Probably. I'm in love with a sociopath. I'm an empath. It's the worst god damn thing in the world. I don't think he feels anything at all, unless it's about himself. I, too, envy him. Wish I could walk through life unfeeling, unbothered. Still, I realizes he must miss out on so much. I hurt for him.

Having no feelings has its upsides -- especially in a society that promotes business-like cut-throat attitude. In that regard, yes, sociopaths have it much easier.

But there's so much more to life than just money. There is family. There is friends. There is connection, relationships and love. But for sociopaths none of these are a reality. It's just a giant absence of all of the above. But, the thing is, they don't even care that they don't have any of it. Because there's just nothing there.

Now, imagine someone who has none of this, but has everything he could ask for that money can buy. To the sociopath, that's happiness. For him, a life that is superficial is a life worth living for. He lives for the fleeting feeling of drugs, alcohol, sex -- and hey, may be even breaking some hearts while he's at it. But he takes none of it seriously.

It's tragic for us to watch it, but only because we have feelings and can see the emotional wake that he leaves. But to him, it's life.

So in many regards, if you're superficial, then yes a sociopath is a great life. But for majority that actually have feelings, it's nothing compared to truly genuine human connection.

I would also add, the reason why they can be so successful is precisely because they have no feelings. They make the decisions others don't want to have to make. And because they feel no remorse, they often have a calm, rational way of thinking about problems, so their solutions are perhaps the best -- there's no feelings to disrupt any of it.

It's why we see so many top level executives show sociopathic tendencies -- the same goes for lawyers, politicians, etc. They're the chosen few, so you could say, that have the inability to feel, so they have the ability to lead and make those hard decisions that others would hate making.

No, but I don't know why that matters. It means your friends aren't being nice to you out of pity, but because they value you as a person. You provide them with a utility that they desire and like you for.

How is it not horrifying or bothering realizing that all relationships, platonic or otherwise, boil down to how useful people are as assets?

Not at all clear on why you would want to, but Monster could order you to cease and desist, and sue you if necessary, on the grounds that you are negatively affecting their reputation by suggesting that they are desperate enough to stoop to sponsoring you.

The legal precedent for this actually went the other way. About 50 years ago a potato chip company used a cartoon lion who sounded like Burt Lahr (the lion in Wizard Of Oz) in their commercials. Lahr sued them for making it seem like he was desperate enough to be doing commercial voiceovers and therefore affecting his earning ability - and won.

Could be kids, some business, money, maybe she's waiting for someone and when she's secure with that person, send you flying away.

She wants you around for whatever reason, depending on your state you might be able to bypass it or go through a route.

Just remind her about the papers and explain her, again, you need a lawyer or some kind of legal help if you can't get a lawyer, you need to know the best way to get out of this or it could stretch for a long time.

At your age I was in college, had a car, hit the gym 3hrs a day and lacked a girlfriend. Sounds like your doing great man! Just don't get her knocked up. That could really fuck things up for both of you. Also, open an IRA and start saving while your young. Sounds dumb I know.
