I'm looking for a HD TV that looks good for retro. I'm thinking of getting a plasma because I've heard great things, but I don't really know what to look for. What should I keep in mind when shopping for plasma for a retro + modern set-up?
If you want one TV that does it all, a Trinitron CRT that accepts HDMI for 1080i/720p as well as component and composite would be best. Unfortunately they're hard to find and weigh about 70 tons each.

I know the one you're talking about, I won't come across that. Most other HD CRTS kind of suck unfortunately. That's why I was hoping plasma was a decent option.

get a crt

but modern games are shit?

I have a 13' PVM, but I'd like to get something bigger for sitting on the couch/split screen.

Retro games are shit too, but some are good?

I got a 720p 42" plasma, its nearly 8 years old. Its great for emulators but not good for actual consoles that I tried. Too many compression artifacts. This one has a 0.001 ms too.
Though burn in can be a problem, but it goes away. The colours where really good at one point but usually seem over saturated now.

Just get a 720p Kuro. There are 480p plasmas available but they all have old generation panels with screen burn and black level issues. The slight upscaling on an 8th gen Pioneer is extremely good and the black levels are better than just about anything, CRTs included.
I picked up a mint 428xd for £80 and it's absolutely fantastic as far as retro-friendly flat panels are concerned.

You're on the right track
Plasma with VGA.
Pioneer and Panasonic are both great.
Be prepared for the high heat plasma sets put off. I have said it before, but I game in a 10ft square room and after a couple hours it is north of 80 degrees Fahrenheit in there. In the winter. In Michigan. With drafty windows.

I've a G10E Pio. It's fucking wonderful, once you get over the deinterlacing artifacts.

Oh fucking hell it's YOU
I'd get a Framemeister because the plasma will probably burn out or in

Plasma image retention is temporary. My 60" does pull as much AC as my convection oven or espresso machine though so put it behind a good UPS.

it's true and definitely something to think about
t. guy that put his 51" samsung plasma (RIP) eight feet from his thermostat
>>3842785
That's it's? VGA is all you're really looking for?

What makes it retro friendly?
>>3842573
Do you have a pic of the artifacts?
>>3842837
I've thought about it, but I think I rather replace my shitty LCD with something with nice colors that's relatively cheap, rather than Framemeister + having to buy another TV.

>What makes it retro friendly?
It has excellent scaling and the full range of legacy inputs
