How come when I do pullups I never feel it in my lats?
After a 5x5 of regular wide grip pullups with pretty decent form, my arms forearms and shoulders seem to be more sore than my lats, how come?

Chinups, hammer grip chinups or neutral grip pull ups give the biggest stretch of the lats and create the biggest range of motion for them. Therefore they let you feel it more in them.

calories are the law. that's just how the body works.
however, if you're trying to lose like 10 lbs you don't have to count your whole life; just until you cut down to your ideal weight then resume eating normally.
Unless you're trying to do some extreme changes, calorie counting is like bike riding. Once you learn how peddle yourself, it becomes second nature.
But to answer your question, it is possible but requires Olympic level output depending on how much junkfood you're trying to cram.

in my experience it doesn't really make a difference. as long as you hit your protein and calorie goal you're good, at least as far as gains are concerned.
