Girlfriends dad used it. Or one like it I am not sure.

Purchase #1
>Dude has a hard on for 3-D
>Seriously loves it
>Saw a 3-D projector going for like a thousand dollars
>add claims its a multi thousand dollar theater grade projector
>dude buys it
>Gets a plastic square the size of a small toaster with 2 projector bits
>Manual is written via google translate
>Can get 2-d working
>3-D is supposed to work by pluging it into a pc and having dual screen rigged to play movie in both screens
>Can never make it work

Purchase #2
>same site
>supposedly awesome Laptops for like $400
>I verify that laptops sound great and would be worth 1200-1900 legit.
>PayPal purchase, because supposedly can be undone if you bitch at paypal (My advice for what little its worth, he wanted to use western union to wire cash)
> last minute dude switches to cheaper one (200 ish)and they only use western union
>lost $200

Conclusion:

Sometimes you may be able to get stuff that may be OK or crappy. Prepare to be screwed and try to take what countermeasures you may. And for gods sake don't let the allure of 700% profit blind you.

Daily reminder that if you don't make money the hard way you're not worth shit.

Why so? I moved up the ladder as a male stripper. I can guarantee that the job was pretty long and hard.
>>
>>1101645
I wish that were true, but "the hard way" is resided for those who don't or can't make it the SMART way. Which is 85% of the human population.

This. Making lots of money without destroying your body or mind requires establishing the right process and following up on it.

What is the minimum amount needed to invest in vanguard?

If I throw in $2000 today and a further $500 every month from now, would that be viable or not worth the time/not as efficient as another method?

I'm in my early 20's and want to start as soon as possible, completely dedicated to the long term

3k to open a vanguard brokerage account.
>>
0$, you can buy ETFs
>>
Okay, different scenario: I throw in $3k this week to open an account with the minimum and $500 each month thereafter. A 50/50 stocks to bonds/etfs is probably what im thinking of aiming for due to the low income bracket I reside in

Hey /biz/ sorry I dont visit more often so maybe this is a noobish question.

Until the last 6 months Kroger (kr) had been making steady gains. In the last 6 months or so its stock has been up and down, maybe just fairly valued?

Now it seems quite a few long time VP's and district managers are retiring. Is this because of changes to the company? just getting old and its time to retire? The stock/company not really performing lately and being forced out? or something else?

What does the long term look like?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Looks to me like business cycle.
The stock had been relatively stable for years, then in 2012 started fucking bitches for about 2 and a half years, then has leveled off.
Expansion and plateau? I don't know a ton about Kroger but I know they built a bunch of new stores around 2012.

Over the last year KR has mostly taken its cues from the from the broader market, though faired a little better, with a few occasion where it's popped off . Even in a shitty market people need groceries.
>>
ok, yeah maybe. I m trying to learn this stuff but dont have a ton of experience looking at stocks yet.
>>
To add, on the point of retirees and management flight.

Grocery is a SUPER competitive business, and a few national names have been expanding ( to day nothing of the dominate regional firms).

I had the distinct displeasure to be involved with the retirement plans for a regional grocer thst shit the bed.
>First wave
Big money upper management types pissing off
>second wave
Middle management, almost as a fucking whole, jumped ship to their main competitor
>3rd wave
After they started closing stores their stock collapsed and every poor schmuck still their got boned

Did public spending get the US out of the depression?

Not giving people opportunities to learn trades and to make enough money to feed their families wouldn't have worked
>>
>>1102009
Spending did get the U.S. out of the depression, just it wasn't the New Deal that did it, it helped, but the bigger spending was the war which boosted aggregate demand.

What really got them out was that ALL other superpowers were in no position to compete globally after the war. Otherwise the deficit spending during the war would have hit the US hard, since there would have been not enugh aggregate demand after the war.

UDSSR almost kill, pretty much wiped out
UK full of debt, breaking apart
Japan: nuked
China: destroyed, also bloody civil war
Germany (only superpower with superior technology): bombed out, torn apart, all patents confiscated

This is the only reason the US came out so great during the 50s, 60s and well into the 70s..

Would working and being homeless work?
Get a membership at high end gym which gives you:
-locker
-place to hang your coat(s)
-shower
-washroom
-hygene stuff to keep yourself groomed
-equipment to keep you fit

Buy cheap or on sale business/casual attire to look good and professional

Not sure how to aquire food though. Fast food will come out expensive and unhealthy long term. Maybe volunteer at some food bank type of place/work where lunch is on the company's bill?

At this point, it's reasonable to save 95+% of your income. Therefore if it happens to be 40-50k/year type of job then investing all of it into some index funds should be almost 4000/mo invested which equal to about 1 mil in 10 years, or almost 2 mil in 15 or almost 4 in 20 years.

What do you think?

By the way, living with parents is not an option here.

>>

>those savings numbers

You don't know much about having a job do you
>>
>>1101915
No. Car is out of the question.
Perhaps you could crash at your good friend's place...for like 10 years. Worst case - sleep in airports, train stations. Other option is to simply get a roomate or two to split rent costs.
Although splitting rent would be probably more expensive than simply owning a car and paying insurance/gas for it. I guess, these are your options.

They're overpriced compared to competing smart wireless thermostats that have similar or better features. So while smart thermostats will save you money, no, Nest is not /biz/ approved.

They are /fa/ approved, however, because they're the best looking models out there. So if you have money to burn, you buy Nest.

As opposed to what? People actually believe programmable/smart thermostats will save them money that is an amazing scam that has been created. All you need is a normal thermostat, great if you can control it wirelessly with a remote control, anything beyond that into the trash it goes.

The local rep (Darrell Issa) made a fortune in business then went into politics because why not. I would imagine that many of the millionaire congressmen made their money beforehand.

Do you always wear a suit to an interview? The person bringing me in said that the company is business casual, with his department 'less than business casual'.

When is it (if ever) inappropriate to wear a suit? Could it ever be held against you -- maybe for 'not understanding the culture'?
47 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
overdressing is as bad as under dressing . if he says it's casual absolutely do not wear a suit.
>>
>>1094142
it would be inappropriate at google when they tell you specifically that you're not required to wear a suit for the interview... doubt it would count much against you if you decided to turn up in one anyway because you like suits or something

re: your situation, unless he was specifically talking about the interview itself then I don't think a suit would hurt - plenty of places are business casual day to day but you'd still be expected to turn up in a suit for the interview or, if working there, when meeting clients etc..
>>
>>1094142
Try to dress a notch above their everyday attire: you want to convey that you are serious about the opportunity. You don't need a full suit with a pocket square, but wear a blazer if they say business casual. If the say casual then wear a dress shirt and slacks.
