>>2281791
It seems like a racoon
THATS NOT A DOG ANON XD
>>2281791
Tanuki dogs are so sweet
But. Stop with the bait. It's not even funny desu
I'm going to be a first time dog owner soon and I want to adopt a pup that'll be the easiest to train for a first timer.
Any tips? Can I just adopt an unwanted mutt from the pound and give him love or are those all crazy fucks?
Adopt a middle aged dog from an owner surrender shelter. behaviorally speaking, breed doesn't matter with adult dogs because what you see is largely what you get. If you're trying to gamble on how a puppy will act when they're older aside from the influence of your training, breed is all you can go by.

Pound dogs are good dogs generally. They get socialised and a lot get trained or are already trained in basic commands. If you go the pound route take the dog for a walk and see how he responds to you. Pound dogs are some of the most grateful loyal animals Ive owned. I swear they know where they were at and how close to death they got before you rescued them. For easy dogs find a lower energy breed or mix. Sighthounds are fairly docile and love to nap all day long. The smaller toy breeds can be a pain in the ass if you coddle and spoil them. I find schnauzers and poodles to be very smart, easy to handle and train dogs. Schnauzers tend to be a bit yappy but I've found them to be a great combo with a large guarding type breed. As a kid my grandfather had a miniature schnauzer and a German Shepherd on his property. Anytime something came into the yard the schnauzer would go check it out while the gsd chilled. He had a special bark that would bring the German Shepherd pissed off running. If granddad saw that he knew to go check it out. My friend trained miniature poodles. They were very well behaved animals. Seemed to pick up on commands incredibly quick.
I always end up with a big small combo of dogs.
an adult, stupid "companion breed" from a shelter should do you good
something foofy with bishon or shih tzu or even pug sort of heritage have being nice, calm happy house dogs in their genes
might have some issues with housebreaking (expect this from any shelter do) but shouldn't take much to train
i agree with this anon about sighthounds
>>2281835
but disagree about getting anything smart
smart dogs are not good for first time owners looking for something easy to train
stay away from terriers, shepherds, retrievers and pointers
What do I do in the event of a loose dog? Almost got attacked by one twice now and two more today.gettin sick of these people
>>2281401
Well Roy, if it's a common occurrence you should bring a walking stick or something else to keep distance when out on walks. Dog can't hurt you if it can't get close.
grab a shovel or rake and then beat it to death.
>>2281401
Just carry pepper spray or mace and spray the shit out of it if it gets close.
Unless it's really big, you should be able to scare a dog away easily and if it gets too close stomp its fucking face in.
Is it too late to get a German Shepherd?
I've always thought they were amazing dogs, and my dad and his family always had them growing up and he would tell us stories and show us pictures. I've always wanted one myself.
But is sounds like they're too much of a risk, too much health problems, too much uncertainty and too expensive to get a good one that passes the tests.
Where would I find a good healthy one and how much should I be expecting to pay for it?
side question is there anywhere in the world where they still function as "shepherds"?
>>2281398
Maybe, my aunt got a Yorkie that still functioned as a ratter.
Managed to get like 17 of them in her old storage unit in an afternoon.
just get a chocolate laboratory, they're great dogs
Why are animals so subhuman?
Because its owner feeds it complete garbage it cannot digest. That poo is probally still holding 90% of what its limited nutritional value was in the first place, hence it is seen as food by a fat starving dog.
>>2281350
Why don't we see starving people eating poo then?
>>2281355
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pica_(disorder)
What domestic animal you have to worry less about poop?
What the fuck do you mean? Do you mean which have the smallest shits, least frequent shits, least smelly shits, what? 'Cause they all shit and you almost always have to have a plan for what you do with it afterwards.
>>2281356
I want a pet that doesn't shit.
>they all shit
fucking hell how can people even keep pets in their houses
>>2281359
Rocks don't shit. BONUS: you can put googly eyes and glitter on them.
>local owner surrender shelter puts a 7 month old French Bulldog puppy up for adoption
>immediately drive there
>someone adopted her 10 minutes before I got there
Feels bad man
If it helps, there likely never was such a puppy. Just trying to get people in the door in the hopes that they will fall in love with one of the dogs they actually DO have.
>>2281318
is that the breed that can't reproduce without human assistance?
>>2281357
Thought that was English bull dogs? IIRC Frenchies can still breed just fine, but still have respiratory problems.
That is my dog, Bolinha
>>2281239
i fucking hope not
how does that even happen?
>>2281241
Can anyone tell me all of the bad things and downsides about keeping fennec foxes?
Everything I read just keeps going on about how awesome they are and how they are no worse than a noisy ferret that likes eating bugs.
They scream. They bite. They don't like being touched. They need a lot of space. They're extremely loud. They smell. They're illegal to own
Stop reading special snowflake pet articles written by hipster furries to justify them wanting a pet they shouldn't have. Foxes make bad pets. End of story.
>>2281266
To be fair, if you do some research using google, it's easy to come to the conclusion that they're great pets. The only negative thing I saw about them when I searched was a YouTube channel, everything else was positive and said that they are legal to own in most states.

I'm not in the market for another dog right now, and won't be for probably a few years, but at some point I'd like to get a puppy. I'm looking for breed recommendations.
Here's what I'm looking for:
- medium size; larger dogs are ok but I don't want a huge dog
- intelligent, biddable, eager to work
- loyal, cuddly
- not interested in interacting with strangers (I'm not keen on strangers myself)
- medium to high energy, but a good "off switch" for down time
- I'm partial to herding dogs, but I'm open to others
I'm open to getting a mutt too, but would still like breed recommendations (+ personal experiences, if applicable)
German Shorthaired Pointer ticks points on the list.
Good dog would pointer again.
>>2281148
How are they around cats?
>>2281156
Semi strong prey drive but if they're raised from a puppy they'll be fine with any house animal or family member.
My brother and his girlfriend got a dog, but now it's so big that his girlfriend can't walk it and he's always away on work. What should they do? And the reason she can't walk it is because it pulls.
I don't know, maybe train the damn dog.
>>2281135
Not going to happen. They're too lazy.
>>2281138
It's the owners responsibility to train the animal. If they refuse to do this there is nothing you can do, or /an/ can advise, that can fix lazy, irresponsible behavior.
How do I teach my kitten not to bite when we play? I've tried ignoring her when she does it but the problem persists.
kick it at a wall and trap it under a milk crate for a few hours
>>2281105
Punch it every time it does it. Cats aren't smart enough to be trained, the only thing that makes them learn is pain.
Buy or diy cat teaser toys on wheels, straw or string (don't leave the kitten unsupervised with string toys). Don't use your bare hands, at all. rip a lot of mutts with strays and ferals in their blood are like that
What is their fucking problem?
>>2281047
Follow-up question: why do niggers have such a strong bond with these dogs?
>>2281048
They are nigger dogs...also answers your first question
Nothing...
Well, to be honest, one chewed some of my legos in 1989. Alright, you sold me, exterminate their race.
Can we have a kitten and pupper thread?
Or other baby animals
A puppy is a lot of responsibility. That kitten is too young to handle it.
What is a good food for kittens and then eventually cats? Any brands I should look for or stay away from?
So i use carefresh unscented paper bedding for my hedgehog because he likes it better than pine shavings (and frankly, the pine shavings seem pretty uncomfortable anyway), but he has the habit of peeing and then burying himself under the bedding, which gets little bits of it stuck to his dick, where it dries there. I then have to pull pieces of dried-on bedding off of his tiny hedgehog penis (i usually have to get it wet with a q-tip to even get it off), which is an uncomfortable experience for both of us. Im really afraid that he's going to get some sort of infection, so should i sacrifice comfort for health and go back to wood shavings? or will he be fine? im really on top of checking him multiple times a day to make sure theres none stuck to him, if that makes a difference.
pic related (his name is yojik)
>>2280918
Honestly, when I had a hedgie I just made my own bedding from fleece sheets. Since yours likes to burrow, you could try small slips of fleece in a dig box to satisfy his want to dig. This is just easier, cheaper, and I'm assuming overall a more hygienic solution.
>>2280967
thats actually a really great idea, thanks. im definitely going to do this
>>2281236
No problem! There should be some simple dig box tips and tutorials online. Your little guy is super cute!
