I'm writing a story in which 2000 (wealthy and educated) people move to Antarctica and there found the Republic of Antarctica. Throughout some shenanigans the rest of the world is too busy with other things to react properly but they aren't happy. They make a small town deep in the frozen shithole, they have a nuclear reactor providing an abundance of electrical energy. They quickly become self sufficient in food, so that's not a problem. Their pooled resources allow them to buy a limited amount of machines from few neutral countries (China?), but they don't have infinite resources and soon you'll have 1900 people not doing anything.
How do you kick-start an economy from scratch? How does money emerge? Due to conflict in the rest of the world they have some time, but eventually they'll have to protect their country either diplomatically or by force. I've thought about going the same route other small countries go, banking and finance, low taxes for corporations etc rather than industrial because of the lack of people and living space. You essentially have a very small population with few natural resources.
Even though this started out as a commie community, ultimate goal is going into a free market economy and creating a very wealthy country.
The only thing I can see come out of Antarctica is some sort of science or technology economy. Nothing else really unless they find some sort of resource (don't know the country well enough to say)
antarctica contains like 90% of the worlds freshwater or something, right? so let's say that the world is in a water shortage crisis (not too unlikely), the people living in antarctica will be sitting on a literal goldmine.
Have you lied on our resume before? How did it work out?
Also how much could you or have you gotten away with? Can you lie about a degree or do employers check or ask for a copy of it? I know its harder to lie about experience but you can put a friends number down as an ex employer to solve this. What do you think /biz/ is it worth it?
>>966936
for example
i am currently a student and found a “route supervisor” job that pays 38-42k which is about 3.5x what i am making now. I could still go to school with this job which claims to be entry level but asks that you have some type of supervisor/managerial experience. Thinking about lying on resume about said experience and go for it. Whats the worst that can happen?
>>966936
Why don't you know how to spell résumé properly? "Resume" is a verb
>>966942
forgot about the accents
guys.
what if.
>get a loan to invest
Dont invest with loan.
>>966870
>lose money
>now have big debt that keeps growing
Not worth
>>966870
you mean that thing people do all the time? either you would:
>invest your loan, make a profit, pay off loan, enjoy financial success
or
>invest your loan, end up failing, now you're in debt for the loan amount, enjoy a financial set back
good luck in the world of business and finance little guy!

Can I become a analyst? Do I need extra training.
What jobs in finance can i get with a undegrad maths degree ?
Thank you :)
>>966584
Well, this is convenient, I just answered the same question in another thread.
"General finance (assurance, audit, consulting, tax, etc): I'd opt for avoiding it like the plague. If you go to any above average uni, you'll see the Big 4 advertising heavily, to the point where they're often voted the best graduate recruiters. It turns out that they're accepting applications from ANY FUCKING DEGREE. Let that sink in for a moment, it'd be hard for you to compete with people with finance degrees, but now you're having to compete basically everyone. Good fucking luck with that. To make matters worse, their intern turnover rates are over 90% and getting the internship is just as impossible as getting the job. So basically, I'm saying that mainstream finance borders on impossible.
Banking: Long story short, go watch a documentary - the whole sector is corrupt as fuck and it's extremely competitive anyway, while being insanely stressful and long hours, I made a bigger post to that shit guy who's spamming about how he wants to be an investment banker. I'll quote it since I suspect the mods will crush him soon.
"You don't want to get into investment banking. Go watch a fucking documentary on Enron, Bernie Maddoff or the global financial crisis. All investment bankers do is backstab people, including each other. It's human nature to overcome limits, like how you keep on bumping this fucking thread - the limits in the business world are capital, and regulations. So the top firms hire top lawyers and accountants and shit to cheat those regulations and sure - they'll get fucking rich, only to fall when they're caught or come the next inevitable rescission.
You cannot win, don't even try."
Obscure parts of finance (e.g. actuarial work, insurance shit): that's my main backup plan, I'm looking to learn more, at least I'll only be competing with STEM graduates

Odd, that stuff usually gets shortened when I paste it. I thought it worked on archived threads...
Guy with a masters in finance, are sales/advising ok? I just want a not absolutely boring job that also gives me a bunch of free time or at least has set hours. I literally dont have any idea what i want to do.

How do I make money online? I'm willing to work as hard as I need to, I just cannot find a job to do online. I've tried writing papers for people, but that didn't work. Any suggestions?

What would you do if you inherited 1/2 of $1Billion?
>>966472
Gas the kikes
>>966472
Trade it for 1/4 of $1 billion because 4 is more than 2
>>966472
kill myself
I inherited 120k from my father and have a somewhat very low cost of living. Would it be worth it to basically live off of it during my whole 20s? Rent is 275$ a month, food is below 60$ a week. I basically spend 10k a year at most.
Is the freedom+youth worth it compared to less ease in my 30+ years?
>>966273
> food is below 60$ a week.
Are you implying that's not a lot? Because that's quite a bit.
tbqfwy you should just invest it. If you follow your plan... what are you going to do AFTER your 20s?
Are you in school? Are you employed?
If you don't care about any of that, then sure. Waste that money and live NEET for the next 12 years.
>>966273
Fuck no, the point of youth is to do fun things. If you're spending 10k per year you're not enjoying your youth anyways.
Buy a house in your neighborhood, invest half of the remainder, use the other half for a vacation or expenses for a bit, get back to work.
Top kek.

Listen to me, very carefully.
Shut the fuck up.
Buy gold.
Thank me later.
What will have to happen for oil to go back up? Opec just needs to cut production?
I have a couple stocks in pipeline and refining which have been hurting but nothing like oil and has companies have been. My losses have almost been covered by dividends from the stocks over the last year anyway.
Thoughts on buying back into oil now or is it too soon?
Too soon!
>>965895
This OP
So much oil has already been taken from the ground, so of course it needs to be refined and piped places, but I'd hold off on buying into BPn exon or Suncor
Uhm, please explain the use for oil with the proliferation of electric cars.

How is Jeff Bezos so rich when his company barely makes money?
>>965344
they reinvest profits
They actually make a shitton
Look at the stock price over the last 20 years.
Do you not know that his salary is taken out as an expense, before profits?
>"barely makes money"
>$88,988,000,000 in revenue
ok OP.
>>965352
Amazon doesn't make money you bumbling retard. Everything about Amazon is about undercutting the market to increase market share. It doesn't turn a profit.
>>965344
Amazon are playing the long con. Bezos' masterplan is to create "the everything store" (good book on the subject with that title) and is willing to do everything to accomplish that (including underpaying workers and generally treating them like shit). His company is valuable due to its assets and market share.
Bezos is a cunt.

Literally thousands of people do this on Ebay buy pricing their item a few dollars more than it sells on Amazon and then just ordering it to the customers house once they buy it on their ebay shop.
It's scam tier.
