What is a good amount of body fat to have?

I've used a caliper above my nipple, across from my belly button and on my thigh and I average about 10% body fat

I think the healthy recommendation is 18% and lower. Although if you go below 6% I would not consider that to be healthy. Anyway ask your doctor not some meme board. 10% is pretty low though to be honest, if you have some muscle mass then you probably have a very visible six pack.

What would happen if I dropped squats from my routine and only did sumo deadlifts for my legs? Keep in mind sumo works quads more than conventional.

Why is losing natty gains so hard?

I've been lifting for 5 years, but in the last year, I've really slacked off, I've barely been lifting at 50% of my maxes, really simple and easy light weight shit, but for some reason, I am maintaining the same body that I gained while lifting with a fuck load more intensity and far more weight/volume etc.

I honestly thought I'd end up losing a lot of size by becoming lazy with my lifting but Ive maintained very easily. Hell, I don't even squat anymore, just deadlift once or twice a week, and I've maintain the same development in my legs that I had a year ago when I was squatting 3-4 times a week and deadlifting.I've also limited my deadlifts to sets of 3 for 180kg, stopped progressively overloading on them, a year ago I was almost at 240kg for a single and probably could have been at 260kg by now. I use to also incline bench 110kg for reps, but I haven't gone higher than 70-80kg for reps in the last year and my chest is still as good as it was when I was repping 110kg.

So what's the reason for this? Why the fuck is my body still looking the same now, while lifting like a lazy cunt, compared to when I was training my ass off every session killing it taking it extremely seriously. Is it just easy to maintain or is this shit not even that serious.

I feel like after 3 years of lifting that I didn't really gain anymore difference in physique, despite continuing to get stronger.

My 4th year of lifting (going so fucking hard, and seeing very little changes) made me decide to take a break from the serious mode lifting for my 5th year.

This 5th year has been so lazy and easy for me lifting wise, and yet I'm still exactly the same as I was back when I was killing myself every session, trying to squeeze out every kilo on the bar and every rep. Now I lift like a fucking pussy and yet still maintain the same kind of body I had while lifting like a fucking beast.

This makes me question the validity of actually training hard as a natty.

Then you'd be wrong. Muscle is very metabolically expensive for your body to create, so you need substantial stimulation over long periods for it to actually create a significant amount of muscle mass. However, maintaining that muscle mass is significantly less metabolically expensive. Biologically, it makes sense that your body would maintain most of your muscle mass despite the reduced work load so that it doesn't have to spend years preparing your body for the harder labor. So you need to bust your ass to grow, but maintenance isn't as difficult.

It's the same reason you'll see old retired labor dudes that still have big old man muscles despite spending most their days idle.
