So basically whenever people here seem to talk about wanting to work in finance, they always just seem to refer to fields such as investment banking, trading, or private equity, etc.

But obviously there are a whole other bunch of things you can do, like work as a treasury analyst, work in the financial analysis and planning team, or even move into corporate development or investor relations at large public companies.

Does anyone have experience or know much about working these kind of jobs? And general "alternative careers in finance" discussion.

its easy money, banks help schools, schools send kids to banks, banks can plot evil and kids get paid

>But obviously there are a whole other bunch of things you can do

this is more of an academic thing which is the opposite from ^^ with genuine interest in money, finance, economics etc. not just earning as dumbfuck, it will mostly pay less so its shown as something less, not the proper finance job, but you can do analysis freelance from your bathtub if you want

do you wanna make sick money or learn about the finance and die?

Tinder Scams Thread

What is the point of some of these scams? They are run via bots, some seem to be autonomous others seem to be actual people running them but operating them in a way that would make them seem like they are a bot.

>pic related

It's fairly easy to tell who is a bot and who is not just from looking at the profile and pictures. Generally bots are empty profiles with some too much makeup too tan cleavage shot photo stolen from some Instagram selfie whore. Some are more sophisticated and fill in profile information and post several photos. Some are so bad they'll use Arianna Grande pictures. The names are generally exotic and don't match the pictures. Example a white girl with blonde hair with the name "Fuentes" or a Spanish looking girl named Sally etc etc.

The manner the bots behave differs greatly some auto message you as soon as you match, others wait for a message and then auto reply. The messages are often very generic and usually like pic related. Sometimes they feature an out of area phone number that foreign sounding men generally answer. Washington DC area code is a popular one, which is also common in other scams.

What I am trying to identify and I'm looking for input here. As to what the end game is for these bot scams type operations. Tindmeet seems to be a clickbait dating site that probably steals credit card information. However I can see too many people actually falling for that.

Some of the accounts will carry on a small conversation before dropping the link or phone number, actually answering questions correctly and such, leading me to believe someone is actually physically using the account.

Generally with online dating scams your pretend to be a girl and see after a certain time of chatting and possibly even sending nudes you found online, request bus fare via WU for a meetup or stuff from an Amazon wishlist. If convincing enough, it is generally pretty easy to do. Was much more popular prior to video chat and skype. I just can't seem to find an explanation as to what the point is if its barely a profitable scheme.

What is everyone's experience with Tinder bots, is anyone running one?

Is it worth buying followers and likes on Instagram to 'kick start' a business? Like selling merchandise and stuff?

For only $30 I can literally buy 20,000 followers, and they will be fake, but people will see my pictures in the popular section because they're getting so many likes, and then they'll look at my account more, and maybe follow or like the pictures. Also, you can buy likes as well, and 500 or so likes per picture, will cost like $1.20, which isn't a lot if I'm only uploading like every 2 or 3 days. ($10 a month basically). It will also make my picture go into the popular section, and more people will like it.

But I'm just wondering if I should do this, or will it just not work? Do you have any tips for giving the illusion of a popular account, to turn it into a popular account eventually?

>Any social media growing tips requested, specifically using fake followers and likes.

Thought about this recently too. Thinking about starting a small scale business with Instagram being the main platform and was thinking the same thing about my pictures of product being on the discover page.
>>
>>965553
No. This is like asking if its worth buying upvotes on Reddit. What is the point if you aren't engaging with your target market?
>>
>>965675

Just to get exposure, my target market would be teenagers and young adults. (Trendy clothing) so that's basically everyone on Instagram, which means I just need "exposure".

/biz/ I need your help, what are you some realistic options for a new canadian engineer grad?

>be 22, senior in chemical engineering, minor in applied math graduating in may 2016
>live in Canadian oil patch, literally no one is hiring atm (me and my whole class are jobless)
>1 year of internship experience in an oil pipeline company
>have some student debt, but have plenty saved up to pay it off

Realistically, I would have job already lined up if this was 2014, but oil prices have really fucked up my plans. I've been thinking about possible alternatives to engineering, possibly consulting, possibly some business analyst position. I'm willing to move and I'm willing to do anything to start my career. What should I do /biz/? I would prefer not doing anymore schooling or not much more. Is there anything I can do? Will employers handle engineers for general analyst positions?

I feel kind of screwed desu, I did everything /pol/ said, get a good STEM engineering degree with decent G.P.A and experience. Was it all a meme?

I paid $1.69 for regular unleaded gasoline in Ft. Worth, TX, today.

Gasoline producers are worried about net-back pricing being announced on December 4.

So, the sell-off begins. Hang on, /biz/

This link is to the CME page on oil futures. The prices are clearly expected to rise and since F(P)=E(r), then this is not a good reason to sell off.

I need some advice.
My dad is rather successful in real estate and I've been living off his dime. I'm 23 years old and have spent almost every day since I finished highschool playing videogames and watching Tibetan elephant paintings. I have absolutely zero business experience and have never had a job in my life.

Yesterday my dad told me I'm his only son and his biggest dissapoitment in life. He told me that for Christmas he is going to give me one million dollars and if I can't show him two million by the end of next year he never wants to see me again.

Could I get some advice on where I should start? Or should I just go to the casino and put it all on red?

If I need to provide a bank statement as proof of address, does the paper it's issued on matter?

i.e. are photocopies or printed scans acceptable?
17 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
How about printed eStatements, for that matter?
>>
Probably depends on where you're applying to, best to ask them

Some places may ask for a certified copy, some will be fine with a photocopy/scan, and some will only accept originals

no idea about estatements, since they aren't posted they don't really prove an address, but maybe they're acceptable.
>>
Actually, it doesn't matter what type of paper or even the means by which it is printed.

Hence, I do my bookkeeping with a halt-eaten crayon and a wide-ruled notebook with the boxtop on it. Be cool, help your school.

1) How do you withdraw money from an index fund account such as Vanguard? Do you just get mailed a check for like $100,000?

2) I know Vanguard deals with over 3 trillion USD, what exactly stops a rogue worker or someone in their company from stealing money?
>>
>>961523
>3 trillion
>what stops them from getting robbed?

Exactly that. They have financial power equal to a world bank; they simply call up the employee's bank and say "he doesn't actually own that, return it" and they will.

Hello /biz/, I'm 19 years old and want to buy this megayacht called Serene in less than two years time.

It costs $330m and consequently $30-40m per year to operate, so I would need atleast $50m residual profit coming in each year to continue using the yacht.

Charter price is $5m per week.

How do I accomplish this? I have about $5000 as of now and am unemployed.

All ideas are greatly welcomed.
302 posts and 120 images submitted.
>>
>>932593
The $330 million is just a label created by the bourgeois to control the means of yacht ownership. What you have to do then is gather the most unprivileged people in France (e.g biker gangs) and march to Monaco in a campaign of liberation. When Monaco is free from the domination of capitalism, there will no longer be a price label on the yacht, but rather, it is now a yacht of the people. But only you get to use it, because you are the most equal among equals.

How much do employers really look into your background, and how much would they really care about non-"politically correct" stuff?

I run an online gaming community which I have a lot of work invested in and it showcases my technical skills well. However, the game is of a "no-rules" nature and people who play on it are often vulgar and racist. Is this something that may be an issue?
