How much stock do i need to own to influence / be on the board? I own only 10000 stock in gxy but was just wondering
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
depends on how much they emitted and who else are the owners. if 100% is exchange traded and widespread then holding just a few % can give you controlling influence, since most tiny shareholders never even bother to show up for an annual general meeting. you definitely start to gain tracking above 5% (and beware, between 5 or 10% is usually when you have to publicly declare your ownership by law or by exchange rules).

that is to say, if there is a consortium owning 51% and they are opposed to your plans then even owning 20% can leave you standing in the rain.

also, you can't exactly put yourself on the board easily, but it depends where the company is incorporated and how it is structured.
>>
>>1664083
So how do you go to annual meetings and stuff like that?
>>
>>1664094
first make sure you even own shares with voting rights. it's somewhat frequent that companies have different classes of stock listed (like Google has A-shares with 1 vote per share, unlisted B-shares with 10 votes per share so the founders always keep control and C-shares with no voting right but slightly more profit).

then ask your broker. very often your shares are held collectively with all the other customers of your broker ("street name account") and they have to first separate yours out to register you as a participant (so you can't go around, sell them and duplicate votes). brokers typically ask for a handling fee for registering you, which i've seen go as high as several hundred bucks. plus you have to get to wherever they hold the meeting on your own expense, naturally.

Guys one question: I know that Bloomberg offers those superexpensive hardware terminals with tons of information about stock markets.
Question: Does such a thing exist for commodities?
If so, how much does it cost?
Is it a fixed fee or per information?
Where would someone get information to make reasonable decisions when trading with commodities (read: avoid gambling)?
16 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1664063
wut. bloomberg terminals also have commodities data.
>>
>>1664063
I think it's about $20,000 a month.

You won't have access to one unless it's through work or a well-equipped university (probably restricted to students).

It's not anything you need, or with special, exclusive information. It just makes your life easier by integrating a whole load of data.
You get a live-price feed, news updates + alerts, statistical data and charts compiled in a few seconds, pricing history that can be quickly ported to an Excel sheet.

Come again?
Are you asking for something, that for a fee, spits out surefire investment tips?

Get a stockbroker.

I hate to ask this, but is becoming wealthy or at least independent (financially) enough to hook up with someone who looks this good ?

I see semi-wealthy men with gorgeous women all the time.

Those women clearly don't want them for their personality.

I think it this way: if you can't talk your way into a girl's pants, you can't talk your way into millions.
>>
>>1664028
these type of women are extremely cheap to be honest. if you see an old guy with this type of girl as a wife she is pretty much 100% on prenup to receive 0.01% max. I mean 500$ is more than enough to fuck a bitch that looks this way, i wouldnt pay pic related more than 200. But honestly, "hot" girls are just the same as any other girl, granted the percentage of arrogant cunts is higher among them

All currency is a ponzi scheme, friend.

Africa is exploding, by 2050 there is expected to be an additional 1.3 billion people. Also, it is a little know fact that everyday Africa is getting better due to Chinese investment, but unlike our countries: automation and the IT explosion are unlikely due to poor / degraded or absent infrastructure.

In short we have about 10 years to figure out how to invest in the continent, because there is a lot of money to be made. Personally I am restarting my highschool French in an attempt to get literate and then starting dutch (very similar to Afrikaans but will also allow me to work in Belgium). What are you thinking /biz/?

How hard is it to consistently earn an extra 1-2k a month from part time trading on the stock market?

Way easy if you have 300k to stick in a typical dividend yeilding fund.

Much harder with more risk if you don't.

I tried asking /int/ this but their answers were shitty and meme-tier, a little disappointing to say the least.

So /biz/, as an American thinking about living abroad, which is a better language to learn in the current economic situation;

Cantonese of Japanese?

I can see it going both ways as far as pros and cons go.

Cantonese seems like a really useful language, and I'd love to live and work in Kowloon. I worry about the CCP spreading their influence too thickly in that region of the east asia though. Plus I'm pretty vocally anti-communist, and as a white foreigner I'd be scared of "disappearing" one day.

Japan is a much more western nation, but it's population is declining rapidly, so long term I could see it being a bad move for me as well... plus I'd have to deal with people assuming I'm some fucking otaku-ass weeb.

Which would you recommend /biz?

>Live in shitty communist China or westernized capitalist Japan

Both are shitty choices really, but seeing as you want to be a total weeb and only go to asian countries for some reason, I'd say Japan is better.
>>
>>1664208
Also please answer why it must be an asian country.
I'm curious
>>
Economically China is on a big upswing while Japan is on a slow decline. But that is relatively easy since China is decades behind Japan and catching up.

Both countries are very nationalistic, have strict codes of conduct and in general hate foreigners. I still feel as though you might have a better standing in Japan since they're more used to Westeners, plus they are also much more sexually liberated and have no internet censorship.

Quality of life isn't even a fucking question. China sucks and I don't see that turning around. Just the smog alone would be enough to put me off.

Political prospects are very hard to gauge. From an outsider's point of view it seems to be that sooner or later China's system has to collapse. They can't keep a billion people happy, well-fed and employed with central planning forever. But even after an overthrow, they're going to be a powerhouse (perhaps even more so, if they do it right).

So China is definitely going to be the leading power of the future. It's just a matter of time. But it does have severe disatvantages, as noted above. For the more immediate future - let's see what happens in the next decade. It's going to be interesting, especially with Trump in the White House.

I think it's a personal decision you should make on your own. It's going to be the rest of your life - maybe go with your heart? It's going to suck if you end up forever longing for the other choice. And ultimately - why not learn both? Hanzi = Kanji so at least in writing you'd be able to communicate in both places.

Have you ever been violent at work?

I haven't but one time I was working in a store in highschool and the lights kept going out so when they went out I threw a glass mug across the aisle in the dark and I heard a loud scream. Apparently it hit a girl in the face.

Not really, I'm not a sperg.

Closest I came was carelessness with a knife, I stabbed myself in the finger cutting up a box. But I wasn't angry or purposefully violent, just incompetent.
>>
No, but I do cry pretty often at work.

It sounds silly, but I've always been quick to tears. I underwent therapy to try to fix it, but really I never saw any improvement.

Recently, I was speaking with my HR manager about some personal issues I had in the office, and to my surprise I began tearing up and being unable to speak right in front of her. I was incredibly embarrassed, but she seemed at least understanding because of the subject matter.

Today I made a blunder. I tripped an alarm in the early morning and almost had police dispatched, which required me calling the same manager, waking her up, to fix it, and was chastised for it (over the phone). Immediately, I began to cry. Luckily, no one was there, but I can't help but feel like my tendency to cry is going to end up negatively impacting me in the future.

I work at a downtown hardware store and we are doing bad on sales. Our boss is too busy to ever visit, so he never gets to give us coworkers advice. My manager is very lazy and forgets things a lot due to age. I want to see us succeed but I am not sure how to. Our store is 3 miles away from Lowes and Home Depot.

We sell 1.5k on average when it should be 2k avg. I help customers as much as I can but it just doesn't seem like it helps. Any advice on what I should do?

I used to manage this pizza hut that lost money every other year. Like it would profit $100k one year and lose $150k the next. Overall down.

Eventually I asked the boss what's up, why do we keep the doors open when the thing obviously sucks? Turns out it was a tax write-off for the owner to offset his huge profits from his other stores.

I don't have any advice for your store except maybe sales or coupons. But perhaps you're doing just fine and don't know it. Maybe the boss owns the property and makes his moneh that way? Maybe he intends to lose money? Maybe he rents the building to himself so he's making money you don't know of? Hard to say.

Working for any big chain retail is awful. You're treated like shit by customers, your bosses and by some of your fellow co-workers. Not to mention this is all for minimum wage in most positions.
>>
I worked as an unloader for about a year. They expect you to work unreasonably fast, and we were usually understaffed. We hardly got everything done, but what can you do? I doubt retail anywhere else is any better.

All in all I didn't mind it too much.

Look into Palatin Technologies (PTN) on the NYSE (which you can buy through Robinhood). I'm investing in it on Monday.

They own the rights to the drug PT-141 and could/should be bought out for 5-10 times what you invest by March.
