I saw that Rich Dad Poor Dad thread earlier and wanted to start a topic about how to NOT pay out your ass for knowledge. Over the past few months I've been trying to make a career switch from finance into IT. There are so many sites and resources available for cheap or even free, I can't fathom why anyone would spend thousands on a stupid seminar. Pic related- I've spent a lot of time on Khan Academy's intro courses to stuff like HTML and Java. Most recently I got a $9/month subscription to Linux Academy, which is pretty dope. Aside from that I spend a lot of time on YouTube and at the library. What about you guys?

Same here OP. University of Google is free and everyone is enrolled. I also use Lynda.com and recommend it.
>>1440063
I've learned more from Google searching than anything else combined. Stack Overflow has been such a tremendous help to me while learning coding or anything with the command line. I have a mentor who I can call for help, but usually never do because with a little searching I can find whatever I need. What courses have you taken on Lynda?
>>1440118
I had to learn Visio and Project for my job (process design consultant; bank operations guy), so I watched a few of the videos to get familiar with the programs. I think my boss is going to pass along more data analysis work to me too, so I'll cruise Google to learn more about it (like how to use jmp on Excel)
Is dodging regulation in order to destroy an entire industry "innovation"?
My ex who was bad with money bought a new prius on loan so she could make more money with uber and crashed the damn think like 4 weeks in. Her down payment was a loan from friends so she is REALLY fucked.
I cant help but think at least a handful of those regs are there to prevent shit like this...
>>1439820
What regulations?
>>1439827
The ones that apply to legitimate taxi companies, but don't apply to Uber because of their army of lawyers ready to prove that they aren't a taxi company :^DDDD

I was wondering if you guys would give me some feedback on a cover letter. I've never written one before and really want the job.
To Whom it May Concern
I recently saw that V-line was looking for trainee drivers and it's a role I feel I would excel in. My name is David Davidson and while my recent work history is in sales (cold calling) I'd much prefer something more about obeying rules for the safety of everyone involved, rather than finding grey areas for the financial interest of everyone involved.
Though my previous experience in sales may seem like I'd be more suited for something more customer focused, the fact is the customers were always the worst part of the job, as I'm sure you can imagine. While I'm sure I'd perform superbly at a job involving customers, what I excelled at was having personal drive, focus, patience, and mindfulness. These are things I feel are important, and I practice them in my personal and professional life.
Previous to sales I worked as a stockhand for K-mart in Traralgon. Though I always almost met targets while working there sometimes things would slow down in the interest of safety and proper procedure. Moving palettes of stock involves a lot of manual handling and dealing with trucks coming in and out.
I know I would make a great trainee driver, I have a personal interest in trains and enjoy playing around with 'Open Rails', a free, open-source, train simulator and am very keen to learn about driving an actual train. As a student of Monroe University I was always passionate, punctual, diligent and attentive. Even when it meant driving up to Melbourne for optional summer classes.
Warm regards,
David Davidson
This is some meh quality bait. The trains part gave it away. Still 6/10 made me cringe.
>>1439438
oh god that's terrible
>>1440414
It's obvious bait faggot, unless you're samefagging.
Sage.
Girlfriend wants to lease a car but that shit seems like cancer. Can someone explain why this would ever be a good idea?
>>1439187
Leases are great if you want to pretend like you're higher up on the social ladder than you actually are. Or you could just a buy a good, reliable 2 to 4 year old car with decent mileage and resale value. All up to you really.
>>1439195
That's what i was sayin. After your lease you don't own shit and can't resell. I'm trying to find a reason to ever lease a car and I just don't see one
Only worth it if you can write it off as a company expense.
Hello /biz/,
So i currently have saved up 20k US dollars, how can i make even more money with that amount?
> INB4 invest
>>1439085
I feel like I shouldn't even have to point out how preposterous your scheme is
>>1439085
Do people still fall for this in 2016? Cmon, you didn't even try.

How much work is it to start renting out properties?
I have a few down payments available and am looking to rent out to students near a university
Would /biz/ advise?
Rental properties take an eternity to make a profit.
>>1438632
Will take decades to make back your money surely?
> renting to college students
hope you enjoy getting your shit trashed
Sup /biz/ , just opened a dropshipping jewelry store http://galaxy.jewelry but I have no ideea how or where to promote it without paying a shitload of money to adwords/facebook ads .
Anyone here doing e-commerce ? Ebay fags wellcome
promote it on goybook or instagram, normies love jewelry
you misspelled "jewellery" like five times on your page. That and other typos make it look shady as fuck
>>1437249
tried to contact some page admins in this niche to find out if they are willing to sell them. no luck so far
What is your goal?
What is you're bullshit story?
That shit pisses me off so much. Nothing but a bunch of douchey dude bros actually believe this and then they turn out to not actually be worth shit in the end
>>1436984
sure,
thats ur bullshit story... but whats your goal?
>>1436984
Regardless it's true. Yeah motivational quotes are cliche but it's not like they're false.
People often lie to themselves to skirt over or their inadequacies, that's what can be considered the "bullshit story".
is this greatest card of all time?

Do any billionaires lurk /biz/?
>>1435257
I have a portfolio of 316 million if that counts. Haven't seen a billionaire on 4chan yet.
yeah me
>>1435257
Of course not
I genuinely doubt anyone over the age of 25 or making more than 80,000 per annum touches 4chan with a ten foot pole
>Inb4 I have an investment portfolio of 100 gazillion mega bucks
Proof or gtfo
>be me
>18 y/o just finished school, now off to college
>wants to be an entrepreneur
>spent my entire teenage thinking that graduating in finance would be a good idea.
>finds out that finance jobs aren't entrepeneur compatible as you work 9 to 6 and have no free time to create your business.
>find out after graduation you have literally no skills because it's not a STEM and you can't innovate if you have no knowledge of how to create things.
What degree would you choose at the age of 18 to help you be an entrepeneur /biz/?
In other words, what's the most useful degree for an entrepeneur?
CS or Engeneering is good if you have the grades for it. Waiting to see what others say.
>>1432511
entrepreneur here.
no degree.
if you must insist on wasting time in school, get that MBA.
but seriously, go work at some dude's gas station. Learn how to run a gas station better than anyone else. Manage the gas station. Buy the fucking gas station. Buy more gas stations. Make your millions.
it's not that hard. 99% of entrepreneurs don't invent a damn thing. We make millions being the 37th gas station in town.
>>1432543
But, aren't MBA overrated or something? Wouldn't it be better to specialize in one area (finance)?
Also, how would an MBA help me be a better entrepreneur?
