Got a 5% raise after 3 months, 7% after 6 months and 7% after a year. Also our sales numbers have been through the roof so commissions started 1k a quarter now I'm up to 5k. Been a good year.

This is actually quite accurate. I'm on my first accounting job, 2 weeks in. The average day looks like this.

Minimum wage increase should at least track inflation, and it's better if it goes up slowly. Doubling it instantly is a bad idea, anyway. Certainly it does seem odd that in a period of record increase in profit, companies couldn't afford minimum wage to increase or even track inflation - it's an argument I just don't buy, really.

That said, minimum wage does seem, like many well-intentioned policies, to have some detrimental effects. The argument that without minimum wage rules someone who isn't properly qualified or isn't productive enough to command minimum wage could offer to work at a reduced rate for a period of time for training/improvement or even just to have something on their resume for that time, does appear on its face to have some merit.

So in summary: if we have minimum wage rules it's probably best that the rate increases in a time of economic growth at least somewhat, though I'm not fully convinced it's good in all circumstances to have minimum wage rules.

If 1000 people take some stupid 1/1000 risk, and one succeeds, the media won't let you hear the last of it, how brilliant he was and how you should follow him. You never get to hear from the 999 people who lost their life savings trying their luck at the exact same thing as the successful person.

Thus everybody is enticed to be like our Mr Success, without being able to weigh the risks properly because those other 999 guys are working at McDonalds and sucking dicks behind a bowling alley.

They are only "overpaid" if they generate actual and consistent returns.

Markets can absolutely be predicted.

No disrespect. But if you're thinking about starting your own insurance money, you must have the ability to pay someone to do this shit for you. Not to mention you have much more to worry about priority wise. This isn't a neighborhood taco stand. This type of business requires immense capital to generate any significant revenue.
