What are the odds of getting a commodity trader job without a bachelors degree? I have a strong background in sales and agriculture and I'm capable of passing the Series 3 exam. But I can't find any information on job placement without a degree.

Also commodity general. Anyone have any success or horror stories?

If you can show that you can earn on your own (portfolio of wins from home) then thats a huge leg up but the catch 22 is why would you need them if you could do this? (besides them having better equipment)
>>
>>1101981
You get to play with other people's money for one thing, bring contracts to the market for another. Opening your own brokerage is almost impossible so the only other option is to risk your own capital and even then you need a considerable bankroll to do any serious trading. 25k in a margin account for example.

Any tips for someone about to drop out of college?

I'm going to receive about half a million bucks in a year and thought that I'd just be wasting money continuing my degree at this rate.

get your degree with it? you never know what could happen.
half a million wont do much unless you plan on investing that money on a business.
>>
>>1101783
I plan on investing it, but I'm thinking about using the time I have now to focus on self-study in something which could get my a stable job.

Something that's more experience based, but not a blue collar one tho.

how is this even fair?

all of these retards don't know how easy index investing is or how mind-blowing stock market returns are because they don't know shit and are afraid of variance.

I don't have much of an argument other than

- It seems magical that you can just put your money away somewhere and have it roughly doubled in 10 years

- It seems poignant/sad that so many people don't understand it and don't take advantage of it

How do I go about cold-emailing/ cold-calling employers about internship positions? I'm a mechanical engineering student.
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1100257
Call them, introduce yourself. Ask if they offer any internships.

If they say they do, ask them where you could send a resume to. Thank them, and hang up.

You'll probably have a better success rate than applying online.
>>
>>1100318
Would you recommend emailing them beforehand? I've heard conflicting advice on which you should do first.
>>
>>1100318

Visiting in person sometimes works, depending on the place.

Obviously if it's a place with some sort of security you'd need to call ahead to visit, but hey.

20 year old here. Looking to research and study the stock market. Is it worth it for me to buy penny stocks and use Robinhood? Or should I just save my money until I have 2-3k and play the market then?

I have an idea for a financial technology startup. I have sufficient development skills to make it come true in a matter of months - a year and a half at most.

How can I validate this idea?

Broadly speaking, is investing my time, committment and money worth it, considering that 90% of startups fail?

Not sure if this is the right board to post on but here we go:
I believe I may be getting scammed and need some advice from the you guys.

I applied for a job for a third shift cleaning position at a factory where they make boats for the government, this would be a great fit for me because I'm in school and really need something that will work with my schedule .
The cleaning company is contracted out to a private firm so I would not be working directly for the state, I just got a call from the contracted cleaning company for an interview, and they said I would need to bring a bunch of things, they want to see my birth cert., drivers licence, need my SSN, but most concerning is they want me to pay 20$ for a criminal state background check.
Does that sound like some sort of scam to you guys?

I looked up the address they gave me on google maps and found the shop, it looks pretty normal, and it is a cleaning/janitorial service on the sign outside, and I used wayback machine and their website has been around for 12 years, but idk if I should trust them, also they called me for an interview today and I just filled out the application yesterday.
I wouldn't mind paying if I knew I had the job as long as I passed, but Im pretty poor

It's definitely a thing some places do.
But if the place you're working at has you paying your own background check they're probably going to nickel and dime you on uniforms and supplies too. I wouldn't put it past it for them to pay you in prepaid cards that charge interest. (My hs dropout buddy does jobs that shit on him like this).

So yeah, probably legit since you've seen their physical location, but basically modern day indentured servitude. I would highly advise against it.

Keep looking senpai. Try to look into security guard work if you must do graveyard shifts. Less likely to be treated and played like an illegal or a slave.

I spent two years prioritising around a female.
I had this belief we would get married, buy a house and have babies together. This belief was so strong that I did everything possible to try and make it come true. I dedicated myself to work hard, earn and save money for our life which I wanted to make it as easy as possible for her. A month ago she told me she was depressed and didn't know what she wanted anymore, this was a total kick in the dick for me. Before I go any further I'm 23 now with everything going for me, I'm on a salary that earns me 1.5k a week with a lot of bonuses. You would think I'd be happy with that, but everyday I go to work sad and angry all the time, I've become so stressed that I've started thinking stupid. I've been emotionally compromised, I've started to have bad thoughts, and have considered doing criminal shit as a way of coping with it all. I want to be happy again.

>$250,000 saved due to living with parents still.

I feel like quitting my job, and getting my Master Degree, but then I don't want to fuck myself over though and be out of a job. I don't know what to do? This girl has fucked my brain, and my thought process.

I want to be happy.
What do you guys do to be happy?

Get an offer for a MSc course, then quit your job. We have a saying in my country:

>Dig a new well, don't spit in the old one.

Once you get an offer at a top school and funding (and whatever else you might need), quit your job.

You have the experience, the MSc should make you more employable and open more doors to better jobs.

(I assume you have a BSc by the way and the MSc is 1 year only. If you want to burn through 4 years worth of college and a large % of your savings, you might want to reconsider)
>>
>>1100944

A good way to feel happy is to do something to make other people happy. Why don't you stop being so selfish and try to figure out why your girl is depressed?
>>
>>1100944
Sue her for causing emotional stress, offer to drop the case is she marries you.

I have never searched for that, but if there is a standard approach, maybe first search on the most simple corporate page: Berkshire Hathaways'. There they seem to hide in the shareholder letters.

I double dog dare you to tell me how to turn $999 to $3 million in 6 months, other than to keep wasting it on lottery tickets hoping to win the jackpot or a high parimutuel secondary prize when the jackpot is high and there is a statewide lottery rush.

she works in a small law office, I asked her many time if she can talk to her boss and her friends about getting me into some kind of internship or job though nepotism, but she never was able to do it, and I'm an only child, and no other living family.

Hey /biz/, thought I'd ask this here

I've been offered an unpaid internship for a dishwasher position at a local food place. Question is, how long would you typically have to wait until you get promoted to being a regular employee? Should I take this internship or not?

Sounds like a great opportunity, nice job.

What was your major ?

I'd say go for it, if you really do a good job you can start to discuss for some sort of compensation after 2-3 months.
>>
>>1100809
I'd take it, but during negotiations you have to make it absolutely clear that you will walk in a few months if you aren't promoted to wage-track employee. Once on wage-track, you should be promoted to paid employee within the half year.

Good luck anon, talk to your university department advisor so you can earn credits doing the internship towards your bachelors in dishwashing.

You probably have to write a 30 page paper.
