OK I'm new to trading crypto (but not new to trading). I've got a couple of questions:
firstly - what methods are there to short crypto? I can see that there are some crypto derivatives - i.e. you can spreadbet on BTC/USD at IG and spreadex which would allow you to go short - this isn't ideal really but is one option
but is this possible in the underlying (without going through some convoluted process such as borrowing from a friend etc..)
I mean the exchanges seem to act as brokers and clearers too - do any of them facilitate the lending of BTC in order to build a short position?
secondly - do most exchanges have APIs ?
>>1493787
and just on that second question... do any have matlab APIs?
You can short shitcoins on Poloniex. There is a coin called USDT that is tethered to USD. You could go long on that with leverage at Poloniex. Probably look into the specifics of how the tether coin works though. Most exchanges have APIs, Poloniex does but idk about Matlab.

Is the USA heading for a state of mass Homelessness since jobs are getting scarce and the only jobs left pay pennies?
>>1493639
No. Govt will provide tenders and sauce as long as you vote socialist. Companies will be paid to venerate neetbux for all aspects of life. This is the path the normies have chosen
>>1493639
Yeah man you pretty much hit the nail on the head. We're practically all dead from starvation here.
>>1493639
I absolutely think the endgame for the U.S. is the same place as Venezuela or France because the federal and state and local governments are over their heads in debt they'll get more and more desperate in the future and raise taxes and regulate everything that moves until it stops moving and then regulate it some more just to be sure until there are no businesses left or shut down because they either got overtaxed or overregulated or both. You can already see this happening look around at the governments such as Chicago and Illinois and NJ which are already some of the highest taxed and regulated in the country are calling for Even More taxes and regulations because of their desperate overwhelming debt its no surprise that businesses are fleeing.
Is there an upper limit of money where index funds stop making sense? Multi-millionaires and billionaires don't use these for majority of their holdings.

hedge funds.

You do know that you can spread your money around to many different funds, right? For example sovereign wealth funds manage billions of dollars, and they do fine.

You know how China store their trillions? They don't buy stocks. They hold in gold, different currencies, and bonds. Stocks are a meme.
So what does this exactly mean? Another huge September dip?
Possible crash? Can someone business literate explain this to me?

they're trying to keep people on there toes. so ppl dont get cocky. trying to burn some discipline into the minds of you young ladies, while there is still time.
cuz once u make ur nut, aint not a damn person gonna be able to tell u shit.
and ur gonna wind up right back the fuck where u are now.
the russians have discipline.
the saudis have discipline.
americans are fuckin panty wastes.
my take: the ramp we had in july was due to pricing in additional delays for interest rate hikes. now that there is additional evidence that the fed will hike in september, the market is returning to the previous range. not really a big deal.
How fucked is Vancouvers real estate market after the foreign sales tax?
Just returning to what it was before nothing to see here. Maybe real Canadians who actuallh live in Vancouver can now afford to buy.
>>1493439
Real estate is unaffordable across Canada, and it will remain so. Please welcome the generation that will live in their mothers basement for life
>>1493543
Its only unaffordable in Vancouver and Toronto
Everywhere else its fairly reasonable or cheap especially in Alberta now that oil got fucked

Just quit my job at a top 5 investment firm with nothing else lined up. have enough cash to pay bills for ~ a month. The job i left for is turning out to be pure shit, any tips for getting finance jobs? any companies that are always hiring? have a double major in fin/econ for top 20 school, but only have 2 years experience and its in financial advising. i know most of the people on this board are basement dwelling wannabe day traders but i thought i'd give it a shot. tips? help? I dont need a dream job. just something ~50k yr to pay the bills while i continue my job hunt. t y /biz/

shameless self bump of desperation
If you don't like finance jobs, why are you searching for one?
>>1493165
I'd switch to sales. Easy to get into, always hiring, and can be fun if you are in a good situation. Plus you'll learn a thing or two.
I have rarely heard good things about finance.
Maybe just look for sales positions in finance, payroll, benefits, etc...
Beware commission only. You want a base of 40 - 60, with extra money for commission.
Anyone else here poor? I only have 70$ left after paying rent and utilities and I work 70 hours a week
I basically only have enough money left for eggs, rice and beans each month
Why?
>>1493121
Because everything in ontario is extremely expensive.......... if I would have known I'd be working my whole life away just to live I would have killed myself when I was 15
I'm poor. I earn £14k a year. I've managed to save up £7k in just under a year. I currently rent. I'm saving more than people I know. Just live within your means. You've got two choices; get a better paying job or move to a cheaper place.
I want to move somewhere to work in tech.
Currently in a tech startup in Dublin, looking around for other good cities for tech jobs around the world. Dublin has a decent tech scene, but I'd like go abroad.
Currently have an eye on:
>Berlin
>London
>Austin
>San Francisco
>New York
>Singapore
>Taipei
>Tokyo
>Hong Kong
Anyone know what the tech scene is like in those cities? And what it's like to live there? (e.g. cost of living)
Any other places I should be looking towards?
Also add
>Boston
Austin is awesome, Oracle, Google, facebook,Dell,.... are all here and tech as flees the People's Republic of California for greener pastures.
Great city, live music, <8% niggers and decreasing, young, rich, safe, and the rest of conservative Texas protects you from the commie Liberals that live in Austin.

Seattle is hot again. A lot of the Silicon Valley companies that hadn't had a Seattle presence have opened big Seattle offices recently (Google, Facebook, Apple). Lots of startups too and of course Amazon and Microsoft. Cost of living has been going way up recently, but it is still quite a bit more affordable than most of the places you listed.
What's the difference between financial consulting and financial advising?
Aren't both just giving your clients advice as to how to solve their problems?
>>1493047
No. A financial adviser usually works with individuals, convincing them to give him more money to manage so he can charge them a higher fee or get a referral bonus or some other bs.
In financial consulting, you usually work with a business, helping them to make financial decisions.
What is the difference between a hedge fund and a mutual fund? All I know the hedge funding better and won't lose money.

Which area has the better career prospects (UK) - Risk or Finance?
Currently, I am applying for graduate analyst roles at any banks that are open. Both career prospects are rewarding and appeals to me.
With Finance you have the opportunity to study for CIMA or ACCA, whereas in Risk it varies by what bank you go for since some offer no professional qualification. This seems to be a deal breaker for me - anyone advise??!?
>>1492967
Doesn't risk fall under the umbrella of finance...?
>>1493008
nope, two different roles. Risk covers market/credit and those type of risks.
>>1493011
Oh I see you wrote you're applying to analyst roles... do you mean the difference between a Risk Analyst and a Financial Analyst?
I have a few friends who work in risk and compliance around the NYC area. Over here it is a growing field because of all the new regulations like KYC. Seems like a good path, especially to get in now while it's relatively new. Down the line you may become part of the old boys' club.
I worked as a financial analyst for a while, was a pretty shitty job. Extremely boring and at my firm at least, everyone's spare time was spent studying for the CFA or CAIA. You will never work a 40-hour week, and at the end of the quarter (4 times a year) expect to be coming in on the weekends. the money is good I guess, but not for the hours you have to put in. When you're fat and exhausted at 30, the money won't be that much of a solace from the fact that your job sucks dick.
How can we invest in making the phone free and descentralized in the internet like was done with email?
>>1492869
No. There are a lot of reasons, but the biggest ones:
- Massive expenditures required to implement any wireless tech, meaning carriers call the shots in a lot of cases
- Thousands of patents on virtually every aspect of the technology
- Saturation of the market in terms of hardware, where most consumers evince a desire to have their hands held (i.e. Apple's walled garden).
That said, 3GPP and ETSI are probably as close as we'll ever come to what you're describing.
>>1492878
The problem is, right now calls to advance have to work only on the internet
Calls made from 3g are only slow and expensive because they go through the internet to the phone line
Calls only through the internet is the solution to make 3g viable to make calls
>How can we invest in making the phone free and descentralized
What? Can you re-word that? I don't speak Retardian. Are you talking about service providers?

>kobe beef is expensive
>this would be called schizo-uzi beef
>raise cattle in luxury.
>feed them rice wine and grain
>massage them
>feed them magic mushrooms and fuck with their minds
>put them through awful experiences, make them watch cow porn and other cows being executed
>keep them isolated in a dark room, sensory deprivation
>embarrass them
>sexually
>kill them with an uzi submachine gun
>sell the meat at double the price of kobe beef.
>>1492743
Do you really think people would buy this beef if they found out that this was how it was being produced?
>>1492743
yeah I think its a good idea.
Would probably buy your schizo-uzi beef I could see it being really popular
