Don't call a lawyer, just let her know politely that you're moving out like you love the place but are just moving on with your life and hence moving, she will give you your deposit it, she doesn't want any legal troubles. If you did your part and nothing is legitamately broken she should give it back, the worst i would expect is that she looks real hard for a reason to keep your deposit just make sure there isn't one

I'm in a similar situation but I'm even more screwed because I'm working as a medical secretary for the NHS. Worked my way here from an apprenticeship after I finished school. I've been considering doing a university course lately because even though I enjoy my job I don't want to be here forever.

also, i really don't get your example. you come across a prostitution ring. now you're giving a drug dealer money. that dealer sells drugs to prostitutes. and now the guy who runs the ring should give you a cut? for drugging up his assets and charging money for it???

but seriously, these kinds of businesses are short on all kinds of things, but money is not one of them. what would they even need more money for? there are no investments to save up for in prostitution. it's a service industry.
