Alright /biz/ lets talk business cards. What styles do you prefer? Minimalist? logos and other shit? Let's hear it.

Raised lettering, pale nimbus. White

Mine are very simple. Name, what I do, some contact info, and on the back I have QR codes for stuff too. Don't even have a logo, just a simple gradient.

I ordered some reinforced ones that have plastic corners, but wound up not using them. Too expensive, and most of my clients aren't going to be impressed by them. I am contemplating doing raised lettering on the next batch of them in a couple of months.

Mechanical engineer buddy has these thick cards that you can assemble into a catapult to launch anything smaller than a nickel with. Extremely cool, and also stupidly expensive.

How do find the career where you can make the most amount of money with the least amount of schooling?
Is it pharmacist?

It's software engineer. 4 years in a bachelor's program and I started at $100k + stock + bonus.

Don't go into the field if you don't plan on studying your data structures and algorithms though or you will be one of those $50k code monkeys.
>>
Something with either a trade or computers

Good luck getting kucked with pharmacy. You'll easily have 250k+ in debt by the time you finish at ~26 years old and you'll be working 60 hours a week at a CVS

I think this can belong to /biz/

I've been using a particular username since 2003-2004 all over the internet forums and there's this one guy who, for god knows what reason, decided to register a facebook account using the username in question back in 2011.

I've been thinking how likely would it be for me to sue this guy for a reasonably huge amount of money if I registered the username as a trademark and proved the court that I came up with it in 2003?

The guy is posting retarded /b/ style stuff on his Facebook profile continuously so I could claim it's hurting the image of my business.

It's a combination of letters and not a regular dictionary word, so that should work for my advantage.

I will probably ask the same question from a lawyer too if I'm considering it seriously, but I just wanted to ask here first. I don't want to waste money on a trademark registration unless I can be 70%+ sure it will be profitable.

Advice please?

>amerifats problems.
just sue whatever moves, maybe you can get a penny out of it.

and seriously.
did u register the username in 2003?
if yes, why the hell would u do that?
if no then forget about your silly idea.
>>
>>971570
I still have accounts opened in different forums that are currently active and the account registration dates go back as far as 2003. I definitely could provide proof that it's my username. It's just not a trademark right now which is the only thing that matters.
>>
>>971569
I believe AND COULD BE WRONG that you would probably have to demonstrate that you have used this name to make money at some point. Then you could register and send him a cease and desist, but I doubt you could retroactively sue him.

Where's the biz lawyers at?

Hey, /biz/, question to you: how viable it is to buy something BRAND NEW compared to USED?

For instance, it would be much cheaper to buy a used car, but at the same time it can have some hidden faults in it. BUT at the same time you're saving a lot of money on it.

Same goes for other products, really.

So what's your take on this: should we save money and buy USED stuff or buy something NEW and not worry about any sudden pitfalls in quality and shit?
15 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>971516
when in doubt, buy new. 9 times out of 10, used is more costly in the long run.
>>
>>971516
Depends on what it is. There's no one size fits all here.

Sometimes buy computers/laptops used is a good choice.

Buying cars used is always a good choice.

Buying used clothes can be good, sometimes great things can be bought for quite cheap. Namely suits from a thriftstore. Sure it's not brand name or bespoke but for like $20 you can get something that usually looks pretty decent. Good if you're just memeing it

The only factor I can think of is if people lose faith in the monetary system and think some type of doomsday is going to come so they exchange fiat currency for currency with intrinsic value like gold.

Apart from this why the hell would gold/silver rise/fall? pretty confused, but it also seems volatile and a good place to try your luck

Do you think theres any way to make a relatively safe profit from gold/silver? May sound stupid but the only thing a person could do is look at historic prices and buy when theyre low and sell when they are near the historic high

What's the viability of starting a business selling video games? Like an actual store with racks and such? Would it be futile with a company like Gamestop and websites like Amazon out there?

don't touch it, its a dead plague rat of a biz

Yes, because they buy millions of copies for really low prices, no company is gonna sell you 10 copies for the same price

now if you've got 10 billion dollars laying around, and want to open up a bunch of fucking stores all over the country or the world, and can get a bunch of people together that are famous, then yes, it can be extremely lucrative

It just seems basically monopolized for such a profitable medium. Is there really no way to make money off of em besides making them?

I need help on a school project in which we need to choose whether my group and I should build a Tesla light truck company in either IRreland, China, or the U.S. and wh. So far we got Ireland due to its low cost in producing a plant and its taxes. Any help would be appreciated.

Someone explain this to me. This is what I understood:

If I spend money on my business, I can write it off as a business expense, and get proportionate tax cuts, effectively nullifying that I spent money?
21 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>970944
You're thinking about it the wrong way.

Let's say X is a business. If X purchases a laptop for 4 dollars then he won't become any richer or poorer, because he just acquired a laptop worth 4 dollars.
If he sells that laptop for 6 dollars, then he has to substract 4 dollars worth of expenses from those 6 dollars to find out what his profits are.
But if he uses up that laptop, then that laptop slowly becomes worth less. And he becomes poorer.

When the laptop is used to do your business administration, then it aids in the sales, but you don't sell your laptop.
So if you make 100 profit, then you can say: well, to make that 100 profit I had to spend 4 dollars, so I substract that from my profit.
The tax agency might object and say you have to substract that over several years because you keep using the laptop to generate a profit for several years.
>>
>>970949
>because you keep using the laptop to generate a profit for several years.
And as it ages and you use it it becomes worth less. Meaning you're actually losing money.

>if you make 100 profit, then you can say: well, to make that 100 profit I had to spend 4 dollars, so I substract that from my profit.
I follow this...

>The tax agency might object and say you have to substract that over several years because you keep using the laptop to generate a profit for several years
and now I don't. Not sure what the relationship between this idea and the last is. You might try starting from the ground up and explain tax cuts for business expenses from there. My foundation might be shaky, so if you'd be so kind to help me out there, I'd appreciate it.

Somebody was trying to explain this to me recently and from what they said, it sounded like quite the radical concept.
