nzfag here, I just got a summer contract in retail and only work 30 hours a week (currently between HS and uni), and I make 4-5 times that. How the fuck is it even possible to make that little?

Here in the Netherlands if you're 23 years old that's less than 1/6th of the minimum wage.

what is your most valuable /biz/ness pen that you use to sign your most important documents? Or pen you keep in your suit for important meetings and events?

I am looking around for a pen just for this purpose, right now I have some Mont Blanc my dad got me but I think it's time to spend a little more and get something a little more prestigious I guess

Lemme see your pens and give me some recommendations!

I don't really care.

I steal pens all the time, I don't carry anything around. In my office I have almost five new pens at the end of every day.

That way I don't have to worry about ink running out.

We sign our own documents digitally, so I don't have to worry about the ephemerality of shitty ink.

At the end of the day my secretary takes all the pens but the best one, I think he collects them.

The best pens I've gotten are from high stakes tech incubators. They try really damn hard to have quality marketing handouts.

Sup /biz/ Bitcoin General thread

Anyone here currently mining bitcoin? Is bitcoin mining still profitable in 2015? Recommendations for someone who wants to start mining bitcoin?

I'm willing to invest about $2000 into mining hardware. Now being that it is not nearly as profitable as previous years I have the possibility to cut out power costs completely. I'm not running solar nor out of a dorm but the way I plan on running it will be entirely covered to where I wont drop a cent on power. I don't see a flaw in this currently however I want input from those that are mining or have mined in the past. How have you guys done with bitcoin?

Also, the mining bubble was like 4 years ago.

Are mining pools not a profitable option?

If I'm able to generate 1-2 bitcoin with hardware they pay themselves off within a few months.

Black friday/cyber monday has been fucked for the past 5 years.

Back in the mid 2000s was the "golden age" of black friday/cyber monday. Nowadays, there simply are no "deals" and the only way to truly find good prices on shit is to physically enter stores and stalk the clearance racks/open box/etc shit.

Basically, we've gone so far forwards that we're backwards again.

Median Income 2012: $63,550
Job Growth: %13.1

Financial analysts/examiners growth from 2012-22: 100.9

Hold on to your ass. Opec meets on December 4th. This will be "the big one". There will be many "rumors" this week. Probably not a good idea to trade off any of them.

Traders want to sell a lot of oil "short" but are scared of Opec (read Saudis) making a counter intuitive decision in that regard. So price action might be flat up to that date.

If they, Opec/Saudis, announce no change in policy, oil begins descent to a $20 handle. If they announce "cooperation" (their definition is different than yours) price goes to $50 ish handle where shale oil producers will hedge sell an ocean of forward crude oil as fast as their masters tell them to.

Producers should have hedged for more years than they did but some engineers told them oil had to come back to $100/bbl because of their "social programs". Engineers should stick to drilling and let traders run the hedging. Live and learn.

Why are taxes a form of theft? Why shouldn't we have a flat tax where I pay the same amount of tax dollars on my investments as Jamal does on his money flipping burgers? That would only be fair.

>>

Damn, right. A regressive tax would actually be better, come to think of it. Those poorfags don't know how to properly use their money, so it would just go to waste in their hands anyway.
>>
Many of us here agree with you, and you are in fact correct that a flat tax rate is fairer on everyone

However, the majority of people are burger flippers, and they have decided that since higher earners can afford to cover more than their fair share, they should be forced to do so and take some of the burden off the working class

It's pragmatism over idealism, the only realistic way to support bloated modern governments

A flat tax rate for everyone would necessitate a huge reduction in the size of the state, and politicians can't propose something like that because nobody would vote for it

I'm in a dilemma because I'm trying to approach the problem with opposite mindsets, so I'm looking for some advice on the matter.

I started my first year of university in Poland (it's free here) this year. I'm doing Chemical Technology and I started the year with a plan of mastering later in pharmaceutical chem. While I do find some of the subjects interesting (especially the chemistry subjects) I'm having second thoughts because I perceive it more as a "This is interesting and cool to know" rather than a "I find this so interesting that I read about it in my free time and would like to work doing this". Even though I haven't experienced it, the idea of working in a lab seems like it doesn't fit my personality type at all. I'd like to work for myself - and with chemistry, especially pharmaceutical, starting your own business successfully seems like an unrealistic thing.

My plan B would be to move to the UK and work in a restaurant as a waiter (which I already did this summer for a month) or some other job. The minimum wage in the UK is 4x of what I have in Poland. With the added tips and a frugal mindset I could save up a decent amount of money in a few years, and invest this into a business or something else. The people I met while previously working in a restaurant were also young and cool people from different places and I think I sort of fit in that kind of environment.

However, I'm trying to tackle my dilemma with different thinking. I'm telling myself that I need to be realistic about life and since I have this opportunity to study for free I should take it. Everyone says first year chemistry is the worst and I should just toughen up and get through these couple of years to get a degree and then move abroad (I'd want to do it even if you could earn the same $ in Poland). I'm worried if I dropped out of uni I'd feel stupid and let myself down for not being educated in some subject.

Any advice?

When will the student debt bubble burst and what will its consequences be?
34 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
It isn't a bubble. It will not burst. There is no excess speculation driving the cost up and no assetts to give up if you default to cause it to burst.
>>
>>977974
Student loans are already backed by the government. So there is no vicious cycle of margining off the loans like the banks did in the housing situation.

A massive number of graduates need to default, massive like in the 100,000s. Then the government will lose expected income that will be noticeable. Then they will garnish wages of those 100,000s because you cannot default on government backed loans.

It will then become a California default situation where a private bank will then have to cover the debt impact of the government and the Fed would be faced with the impacts of having almost 0 loan rates and no way to pay off the debt the banks are covering.

So they might push then into negative interest rate territory like Swiss and Japan have been doing in hopes people spend more money and more of that tax trickles back into the government.

The implications for our dollar would be terrible. But it would bring in the tax the Fed needs to cover the loss when no one can pay the loans.
>>
>>977978
The speculation is a college degree will allow a person to get a well-paying job, which will then be able to pay off student loans plus interest. What happens when the job market becomes too saturated with college (happened before, pre-revolution Iran had tons of unemployed college grads because not enough jobs were available that need college grads)? If grads have no (well-paying) jobs, and cost of college keeps going up, we sooner or later will see a mass-default on student loans. Won't this have a massive effect on the economy?

If you think you're guaranteed to lose, you're going to lose.
>>
People are poor because they don't save money. They would rather buy "nice things" than save money. Unless you are a minimum wage degenerate, there is no reason you should not be saving. Everything you've done, you've so voluntarily. Don't blame your student loans, credit card debt, and other mistakes on the government or "muh capitalism" like a little faggot. If you are too ignorant to thrive in a capitalist economy where anybody can make it, then go hang out with the socialist faggots in Sweden.

Economics is the baseless propaganda the finance people use to control the public and politicians. The results can't be replicated, so they're effectively useless.

See the federal reserve study:
http://www.federalreserve.gov/econresdata/feds/2015/files/2015083pap.pdf

Economics has no predictive power or consensus, nor has it ever had predictive power or consensus. It's just a bunch of baseless opinions, not a science.
>>
>>977863
So what exactly is the difference between the two?

You managed to reply to my topic, without replying to it.
>>
>>977872
The first line: the economics people work for the finance to produce sufficiently convincing studies in order to get the public to do what the finance people want. That's the difference.

Economics is more about money in general, while finance is money as applied to banking and stock market speculation.

Don't listen to this bullshit. Unless you live for free with someone, you will always have to pay for a place to live. You can get a 30 year mortgage and at the end of 30 years you will have paid whomever holds the debt triple the original price of the home. Then you are the dumbass. Paid triple for a fucking house.

Rent a cheap place on half/third of what you'd mortgage. Put other half in equities (doesn't take 180 days to sell a stock like it does a house) and pay cash for your house in less than 15 years.
