I've got a buddy teaching English in Beijing just now. It's just a temporary thing while he figures out what he wants to do/where he wants to be in life. I think his pay is decent for what he does - circa $2000+ a month, while I'm on about double that with the same engineering degree from the same uni, but in England.

I know it was pretty hard to get started. He pretty much had to actually go there before anyone would offer him anything. I think it's to do with a lot of people saying they'll do it, and then the agency sorting out paperwork, before they bail out because it's so far to go.

I know once he got there, he sorted something out within the week. He is a very white, very tall westerner though which helps. And finally, to answer your question, I'm sure the security checks are pretty lax, as he has a few silly things on his record, too. What'd you get done for?

She dropped him about a year ago this April. Just recently, on the cusp of February and January, she got the news that he committed suicide. Apparently losing her as a friend was just the start of when his life began falling a part. His two sisters were killed in a car crash in May. The company he worked for went bankrupt a few weeks after and he lost his job (and he had to move back in with his mother). His dad was allegedly killed in a robbery in August. She was invited to his funeral, but I asked her not to go. I tried convincing her that he was just doing this to manipulate her, that this is what he wants, and she was just being stringed along and played for a fool. This led to more arguments. But this time eventually I was the one who complied, and offered to go with her, for which she ask me not to. I got mad, of course. And we began arguing again. I never thought a dead body would put such a strain on one of my most important relationships.

A few months ago, I woke up one morning to find that she was mysteriously gone. I had a sneaking suspicion where, so I checked her Facebook to find out the time and place of the funeral. I cabbed down there as fast I could and saw her talking with some people. I approached her and asked her to come home with me, telling her that she shouldn't be here. I did not want to let this guy control her like this. And I wanted her to forget him, since there was nothing here for her to get so wrapped up in; and that he was just doing this to get back at her. She and I started arguing even harder. Right then and there in front of everyone else. And I was about ready to flip out and go to an all out war with her. But I left once people threatened to call the cops.

Later that night, when she finally got home, we started arguing the hardest we ever had in our ten-plus years of knowing each other. My god was it ugly. I have never seen her so mad before. And I never been so angry at her myself. But it ended in her not only breaking up with me, but cutting off every means of communication I could have with her. Whatever texts, Facebooks, emails, or calls I send no longer go returned. She's gone. My best friend, the love of my life, for more than ten years, is no longer part of my life. All because she chose some dead asshole over me.

There’s this girl I had a thing a year ago but it did not work out because she tested and I failed miserably. Last semester I was in a class with her but this was one of those big lecture classes so I did not make much of it. She started to wonder about me and stalk me; she would assign a peer from another class to spy me on whether I would ask about her. I ran into her at the end of the semester and she was interested in me. I knew she was into me but I had to let her contact me first or else she would have obviously gone cold.
Fast forward to this semester I have her in my big lecture class again. I ran into her while studying with some buddies and just said hi to her. I maintained my center and did not chase her because then she would know she had me. After 20 min she asked me if we could study together. Since she was initiating I told her it was cool. Immediately after that she said she did not want to do it. I was like cool no biggie. She left. The following week I was walking with my buddy towards the class I have her in and she was walking like 20 meters in front of me. She never took this way so I knew she was doing it because of me. She began to slow down. I was confused on whether she was testing or she wanted me to initiate. I did not make anything out of it and just went inside without actively trying to get her attention. Then one of her friends that I technically used to meet her walked right in front of me in a way for me to like acknowledge him and potentially hang. I was confused whether I was being tested or this was a legitimate attempt at getting my attention. I did not do anything.
After a month I ran into her again. I said hi but she completely ignored me. Am I out? I technically did not do anything wrong. I did not chase. She was interested but she never got to actually contact me directly. Should I have done something that day she was walking? Or would it have been essentially chasing from my part? What do I do from now?
