Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

In any search engine, you can remove words from results.
For example, I did this-

I need a mobo with shitloads of regular pci slots
I accidentally got shipped 10 pci sata cards and amazon said i could keep them
So im thinking massive fuckton of storage build, as each card has 4 sata connectors

Also need a psu with lots of sata power connectors

And a case with like 10-20 3.5" possible mounts/bays, or room to shove alot of modular racks inside it

Total build doesnt have to be fast, isnt gonna be more than just a nas, just want a ton of space possible

I just threw together a small build to hold off until Zen comes out. At some point I'll add a GPU in Crossfire with the APU. Spent $170, how'd I do? I've already got 4GB RAM for it. I know that's low, but I'll be getting 32GB DDR4 when Zen comes around.

I'm still whittling away at this until I'm confident I haven't over or under built it, and I'm looking for any advice you guys have to offer.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VLYjRG

Building this thing for gaming. Assume an unlimited budget, but I am holding off in some areas purely because 4K doesn't seem worth it to me yet, and if I do make the jump, the 1080 can still do it. That's why there's only a 1080p monitor for now. I'll swap it out later when I'm more convinced by 4K.

What I really want to know is.
Does anyone have experience with the Phantom? The website claims that without a fan, it has more room for the CPU cooler, but I need to know if that fan is easily removable or if I'm somehow supposed to order it without it, because at present, my cooler is too large to fit while that fan is in place.

Is cooler and motherboard too much or too little? RAM and HDD's are easy for me to compare by the numbers, but I don't know much about CPU heat problems or mobos.

And yes I'll look into an SSD later. Maybe. But I want this thing functioning first.

Also related as I haven't dipped into researching them yet but wouldn't mind having a place to start. What would you say is the best M&K?

First time building one of these. I'm sure there are mistakes.
>>
>>58119366
Lol didn't knew. My last AMD was a Phenom II i believe, since Q6600 i'm with Intel.
>>
Whats the build order again? Using a stock cooler.

Is it cpu fan case then whatever?

>same deal with processors
whats my best plan in this situation? all i do is play dota and jack off all day
>>
>>58119369
Decent start but still has a lot room for improvement.
You could swap the UD5 for a UD3 if you don't need all it's features. Your HDD is overpriced for a Seagate. Either drop down to a Toshiba P300 or WD Black or get a HGST for the price.
MSI Armor is generally worse than other cards, get a PNY as budget option or if it doesn't mattr get a Asus Strix.
No experience with the Phantom, but you know the are cheaper and better cases?
Also, buy a used monitor if it's just temporary.

So with the mobo plate, mine has these sort of bent things, it seems kinda bs just how bent they are
>>
>>58119421
What's wrong with the Seagate? I don't know much about brands and what not. But it seems like this Black will only save me $10ish dollars, and has a few noise complaints. Granted, the Seagate has few reviews so I can't judge noise on it.

Seems like the only thing the UD3 drops is the two SATA 6's. Express is faster, right? Are express ports and 6 ports compatible? Assuming you don't talk me out of it, my current HDD has a 6 port.

Went ahead and threw the STRIX on. Those are some goddamned glowing review.

The biggest thing I'm worried about with the case is know all this shit will fit in it. (No really. I'm new as shit at this. If there's an easy way to know, please tell my ignorant ass.)
>>
>>58119392
You're looking in the wrong places of you can only find min/max shit.

Budget? Here's a cheapo $550 to support your dota and a little more as an example.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KV7tLD
>>
>>58119513
That's on pretty much every I/O shield. They can make installation annoying if your case standoff doesn't have a mounting post. Just bend them back, it'll give no issue.

I play shitty blizzard games, and RTS with millions of little things running around doing shit.

I also have my TV hooked up as a second monitor just because.

My current computer is probably 10 years old. I want to play on max graphics without lag and have 1000's of tabs opened up in firefox while I do it.

My budget isn't limited but I don't want to spend too awfuly much if I don't need to.

>what's wrong with Seagate
See Blackblaze. Anyways, you HDD is not bad, but either you get a good standard HDD like a Toshiba P300 or a high-end one like the HGST 7K6000.

>noise compliants
If noise is an issue then get a silent case and probably a mounting kit for the HDD, too.

>SATA
SATA 6G and M.2 is all you need. Your SATA 6G HDD won't be faster if plugged in into a different interface.

>STRIX / ASUS
Very high quality parts. They currently have a cash back special, so mobo + GPU should be Asus right now.

>i don't know if my shit will fit into the case
Easy. Check the manufactuers websites and compare HSF RAM clearance, height of your RAM and max supported HSF heigth of your case.

Again, money doesn't matter at all or do you want to save or good value parts?

are there other ways to get usb 3.0 ports on my old computer than this card? Even just one port would be good enough.
>>
>>58119713
Assuming I get the UD3, it only has Express. Is 6 compatible with Express is all I really need to know. Also how about this?
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/zFGj4D/hitachi-internal-hard-drive-0f23019

I want the best parts I can find if they aren't ridiculously priced by hundreds of dollars above perfectly acceptable parts. I can afford to put pretty much anything in this rig. I'm just trying to balance my desire for the best thing I can build with my conservative spending habits.
>>
>>58119878
You realise the UD3 has 6x SATA 6?
The HDD is fine.
Take this advice: you can get either a very good build with good parts and still save, or go full good goy mode and get top parts only.
Personally i'd get good value higher quality parts. 99% of the users won't need the super high-end parts anyways.
How long do you plan on keeping the build? If it's for like 3 years only, don'r overspend.

So I'm looking at this website

http://www.logicalincrements.com/

and as of now I'm thinking of exceptional. My max res right now is 1920 x 1200 and I probably won't get a new one.

The exceptional column seems the best for me because I don't want to upgrade this shit again for another 10 years but paying double for the Titan X seems like overkill.

Or would I already be overkilling with my needs? How long could I expect my computer to be good for if I build from that section?

/g/ents, I have a problem and need to decide what to do NOW

tl;dr: Keep GTX 1060 or upgrade to 1070, 1440p occasional gaming, mostly just video editing, want to avoid upgrades for next 4 years.

In 3 hours the mailman will be here, until then I need to decide if I keep the GTX 1060 or send it back, no other chance before I go on vacation, then it's too late.

I paid roughly $260 for the ASUS STRIX OC, so pretty good deal.
For $150 I could upgrade to GTX 1070.

Everywhere I look people say "bro just get the 1070 or you'll have to upgrade in 2 years, pay it now or later".

I barely play new AAA titles, if anything GTA 5 on 1440p.

I just want a GPU that will hold up for the next 4-5 years. I do a lot of 1080p video editing and wouldn't mind if I can't play triple-A games on max settings.

I need a heatsink like the STRIX with fan turnoff function. So upgrading would probably be straight to a non-OC version of the 1070.
>>
>>58120020
Look at the manufacturers website, never rely on PCP only.
What the fuck do you need SLI for? SLI is a HUGE meme. Selling your old GPU for a new iteration is better. I'd understand if you do CAD or something similar, but definitely not for games.
Idk about bottlenecking in thag range, but i doubt it.
>>
Ok with the 12vatx 4 pin thing on my mobo, my psu (non modular) has 2 of them, but i think theyre gpu pins or something? Im not installing a gpu though, so what do i need to do with the 12v pin?

>>
>>58120066
>i want to avoid upgrades for the next 4years

>>
>>58120071
>Can't rely on PCP
Well this shit just got a little more complicated.

So let me ask this.
As far as my mobo goes, Z170 is the best chipset I can get for my CPU, I assume.

After that, I need to ensure that it has at least 2 DDR4 slots, although most are going to come with 4. I need to ensure the thing is LGA1151. I need to ensure its ATX. I need to ensure that is has at least 1 SATA 6gbps, though its looking pretty clear they pretty much all come with more. What else do I need to make sure this thing includes. Presumably a PSU connection?

I'm sorry if this is getting a little too aggravating. Learning as fast as I can but its always helpful to have another human confirm what I'm doing.
>>
>>58120066
send it back and get an 1070.
>>
>>58120168
Correction, Z170 is the only chipset that makes sense for a 6700K.
>PSU connection
You just went full retard, m8.
Have you ever touched any computer parts before? If not, start watching guides right now. Because your questions tell me you're going to fuck up your parts if you don't learn the how-to's.

PCPs compatibility check is fine, few details may be off, though. So don't worry, just double check it.
>>

You chose a B chipset motherboard.
If you aren't going for overclocking just grab a i5-6500 and an H170 chipset motherboard
If you do want to overclock eventually (might help give your system a little boost when it's getting old) grab the i5-6600k and a Z170 chipset motherboard.

>>
>>58120522
Thats fine, just make sure you grab good power supply.
It's worth spending 70$+ on a PSU if it ensures it won't fry your system.

Are M.2 SSDs a meme or a decent improvement over 2.5' SSDs?
>>
>>58123258
or you know, buy a 6600k and be able to OC.

Why the fuck would you recommend a xeon? Unless he needs ECC RAM it's just a waste of money and throwing it in a consumer board defeats the ECC RAM anyway.

The only thing the xeon gives you that the 6600k doesnt is 8 thread instead of 4 threads. But the xeon is stuck at 3.4GHz, the 6600k can hit 4.2GHz+ per core which will give much better gaming performance since most games dont use more than 4 threads so the 8 threads of the xeon are wasted and the slower clock speed ends up fucking you.
>>
>>58123270
depends what you do.

And M.2 is just a connector, the actual difference is SATA or NVMe.

NVMe SSDs are much quicker than SATA drives, but unless you do something that can use the extra speed it's just gonna sit unused.
>>
>>58123299
Yeah it's a NVMe one. Was hoping to put my OS and important programs on it (After Effects, Maya etc.) to try and get a performance boost, or would it still be bottlenecked if I had the project files on a SATA HDD?
>>
Is a 1080 overkill for a 1440p?
>>
>>58123329
>if I had the project files on a SATA HDD?
yup

and unless you're hitting a bottleneck with your current storage setup, you wont notice any improvement.

If you launch a program, and it takes 3-5 seconds to launch, it's not as if the NVMe drive will make that suddenly only take 0.5 seconds, it will take 2-4 seconds now instead of 3-5.

Further, for actual booting into the OS, the NVMe drive is a bit slower than a SATA SSD because the PCIe initialization process during POST takes longer and so it ends up taking an extra ~10-20 seconds to boot into windows compared to a fast SATA SSD.

NVMe drives are fantastic for niche use where you NEED 500-1TB of storage space that can be accessed at over 1000MB/s but outside of these niche scenarios they're just overpriced SSDs.
>>
>>58123355
>but outside of these niche scenarios they're just overpriced SSDs.
Ah okay, gotcha. It was only £2 more than the regular SSD included so I'm okay with it
>>
>>58123425
i mean, I own one and it only really gets used maybe two times a month, so I'm in that boat too, it was only ~20-30 more than a normal SSD at the time.
>>
>>58123180
>Do mitx and to an extent matx builds overheat?
Depends on the case and components, naturally. But mITX and to some extent mATX usually have worse fan options and cooler clearances which means they'll run hotter than roomier cases fully decked out. But as long as you don't go for shoebox-sized cases or other unusual ones you shouldn't have too many heat issues.

>i cant see why most people with a single gpu dont go mitx?
People think that they might need the extra PCIe slots some day.

>>58123130
Any game will run like trash if you crank MSAA or SSAA to stupid levels. Just drop the most intensive options out and framerate will easily increase by 20.

>>58123353
60hz? Yes. 144hz? Depends. If you are sensitive to framerate drops or want to crank settings to max then you'll need 1080. Otherwise a 1070 is a better purhase.

If you need faster RAM you should have no concerns about overclocking the memory controller.

There will likely not be a controller that works with 3200MHz at stock, at least not any time soon. There is simply no need for the average consumer, and the ones who do need it are perfectly capable to OC it themselves.

Seriously though, you'd be better off buying a 2nd computer for streaming and recording.

One computer for running your games, then another computer for recording/streaming.

That way if your game hits an intense moment, you wont see any frame drops on your recording/stream.
>>

Wat. If you do anything that benefits from 8 threads, the e3 xeon is very good value of money, even if it is clocked fairly conservatively. Of course, recommending it for a pure gaming build is kind of stupid, but so is saying to never get a xeon unless you need ECC RAM.

how so? Almost every major twitch streamer uses multiple computers to stream.

If you want to record, AND stream, AND play a game at the same time, a 6700k simply wont cut it, and even a 6950x with 10 cores probably wouldn't cut it simply because your main OS is trying to do ALL of this at the same time.

The issue isn't the hardware anymore, the issue becomes windows trying to do too many things at once and failing.

You want multiple computers to avoid windows running into itself.
>>
>>58124147
intel has an overclocking WARRANTY, you pay them $15 and if you break your CPU by overclocking they replace the CPU for free.

Just dont be retarded and push it up to stupid high levels because then you might break the motherboard, which ISN'T covered under the warranty.

if you stick to a safe OC though, there is no chance of that happening.

Even with everything a stock settings, shit happens sometimes (power surge, you knocked over your drink, etc) your computer can die for any number of reasons, overclocking is not likely one of them.

I've been having issues with the ethernet adapter on my brand new Asus Maximus VIII Ranger motherboard.

Under linux actual download speeds were like 4kbps when 1000mbps was autonegotiated. If I forced a 100mbps link speeds went up to normal.

All my home network infrastructure is gigabit capable (ASUS router and Netgear PRO switch).

I installed windows this morning and speeds were all over the place, even after installing the latest intel drivers. I ran out of time to fuck with it, but is this just a stupid configuration issue I need to figure out or is there a possibility I have some kind of weird hardware issue?
>>
>>58125482
Not him, but you can have bottlenecks elsewhere. Additionally having hyperthreading enabled or disabled will not allow you to casually notice a difference when you open Firefox or the file explorer.
>>
>>58125482
I'm saying that if you have a workload that can benefit from more than 4 cores, then a 4-core CPU with SMT enabled will perform better than one without SMT, regardless of whether the program "supports" hyperthreading or not. It's not a question of the program supporting SMT, it's a question of the program supporting multithreading in general.

>>
>>58125626
>Am I expecting a doubled increase in performance?
Intel's version of SMT is about 30% performance improvement under ideal conditions. In games, you're almost certainly not going to get nearly that much, even if you WEREN'T limited by a weak GPU.
>>

>>

Yes, if you see absolutely no improvement at minimum settings there's either something else limiting your performance or something weird is going on.

But you're saying hyperthreading should give a boost in everything so I should leave it on? I know at least one game doesn't like having it on and crashes

>>
>>58125626
No, not double. Some engines don't see a benefit. Witcher for instance is light on the CPU, Civ6 isn't a benchmark game. But if you were streaming, the HT would really help.

>>58125658
>the whole reason I'm building a computer is Zen.
And? Can't use Zen on FM2, which is what your APU socket. You'll have to build all new, can't even reuse the DDR3 RAM, and buying a low power gfx card is also a waste of money from a price / perf standpoint. You're wasting your money

Just about. Although if you play older games, a lot of them are going to see little to no benefit going from 2 cores to 2 cores with HT.
>But there's no other software settings to worry about? Just flip it on in bios and get 30% better CPU?
That's the theory. In practice, hell if I know. Could be something weird going on, like boost clocks not going as high with HT enabled or shit.

>>58125954
Your point being?
>>
>>58125930
Yeah I'm not that guy that you were replying to but it's pretty crazy to make an APU build for playing games even if it's just "for the meantime" when you could have just put that $170 towards something you'll actually use in the future, like a nice mobo/Zen CPU/GPU. Unless you have a sibling/parent/grandparent that needs a facebook/word processor machine you can give it to, it's a total waste.

APUs in general are a complete failure of an idea. I've said that for years now. I mean, the amount of mental gymnastics that need to be done to justify an APU build is astounding. Maybe Zen based APUs will have a 1-2 year window of being powerful enough to be relevant.

Putting together a workstation for my dad. He doesn't run any programs that are particularly intense on their own, but he keeps a shitload of programs and tabs open at once and wants something that he won't have to replace for a long time. How does it look?

He doesn't need it before Christmas. Are the post-Christmas deals worth it these days?
H170 or Z170 chipset is a must, as he wants a RAID1 setup later down the line for backing up pictures.
DisplayPort is a must because his monitor only supports the full resolution over DisplayPort.
He doesn't play video games but I might give him my graphics card when I replace it.
PSU is definitely overkill but I was having a hard time finding a cheaper one that is still modular/semi-modular. I don't want there to be a rat's nest when I inevitably have to replace stuff for him.

Depends on your budget and how important your data is. You could buy a 16-hot-swappable-bays 4U chassis for $230 or buy a full-tower case with over 7 5.25" bays and go ham with some of these.

You'll also need to know which file system you want to use, because RAID isn't the only mutli-drive format out there. If you want hardware RAID, then you'll need to spend at least $600 on a RAID card with its own memory/cache and battery back-up in case of power failures to prevent loss of data, corruption, or even a loss of an entire array. You could also do software RAID and use cheaper HBA cards. There are SATA and SAS RAID/HBA cards, with SATA being cheaper (and generally less reliable due to their makers cheaping out on parts) and SAS being capable of multiple simultaneous requests going on at the same time (and being at least $150 more expensive than SATA).

You also have to debate whether or not your data with worth protecting with ECC RAM and how you want to back up the files in your NAS to prevent a catastrophic loss of data in the event of power outages or malware.
And then there is the eternal debate over whether to go 10Gbps or stay with 1Gbps and use LACP. I'll answer wait until 802.3bz capable NICs are available and cheap.
>>
>>58127900
Then stick with the 6500 and depending on how much he wants to spend and what the game benchmark say with either the 1060 6G or RX470 and you'll have a decent gaymen machine.

i'm assuming i'll spend near 4k when everything is set and done, including the drives.
I'm using it for plex and using private trackers to auto-load the things I wanna DL.
10x6tb usable so near 60tb or 56tb whatever "real" value is with 2 drives backing it up and replacing the dead ones and all that.
It'll always be on and that's about it as far as the uses of it.
I'm not too well versed in the terminology you used besides knowing RAID is multi-drive stuff and that SATA is a connection type that I use for my computer.
The data isn't all that important because I can recover it, but I'd just want something reliable and having the ability to recover drives that die and power outages not destroying it.
I don't think I have to deal with malware because I won't really share it with shady places or use stupid websites.

Small, portable, somewhat silent, 2x 120mm fans can be added and should serve him fine.

Thinking of getting the NZXT Source 340 case. I have a question about dust filters. Does it have any and if not I never realyl bought them so what kind of dust filter should I even look for if I wanted to add one and are they hard to install?

I'm making a small "gaming" computer for my son.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wCtqr7

this just need to run roblocks, and minecraft essentially (he's 5) and any games that fall into those categories

the problem is, I have absolutely no idea what resources these games use. I figure they're pretty low requirements but I was wondering if this kind of system would work, or would I need to beef it up a little bit?
>>
>>58129228
Get a G4400 and a H110 motherboard.
GTX 750Ti got replaced by GTX 1050.
A PSU and a cheap case.
>>
>>58129228
Eh, my take on it.
I'll probably get ripped on it, but having run those two games on an old Q8200 with 8 GB of Ram and a 9800 GT, I can tell you that's more like the minimum, especially with roblox.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/68HdGf

Also, bit more pricey, but a LOT of room for upgrading(Intel 7th Gen CPU, last you some years, etc, etc.)

Alternatively, you can wait for Ryzen or go with this APU setup(GPU and CPU in one, not advised, I'd still wait for zen).

Guys if I want my desktop to connect to internet by wifi rather than cable, do I need some special kind of mobo or other thingie or is it a normal feature nowadays?
>>
>>58129228
>I'm making a small "gaming" computer for my son.
This classifies as child abuse. Do what >>58129325 and >>58129347 suggested. Minimum is G4400 + H110 + RX460.
>>
>>58129371
Some motherboards come with internal wifi adaptors.

And then there's standalones.

TPI PCIe slot wifi adapter works, plug into a small PCIe slot, then run it.
There's also USB adapters as well.

But you're talking to an ethernetfag, I can't stand wifi after going ethernet. I was well known lagger on a small game I played, I beat one of the best players in a firefight because i was skipping all over the goddamn place.

I don't lag, and I sure as hell won't go back to wifi.

But that doesn't solve the fact that ketchup and mustard are running rampant in my A E S T H E T I C build
>>
>>58129377
what if I just switch the board and cpu then change the 750 for a 1050 ti?

also, 8gigs? I didn't think that shitty game would use that much!
>>
>>58129428
>>58129428
Recent games do but we are talking about $60 games not simple games.

4GB will be more than enough for him.
>>
>>58129428
One big problem of your build is the case+PSU.

250W is a bad idea, you should be looking for a 400-450W PSU.

Those games are simple enough that the built in graphics are enough for it, no need for a graphic card.
>>
>>58129449
oh, ok

yeah, he aint playing those, at least not yet.

I'm trying to teach him how to do basic programming and computer maintenance. starting with how not to break a computer, so I'm not planning on this thing surviving more than a year or two, if that. It doesn't need to be future proof. just small enough that he can carry it around and cheap enough to not hurt the wallet when either he or his sister inevitably kills it.
>>
>>58129520
Anon your child is 5, he shouldn't be doing computer maintenance other than learning how use it.

Dont get him a graphic card, just a simple computer for now, specially if its his first one.
>>
>>58129520
girls should be illegal. but since they're not, they're called PC's not Periods so girls shouldn't be interested
>>
>>58129520
Get him a simple computer and buy him Minecraft

>inb4 "minecraft is shiit xddd"
it's made for little kids what did you expect?
>>
>>58129544
It's mainly blowing dust out with a can and not dumping soda on it that he needs to do. he's not taking it apart. but I think your'e right on the graphics card. It was more of a mindless addition. a minor step up from the integrated graphics really.

>>58129546

he loves minecraft and fnaf
>>
>>58129520

>>
>>58129428
As i said, G4400 + H110 is the absolute minimum. As GPU get either a GTX 1050/ti or RX460.
>also, 8gigs?
Yes. 4GB Windows systems are obsolete. Basically get him something like this: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZcgkHN
This has decent performance, upgradebility and reuseability. $359 is totally ok for this.

>>58129644

I've spent quite a long time reading guides, forum posts, and videos, but I just can't get an aswer to this simple question: How does turbo boost work when you overclock on skylake? It's pretty weird for a platform this popular, all you find is speculation upon speculation, no one actually knows what they're talking about.

Does anyone here know, or know of a good guide that goes over this in detail?
>>
>>58129644
Just get him a G4400 and a H110.
4GB, 8GB would be overkill for what is he doing.
A 430W PSU (EVGA 430) and a mATX case.

He doesnt need a graphics card if all he is going to play is minecraft, get him one later on if he wants to play something intense.
>>
>>58129664
Its simple if there is nothing intensive going on the CPU will work at a lower clock for efficiency reasons.

If its under heavy load it will increase it back.

What should I get for a new monitor?

my pc specs
>i5 6500
>8gb rx 480
>8gb DDR$ (upgrading to 16 soon)

I'm at a 1080p/60hz monitor currently with a shitty 4:3 as a second for system monitoring/music/misc. I'm torn between a 2560x1080 ultrawide, or just getting a 1440p screen and using my 1080p one as a second monitor. 1440p would be great but I don't want to have to lower my visual settings too much while gaming. Ultrawide sounds good too but I'm not sure how big of an upgrade 2560x1080 would be over a normal 1080p. Side note, I'm perfectly ok with 60hz so a 1080p 144hz doesn't really interest me right now
>>
>>58129684
But if I overclock to 4.5, will the turbo boost then be 4.5 -> 4.7 instead of 4 -> 4.2? Or will 4.5 be the new roof even for the turbo boost?
>>
>>58129428
Go RX 460.
1050/1050 ti is a bit more expensive for the kind of performance you're looking for with those games.

Plus, AMD is improving the drivers for their cards over time. RX 460 managed to match a couple games the 1050 had a hold over it.
>>
>>58129672
any reason why it's over 300 watts for these suggestions? I've run these low profile gpus on 250 just fine, if they were full sized I could understand, but I don't see why the sudden need to almost double it without the gpu even installed.

>>58129773
really now?
>>
>>58129797
To dont use a unknown PSU at 100% load maybe?

>>58129773
Yeah.
RX-460 is under 100 bucks, and accomplishes what you're looking for.

None of the 1050 cards are under 100 at the moment.
1050ti is in just a bad place right now for the higher price brackets. The price/performance ratio up top is somewhat fucked up because for 20-30 bucks more, a midrange RX-470 can be bought for even better performance.

Besides all that, just roll with the 460.
>>
>>58129808
that's what the power management setting are for. the original parts I had listed are rated at about 50-100 watts under load, 160 with the gpu installed. 250 gives me plenty of headroom. even if it's not 80+

It's not a question of supporting hyper threading specifically. 8ta whether or not they utilize more than 4(FOUR) threads. If the program only uses 2 threads, then you might as well have an i3. Most games do not utilize more than 4 threads, but that's starting to change. Whether or not they need that extra power, or if it makes a significant difference to have it. Is a different debate entirely. The big thing is that having those extra threads allows for better work in the backend, which may provide better performance in your game.

Hey pc builders, please help me build a new system, currently running off a computer built in 2011 which is still going okay, despite blue screens once a week.
Games I frequent include Overwatch, Rust, Rocket League and probably Fallout 4 amongst others as the Steam Winter Sale kicks in.

Current Specs include:
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6900 series (Sapphire)
Processor: Intel Core i& CPU 960 @3.20GHz (8CPUs)
Motherboard: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
RAM: 8GB

My friend build this one for me back in 2011 as I was quite computer illiterate, while I'm not the best now, I am a bit better. My budget is around $1000-1200 for a pure pc (no peripherals) and I live in Australia.

I assume at a base level I would want to get an i7 processor and at least 16GB of ram, however am unsure on the differences between running say two 2GB graphics cards or 1 4gb card. Am also quite clueless on the difference in motherboards.

Cheers
