Sure, I'll wrestle this 11 year old kid in the middle of this crappy neighborhood instead of boldly going forth to solve the mystery of the man who killed my father, and confronting him in a 1 on 1 duel to the death to avenge said father.

no time for wrestling i have to collect some capsule toys

After almost two decades of incessant curiosity, I finally finished this fucking game.

I'm not gonna lie- for the first 20+ hours I was growing increasingly bored with it. The story was going at a snail's pace and it seemed like nothing of any significance (both plot and gameplay wise) was happening any time soon.

But holy SHIT; after so many hours of mindless chugging, Chrono Cross finally managed to deliver in ways that are leaps and bounds greater than most JRPG's I have ever played. This game's fucking story is astounding and it expands upon the Chrono universe in ways far greater than I could have ever imagined.

Anyway, this is a CC thread. Post your theories, appreciation, and hatred for the game. Tell the world what Chrono Cross means to you.

Posting for the disgust part. It used to be one of my favorite games but I just hate how the art style and themes are so different from Trigger. Even in a world populated by monsters stuff like a walking straw doll and a circus skeleton are just too fucking bizarre. Out of 50 characters maybe 8 were good. It was like a bloated fighting game roster. Reminds me of a series like Mortal Kombat where out of 70 characters over half are garbage and filler.

Reposting this here for visibility because I need help
I've been trying my hand at text editing certain games for translation/curiosity. I decided to tackle this game first because I couldn't find anything about any undergoing effort to translate this. While making a table for this was simple enough, I simply cannot insert english character tileset into this as I can't even find the japanese characters in any tile viewer for the ROM.

I am only familiar with NES tile editing so I do not know of any compression this game might have. Could anyone more familiar with Gameboy rom hacking take a look at this game's tileset and tell me what the fuck is going on in there?

I'm looking for a HD TV that looks good for retro. I'm thinking of getting a plasma because I've heard great things, but I don't really know what to look for. What should I keep in mind when shopping for plasma for a retro + modern set-up?

If you want one TV that does it all, a Trinitron CRT that accepts HDMI for 1080i/720p as well as component and composite would be best. Unfortunately they're hard to find and weigh about 70 tons each.
>>
>>3841701
I know the one you're talking about, I won't come across that. Most other HD CRTS kind of suck unfortunately. That's why I was hoping plasma was a decent option.

I always thought some of these were neat, since they were prompts that you would never see unless you owned the (in)correct hardware, meaning you may never see it if you only had the correct setup.

Like if you didn't have the super CD card 3 for the PC Engine, it would load a totally diffrent thing on Castlevania Che No Rondo.

So I'm looking for a bit of help.

I've unearthed my Mega Drive/Genesis, model 2 from my parents attic this weekend, tried it out at their place, connected it to a modern TV via RF, everything was working fine.

Today i brought it home with me and connected it to an old CRT tv i have, with the same cable, but it's making a really annoying noise, like a buzz, and no actual sound is played during gameplay.

The image quality is fine, the games i tried all worked fine. Except no sound/buzzing.

From what i gathered, it might be that the damned thing isn't getting enough power, but i don't really have a way to test that at the moment, so I was wondering if anyone has solutions in case it's really not getting enough power, or other reasons why it might be doing this...

The AC adaptor is the original one, by the way and everything seems to be in excellent condition give it's age.

Have you tried using a different coax cable? The other option which you should be using is RCA composite. You can still buy genesis adapters online.
>>
>>3840610
No, i don't think i even have one that i could use.
And this TV doesn't even have RCA, only SCART. Then again, i'm pretty sure i have 2 or 3 RCA to SCART adapters lying arround.

The RF should be fine though since i can watch the TV perfectly, unless there's a problem with the pins that connect to the console themselves i guess.

Sounds like one TV is NTSC and one is PAL

Should I play this or MGS. I am new to the stealth genre and don't care as much for the story but more for fun gameplay.

syphon filter isn't really a true stealth game and mgs defines the genre.

you choose.
>>
I would recommend Deus ex and play through using a stealth playstyle. It's truly an rpg, so there will be other moments but I think it's easier/better intro to stealth than MGS

syphon filter is fun but not because of stealth.

I want to install RetroArch in my 32 bits PC and then went to the lastest stable build for windows and i got pic related. Do i need to download the three archives there or only the bigger one, and if i need the other archives in what order should i install them and where?
I can figure out the rest because everything is very well explained (except this point)

If you're computer was old enough to to not support 64-bit, I don't think you'd be using such a modern OS.
>>
>>3840572
My computer supports 64bits, but i initially used my PC just for work and college so i just instaled windows 7 32bits, here are my PC specs:

Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G3250 @ 3.20GHz
RAM 4GB
AMD Radeon R7 200 Series

I just want to play some PSX and SNES RPGs , but anyway if retroarch have a stable build for 32bits PCs then i don't see the problem. The problem are those three archives and what to do with them.
>>
>I want to install RetroArch

You poor soul. You realize RetroArch is just a shitty frontend to a bunch of third-party emulators. It would be easier to download the individual emulators themselves, which require no installation and already have usable GUIs.

Quite frankly, having everything in a single frontend really isn't as convenient as it sounds when so much of the configuration has to be done through clumsy plaintext files.

RetroArch's only real usefulness is in having all-in-one setups like a Raspberry Pi to plug into your TV set. And that still involves clumsy plaintext configuration files.

I'd say original version because of weird bugs on PC like open mouths and inferior music which has to be modded. There's not really that much difference though overall.
