The Richest Man in Babylon is one of few books I ever read, and the only book I ever read about finance.

As a non-reader I didn't know what to expect, but decided to give it a go and absolutely loved it!
I can recommend this to any of you who know nothing about finance, and to anyone that loves entrepreneur stories.

I want to ask people that loved this book as much as I did to recommend me some similar books, because I don't know any myself. I'd really love to read more stuff like this.

Also, what are some /biz/ related movies you like?
One that I can recommend is 'There Will Be Blood' (2007). It's about a man trying to make it in the early 20th century oil boom. It's a great movie.

Thanks in advance

You never read, so how can you pretend to recommend a book? Your opinion is shit by the simple fact that you have no reference frame.

To answer your question, there are a few book threads on /biz at the moment.

>Your opinion is shit

Where in my post did you find an opinion about the book?

If you would've read my post carefully you would've understood that I recommended it to people that want to learn about finance based on the fact that I have learned something about finance in the book.

Haven't read it, but /biz/ seems to love Ramit Sethi, and my personal favorite is Tim Ferriss - he made me rethink the entire concept I had about running a business. I had the mindset of Henry Ford - "Provide the best possible product at the lowest possible price" - but Tim somewhat challenged that concept I had and justified why he challenged it. Very important for me as I take my first steps in my business, which is drying the ink on my legal stuff for my state.

Hey, /biz/. I'm starting up a business that involves me driving to several places a day and collecting cash from them, amongst other things. I intend to put the bills and coins in cash register bags to take home to be counted afterwards.

Now, I was wondering how I could safely store those bags of money in my vehicle as I'm going to these different places. I was thinking of finding some sort of lockbox I can have secured to my vehicle, but I'm having trouble finding something good and am also wondering if there's a better option.

Any suggestions?

They make Inna car gun vaults that are pretty robust, and vary in size and shape to fit a variety of purposes. The big frame mounted ones are fucking expensive though.
>>
I'm curious why establishments and businesses would give you their money and you take it back to your house to count.
>>
>>1438588
I'm having trouble finding any that I could fit more than three bags in at once.

>>1438598
I'm not actually doing business with those establishments, they just have my property on their facility.

The money is all small bills and coins, it takes a while to count. I don't consider it safe to start counting out money at these places, especially since many of them will be outdoors.

Ever looked into this, /biz? Buy a cheap classic car or even a 80s/90s era sporty car like a Pontiac Fiero or a Mazda RX8 and see it appreciate in value over time. I only own a 1969 Ford Mustang that I got for $700 several years ago and it's already worth way more than that.

Could be a fun hobby?

I considered investing in square body chevys as they are sentimental to me and i would have an unlimited amount of parts. No room/time/money. 10 years ago you could pick up a good running shortwide for 800 bucks. Now you cant buy a descent vab for 4 grand. #facepalm.

I'd suggest going into it with a niche market. Like (only collect amc javelins from this year to that year) spend a little advertising. Maybe make and join fb groups of collectors. People will talk about you and bring people from all over through word of mouth

Hell, if you can afford to loose money on it and like what you are buying id say dive in. Worse comes to worse your grandkids would have the oarts to keep your hoopty running.
>>
>>1438479
You still have to pay the cost to maintain it over the years, I wouldn't invest in classic muscle cars unless you enjoy working on them and have a passion for it. I dont think sporty cars from the 90's or even 80's will appreciate in value like late 60's muscle cars though...

What does /biz think about Robert Kiyosaki's "Rich Dad" company, books, and classes?

>be me
>typical juco dropout
>read rich dad poor dad
>read about 100 other personal finance books
>take $500 or so seminar
>pretty much intro to more expensive classes and trying hard to upsell
>salesmancheckingin.jog
>i try and see passed the bullshit but get sold but also,
>poorfag
>take advise on fixing credit and fixit debt to income ratio
>mfw i save thousands a year in interest now

So, I'm about to be bad debt free and highly considering paying 5-6k each for 2 investment classes. Still undecided wich 2 but 1 will be real estate related.

So, anyone taken any of these classes or studied any materials from this company?

There are hundreds of personal finance bloggers and related communities publishing all kinds of great content all for free and in higher quality. You most definitely don't need to pay exorbitant fees or leave your bedroom to build your financial knowledge.

http://jlcollinsnh.com/stock-series/ is excellent for beginner investors

reddit communities with great sidebar links:

It baffles me how anybody would even consider paying for that bullshit.

Everytime I see someone talk about Bitcoin its with some years old GPU. Is this just coincidence or is there a reason to avoid using newer cards? (high wear/replacement cost, higher electricity cost, etc)

Asking because I threw in a nVidia 950 in my desktop a couple months ago and was thinking of joining a mining service since I work more than Im home. I guess I should also ask what's the best service to join?

Because money.

Shit cards = cheap cards = More cards running.

So that's all then? Just a lower initial investment? There's no reason to not run a newer card that was bought without mining in mind?

What is your usual day like/what do you do?

Why don't people create multiple small companies to avoid taxes imposed on small companies once they hit an employee limit? For example, you have a landscaping company that becomes very successful. You could then break the company into different companies based on departments (accounting, management, grass cutters). You would then contract the work out to each company at little to no cost.

Why dont people create lots of Businesses? Because people are generally lazy and prone to taking on risk. Also, im pretty sure some businesses already do that, but there are complications. What if you cant find somone to head the other small businesses? What if it looks suspicious to the IRS that you are the owner of multiple small businesses right underneath the limit and somone calls for an Audit? What if your company continues to grow massively? Do you keep creating small businesses to hire excess people? Who is going to watch each and everyone of those small businesses? How far away are they from each other? How long does it take to travel between them? Are you going to be the only one inspecting them all for quality? If you hire somebody else to inspect them, which department are you going to put him under? What if one of the department businesses goes under or something unpredictable happens, like a union uprising?

Check out this bitching maze.
>>
>>1438177

Pretty sure the IRS and the DOL are aware of this scheme and will investigate the business if they suspect it.

But I suppose it could work.

Really it's not a big deal for employers. Things only change with respect to health insurance. After 50 employees you must provide health insurance to your employees. And even then, they just factor that cost into employee pay and lower the pay.

Employees are aware of this. You have 60+ people bagging groceries these days for $8/hr just so they can get the health coverage. Many of those people have out-of-pocket health costs of $20k+ per year.
>>
>>1438372
>Pretty sure the IRS and the DOL are aware of this scheme and will investigate the business if they suspect it.
yep.

what op proposes is a parent company, and it's governed by the same laws as a company of the same size as all of its holdings.

The feds are well aware of it and monitor it closely. For example there's certain government contracts that are set aside for small businesses. If you happen to be a small business that's owned by a parent company that isn't a small business and you bid on one of those contracts the nicest thing you can expect is fraud charges and to be barred from bidding government contracts for a very long time.

People go to prison for what op suggests, it's not clever and he's not by a long shot the first person to think of it.

Hey biz, what's to stop someone with a full ride to apply subsidized student loan money (if they qualify) to some thing like short term bonds? Assuming able to find relatively safe short-term investment that doesn't require too much oversight as one would hope to focus more on school.

I was thinking about this because a friend of mine told me he used his student loans to rent vending machines for passive income.

You have to sign a contract with federal loans stating you'll only use it for school expenses.

Either way I did my research and it appears the only reason they get lower tax rates is because the super rich gain most of their income from capital gains...meaning they only pay 15 percent instead of closer to 40

Just thinking about it: advertising. You could probably get some really sweet jobs if you put on your resume some fake awards, made some fake landing pages for the awards that mention your name in among a fuck tone of real and made up ones.

So much of advertising and marketing is buzzword drivel nowadays that if you can spout enough:
>In this piece of communication lets engage a more youth oriented psychographic through storytelling of our brand identity. I think strategically if we can be more second screen, interactivity, while maintaining our brand personality this will give us a really good ROI.
Then nigga you got it made.

As for actual positions, i don't know, that would take some homework.

Pretending your a priest would be easy to fake I reckon, I don't mean you can waltz up to the church and say you're the new pastor, but if you're looking to run a scam, then call yourself "Father."
