almost 2017)
- Modern
- Comfy
- All settings are in the settings manager and I don't have to mess with the internal files to rig something up

OP here, sure, why not?
I mainly meant it for KDE circlejerking but whatever.
Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.
Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

We have to translate a play to virtual reality utilizing the https://aframe.io/ framework.
It's going good since I don't have to do any of the modeling and only the coding part.

Why do people hate macs so much? Theyre not as overpriced as you all say.
Macs are overpriced for sure but the OS is so much better. I'm fine with paying $700 for similar specs when the build quality and battery life are better than most other laptops on the market. $700 really isn't much for something you'll be using every day for years. 8 hours+ battery life during light programming and web browsing is something i couldn't live without.
When windows improves there OS and a company can make a trackpad as good as Apple does then ill switch back. Also my 2015 retina MBP cost me around $1500 is there really any sub 1k laptop that can compare? Not just spec wise cause this isn't a desktop PC. Build Quality and battery life justify higher prices.
>>58128693
You're fine with paying for an OS that can't merge files
>>58128693
>Theyre not as overpriced as you all say.
but they are, that is exactly why they are hated here
you can't just pick and choose which parts of reality you want to accept
MacBooks are some of the best laptops ever made
They're horrible for being the only machine to own, though
Hi /g/
Here at my workplace I have two very old computers I can find literally nothing about. Does any of you guys know, what these are?
>>58126602
I don't know, but I want one of those keyboards. What connector do they use?
If they are gonna throw them out some time, make sure you get them (both the units and the keyboards). They could be valuable to the retro pc community.
>>58126729
Wait a moment, Ill get some more pictures
I doubt either of them are computers.

I'm an avid GNU/Linux (Arch & Void) user. What are the benefits of switching to BSD?
>>58125627
Thinking of trying out TrueOS, what used to be PC-BSD. Any reasons I shouldn't?
I'm an Ubuntu user normally so don't want to have to fight my OS. Just want a fairly easy, get it running and not have to worry about fighting to get things working
Lets talk music players.
Ive been looking for a device to transport around 100gigs of music and allow for immediate and unassisted playback. Is there something like the ipod classic but with an ssd? I dont want to use my phone.
get an iphone and fuck off
>>58119617
>iTunes bullshit
>iOS takes up like 40% of the space, invariably for some reason
>no expandable storage, so you're stuck getting higher end models if you want more space
>just for music, it's expensive as fuck
>as multimedia consumption devices, Androids are better anyway
The iPod classic is fine for music though, imo.
>>58119577
You could get the Fiio X1/3/5. They look like they do what you want them to. They have an SD slot, up to 128 gigs, and I think the X5 has two of these.
I've been wanting to get one, but from the reviews I've seen, the UI looks like it's some real nigger shit and it's kinda been putting me off.
