So, I like physics, but I also like finding a job and not living in the streets. This is why I thought that physeng would be a good compromise between the two things. It should allow for a wider array of jobs while still allowing me to study what I love. Where am I wrong? Or where am I right?
In your answer, keep in mind that I live in Italy and I cannot afford getting a degree abroad. It is a bit of a meme, but notoriously most people with a physics degree in our country end up washing dishes. The only thing you may say as an answer to this is "no but Italian physicists are really appreciated all around the world", but something makes me doubt that.
P.s. This thread was originally on sci but they deleted it because they thought it was just about picking a college. It's actually more in general about the subject of PhysEng and whether it's worth taking as a compromise between physics and a stable job

It's really just that both public and private research in Italy suck hard, both because of low funding and general lack of interest in scientific progress. Things are slowly starting to change but not in the least fast enough for one to feel sure with a physics degree

I just found out my boyfriend of four years cheated on me with girls we work with (I got him the job three years ago). I quit my job on the spot, because even if he quits I can't work with those girls. I kicked him out of our house, which I am now stuck paying rent for entirely on my own. I plan on stripping to make ends meet, as I'm at a point in my schooling where I'm on call, and I had a special agreement with the owners of my job that I could work whenever available. Stripping will make me the money I need and have the flexibility of hours that I need.
I'm completely blindsided. As much as he's ruined my life, my instinct is to take him back. I've known people who've gone to couples therapy and come out stronger. Should we try to fix things? If not, please tell me how not to take him back. I'm very sad and lost.

I have no need for relationships or intimacy, i prefer full-time isolation with occasional 'other people time' - similar to the average persons need for 'alone time'
I lack a sense of morality/ethics, not that i don't grasp the concept, i simply don't feel any attachment too the idea of morality or ethics.

I have severe long term substance abuse problems, primarily marijuana, booze and cocaine.
I have severe problems with security regarding compulsive locking of doors, and keeping alert around other people as if i were in a war zone.
I have issues with paranoia, from people on 4chan using software to analyze and track my posts to the people in my everyday life kidnapping me.
I am a generally friendly and polite person.
Aside from occasional outbursts of verbal rage from getting stuck in rush hour traffic while late for work, i'm a very calm and relaxed person - i've been told i have 'dead eyes' and a 'permanent poker-face' by people who have been around me an extended period during a time(s) of stress.
Should i seek mental health assistance? - i don't feel like i am mentally ill what-so-ever.. which is a hallmark of mental illness.
I don't want to ruin my life seeking help, however i don't feel that i am fit to function in our society and it could have some minor blow back at some point (like me ending up homeless or suicide, *nothing outwardly violent*)
What do?

I'm a pharmacist in Australia. Managed to find a job despite the fact that the job market is saturated. What I love is teaching though. I took part in teaching voluntary programs during summer and I really enjoyed them, and I find teaching much more rewarding than my current job as a pharmacist.
Is a career change worth it?
I know that I created this thread before, but I have more things to add. My parents taught for their careers, and they think that it is ridiculous how I am thinking of this career change.
Another question: I have citizenship in another country. I am interested in working there (stayed there in the past and love it). Is it better for me to get a teaching degree there so that I can do a bit of networking there? I want to teach there and see what life is like in a different country. It will be expensive though and means that I have to drop everything.

Teaching is not a job that holds a great future.
You'll get paid a lot less, get yelled at by kids and their parents all day and the joy and passion you feel now will be sapped from you.
You're better off staying where you are and continuing to volunteer.
Who knows maybe in future investment opportunities will present themselves from contacts made and you will create jobs in that country rather than taking one.

There are smart people in the UK, Europe, etc who get top grades in their finals and yet decide to pursue Music, Math, etc instead of Medicine, Law, etc for their undergraduate degrees.
Yes, I understand that being a doctor or lawyer is stressful, but why don't these smart people go for "easy" jobs instead? Being a physiotherapist, nutritionist or actuary is not that stressful. This is certainly the case compared to something such as a researcher where no results = no funding = no income.
Really, all jobs are boring in their own ways. Even if they are interesting at the start, they become dull over time. Why not just pick something which leads to a stable income and learn to love that job?
