Is homeownership worth it? Right now i live in shitty apartments.

I hate the idea of being in debt for 30 years to pay off a house.

But at the same time Im saving about $1k to $1.5K a month and money is just sitting in bank

it would take 8-12 years to save up enough to buy a house in cash, and in those 8-12 years home prices would inflate

it seems like a losing battle either way, where do i move forward from here?

>>
saving up to buy in cash would be stupid considering all that money you are spending on rent could go to your mortgage
>>
Unless you are in a city with absurdly high housing costs and absolutely for some reason cannot live outside it and commute in, getting a house is always better. There's very little instances outside of cities where renting is better because while you lose a little money on the loan, you keep the equity. The only other problem is you cannot sell the house instantly, if that matters to you. You should also know about property taxes in your area but the absolute worst is 2.5% per year. Either way, it's retarded to actually pay only the minimum payment on the loan.
>>
>>1663542
I'd agree with this except for the last part. You should always just pay the minimums on fixed rate debt like mortgages and instead out the extra cash into investments.

> Texas
> Poor

Texas is probably top 5 in wealth in our country anon.

But anyway OP, being a lawyer is not "fun". It pays a lot and that's about the only redeeming feature.

Also criminal law is not where the money is. Most people go with dreams of justice and end up a corporate bitch so they can make $200k+.

The sky is the limit for a dedicated lawyer though. Move up, make partner, etc... A good lawyer can make half a million a year.

How much money do you realistically need to retire early in the United States as a single frugal man? Say I have $500k in some sort of investment portfolio. From what I've read online, 3-4% a year is what is considered to be a safe withdrawal rate, so let's say 3% to be safe or $1250/month. Would that be enough to cover healthcare, rent, food, internet, electricity + utilities, phone, etc... in some town that isn't utter shit? If not, what would you say is the minimum?

>>
>>1663339
you don't need money to retire poor in the US.

you can get free housing, electricity, heat, phone, food stamps, Medicaid.

Or if you really want comfort and privacy just murder someone.
>>
So you're asking us what your living expenses will be? I have no idea. Where do you want to live? What kind of food do you want to eat?

If you already understand investing and how safe withdrawal rate factors into it, then there's nothing /biz/ can help you with. How much you need is up to you.
>>
>>1663339

It all depends on where you live. Most people's biggest expense is their home. The average home price in CA is a lot higher than it is in say GA. You can buy a very nice house for around $100k in some states. If you buy a house for $100k and have simple expenses, you can easily retire for less than $500k. The idea of a safe withdrawal rate is incorrect as you may already know. A secure retirement is highly dependent on the market's performance in your first few years of retirement, so if you are frugal in the early years, you can actually increase your withdrawal rate as time goes on.

Hey /biz/,

20 year old with my own dropshipping/e-commerce business here.
We made $490 today and have been making on average $350 a day for the past month.
We sell men's clothing and accessories if anyone wonders.

Why haven't you started a dropshipping company? It's piss easy and easy bux.
Happy to answer any questions

Nice. I have 1 dropshipping site, and also act as the vendor for some dropshippers.

Is your volume consistent? Fall/winter heats up 1 of my stores but drops another.

What do you do for traffic?
>>
>>1663167
I like that.
We are based out of Australia and we mainly sell summer stuff so during summer (now) we get a lot more traffic and sales. Not too sure about winter and fall yet since we've only been up and running for 3 months.
Probably pivot into selling winter stuff during the cooler seasons.

I use social media influencers, facebook ads and Instagram ads.
Brings in the most Conversions per cost. Ran some google ads but that was mostly for SEO. Got us little traffic and no sales.
>>
>>1663160
what are your payment options?
if you have cc as an option, with which company did you set it, was it hard?

from which site are you dropshipping and did you have to talk to the vendor before doing it or do you just place his items on your site and when people order you buy from him?

Alright, I'm 23, and getting tired of my current job and considered looking into day trading. The only thing is I know absolutely nothing of where to start or if this is even a good idea. As far as starting cash, I think I'm alright (23k in bank, 18k in a roth that I have no issues pulling from it)

Anyone here have experience in this? Is it a dumb idea?

It's very risky, especially if you trading on margin. If your stock drops too far, you won't always be able to ride the wave unlike if you just outright owned it. 90% of day traders lose money in the long run.

If your serious be sure to buy lots of displays for the graphs.
>>
>>1663143
Currently have my pc hooked up to 2 55 inch displays.

Finding out I actually have some family connections with people who are good with this kind of thing and I'll be consulting them on advice in the near future. I was just curious if people here have much experience in this kind of thing.

Just bs'ing with my uncle, he's told me his guy got him about 30k on his stocks in the last 4 months

What can you do with Canadian damaged bank notes?

The bank doesn't accept them because part of the serial number is lost and the Bank of Canada only accepts up to $1000 CAD (I have ~$3000 CAD)
16 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1663067
There only has to be one complete serial number, don't take no guff off a bank and slap a teller upside the head if you must.
>>
>>1663087
Er wait, one complete and one partial otherwise that would be a loophole to free monies.

They say 70% of starting businesses fail within 7 months to 1 year, and that 90% fail within 1 to 2 years.
What (in your opinion) are the factors that most effectively lead to these failures?

Mismanagement? Bad advertising? Bad luck, maybe?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1663016
Probably lack of advertising. Most small businesses don't have enough capital to properly advertise and educate the general populous.
>>
>>1663016
Depends on the business and the field, but honestly, starting a company can be tough. The field your selling to could be saturated, you could have no traffic, you could get hit with a legal complaint or some shit, but mostly its gonna be related to lack of creativity/lack of funding. People are used to going to a certain place, and you didnt draw their interest enough to warrant them giving you money for your product/service. Or you only had $20,000 and it dried up before it paid off.
>>

>People are used to going to a certain place, and you didnt draw their interest enough to warrant them giving you money

Yeah, people get used going to one place and sometimes don't feel comfortable in a different place of the same business type.

I hate to ruin your fantasy but people can do that for free at a library.

You may have not been in one lately but they have changed a lot. Its no longer a quiet space with dusty old books. Every library in my county has an entire floor for computer labs conference rooms hangout area snack vendor etc. And its all free with a library card to log in computers and check out books movies video games etc.

>I hate to ruin your fantasy but people can do that for free at a library.

kek I knew someone would point that out...

People expect something of value when they have to pay a price. And my establishment happily provides that value as there is plenty of demand for it. NEETs who come to my establishment are generally the motivated, temporarily unemployed types thankfully. I seriously doubt those who lock themselves in their room playing vidya and anime 24/7 even have the capacity to be cured.
