I'm an American studying to be a teacher and wanting to teach in Japan. America is kind of fucked though, especially with Betsy devos in charge of education and I don't want to spend my whole life paying back loans
Would I be able to transfer to a college in Germany, get a degree in education there, and then get a teaching job in Japan? I know Japan loves hiring Americans, but how do they feel about Americans with German education degrees?
Also, how hard would it be for me to get a part time job on Germany without knowing the language?
Alternatively, half joking, would I be able to finish college in America and then move abroad and teach in other countries all my life and tell American loan companies to go fuck themselves?
>>1237385
What are you talking about? With Devos in charge that means you can actually make real money as a teacher finally at a charter school or unique private schools like Proof School in SF.
Yes you can get almost any degree in Germany for next to nothing if you an afford to support your living costs there
http://www.nbcnews.com/feature/college-game-plan/why-american-students-are-flocking-germany-staying-n515961
Yes you can work there P/T but only for limited hours per week as a non Germany on their visa, but migrant hordes have taken all the shitty jobs that don't req German.
Japan doesn't really care where your degree comes from if you are a native english speaker and the school is recognized, which German schools usually are.
>>1237392
Do you happen to know how many hours I'd be able to work? And what kind of job would I be able to get?
>>1237393
It's all on their foreign student visa site, I think its only 8hrs a week or something but Germany has lower cost of living than most of the US. You can also get perm citizenship or F/T work visa after graduating
How do I get rid of the chip on my shoulder when traveling internationally?
Being from a backwater third world country, I feel like I don't really belong with the Americans, Brits, Aussies, Germans, etc. who are cultured, confident and well-travelled, and aren't amazed with modernity, skyscrapers and all that stuff.
It doesn't help that I can feel their condescension when they look at the locals in Thailand or Korea, for example.
>>1237018
where you from m8? I might not be amazed by skyscrapers since I live in NYC but I am amazed by old buildings and architecture. also who cares what anyone else thinks unless you're trying to bang some girl and even then you'll probably never see them again unless you want to
>>1237018
If you're backpacking, the first world people aren't going to be "cultured" especially not the Australians. They're just out to party.
>>1237018
>Step 1: Don't give a shit what other people think
>Step 2: Be as amazed as you want to be
>Step 3: ????
>Step 4: Profit
In all seriousness, no one knows you when you're traveling, so who gives a shit what they think?
where is this, /trv/ ?

East America
Where the fuck did that desert come from?
Daggerfall?
Hello!
23 years old Norwegian male here.
In the summer / end of July I will be visiting Prague alone for a couple of days and I'm wondering if anyone can share some experiences with that. I see some of you have been visiting Prague with friends and families, but I am wondering how it is to do so alone. Is it even recommended?
After a rough year of working I'm looking forward to spending some time collecting my thoughts. I was also thinking of maybe having a flirt with a local girl - what are Czech girls like? It will be my first trip to Eastern Europe, but I have heard great things about the city.
>>1236550
Oh, Prague has enough history to explore to be totally fine on its own. There is only 3 days of churches, museums, architecture, music and neighborhoods. It really would be a great city alone, though, poring your way through art and giving your own self-guided walking tour. Lots of al fresco dining for people watching.
I really didn't see many Czech people while there. It's quite international and very touristed like that. People have compared it to disney world for being so many nationalities.
>>1236550
Czech girls are very hard to flirt with, if you want to try to flirt with a Czech girl you will have more luck in cesky krumlov, girls in Prague are so used to being hit on by tourist that it is near impossible to pick them up not knowing czech
>>1236550
if you like drum and base, techno, steampunk design and weed cross club is the place to go
karlovny lazne was mediocore imo but might be great to hook up with other tourists
>Finally make it to NYC
>Jesus Christ, why are there so many people?
>Jesus Christ, why are there so many black people?
>Jesus Christ, why are there so many tourists?
>Jesus Christ, why are there so many rats?
>Jesus Christ, the rent is too damn high!
>Jesus Christ, I think I just got stabbed by a Chinaman.
>WHO GETS STABBED BY A CHINAMAN?
I rate your meme 0/10
>>1236530
Pussy cant cut it in NYC, and all of thhe sudden its NYC's fault? Little miswestern bitch stay in what ever 110k populated german town your are from, we do not need you
>>1236530
>>Jesus Christ, the rent is too damn high!
Essential things to do in Oslo?
I'm going for a week.
I've been once before and visited a bunch of viking museums and parks.
>pic related
>>1235495
You can see Oslo in a day and a half; get out of the city and go north, even just day trips.
>>1235606
Where to, Anon?
My brother cohabits with his Norwegian gf but is the kind to play WoW rather than get out
>>1235495
Nothing. There's nothing.
Amerifat here.
I'm 20 and going to room with my friend who is 21 at a hotel for a tournament. You need to be at least 21 to book this hotel. Can I provide my credit card and register with his information? The idiot doesn't have a credit card.
Ask them, duh
probably not. the name on the card and the person registering generally have to match to make sure people aren't using stolen cards.
>>1237286
just tell the retard to apply for a card with no annual fee.
>Americans will never know the joy of cheap travel to some of the greatest cities in the world
That must really suck
>>1237120
But what if Europe is dead last on my list of places I'd like to explore? Asia, South America, Africa, the Middle East, India, all are or seem more interesting than anywhere in Europe.
Even Australia has the crazy only here animals.
>>1237123
>But what if Europe is dead last on my list of places I'd like to explore?
Then that's your prerogative, doesn't change the fact that cheap travel isn't really a thing there.
Additionally with my 28 days mandatory paid holiday I can fit in lots of 4/5 night get aways if I plan them around weekends
I don't like Europe though.
How much is London to Japan?
Fellow \trv\elers i really need some help regarding substancial planing for a roadtrip this summer
(and yes, I used google..)
The Plan:
Buying a fucking cheap car, which is on the brink of death, but, like i already mentioned, fucking cheap
Driving to Turkey/Georgia/Azerbaijan/Armenia (preferably azerbaijan if the car doesnt fuck us over and we dont take to much time going there)
Getting rid of the car and flying back home
Timeframe: 3-4weeks
The problem:
I cant find any Info regarding:
1. Selling your car in Turkey/Georgia/Azerbaijan/Armenia - what do I have to comply to to be allowed to leave the country w\o my car?
2. What the fuck happens if you for example have an engine failure in those countrys? Go to police, get some kind of paper, which tells your car is fucked and thats it? Or a way more anoying and time consuming process?
We even consider just fucking our car up at the end destination, calling police, getting through some paperwork and then fly home.
I would really appreciate any info!
tldr: How to get rid of my car in Turkey/Georgia/Azerbaijan/Armenia to be allowed to leave the country again?
>>1237040
>and yes, I used google..
When your pic shows you want to drive from Armenia to Azerbaijan, that sounds like a lie.
And besides, petrol prices in Turkey are astronomical even for Europeans.
>>1237055
I didnt car much what google plotted. We will make our rute on the go.
Petrol prices are more or less the same where i am coming from...
http://www.globalpetrolprices.com/gasoline_prices/
Nevertheless:
I was aware of the Turkey<->Armenia problem, but not of the Armenia<->Azerb problem...you say i cant cross borders from Armenia to Azerb?
Buses in Turkey are really excellent. Cheap, comfortable and there are plenty.
Since months ago I've started several threads about going to Ukraine. In all of them some guys suggested Chernivtsi.
Well, I planned my trip doing a tour in Ukraine, passing by Kiev, Odessa, Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi and Lvov.
Not one of those fuckers who suggested that THERE IS ANOTHER CHERNIVTSI AT VINNYTSIA OBLAST, and that the retarded Anon here should take care in asking the cashier to say "Chernivtsi OBLAST, not Chernivtsi RAION". Consequence: I took the wrong bus, I had to call my embassy and now I'm depending on the Goodwill of the bus station salesman Sasha.
To that Polish/Ukrainian Anon who suggested me Chernivtsi: fuck you, and fuck you big.
Are you one of those people who book a flight to Sydney, only to find yourself in Sydney, Nova Scotia? I mean, I looked it up, and the village you're in has a population of some 2800 people. The Anon who suggested the other Chernivtsi, pop. 300,000, might not even know this village exists. I can see how your situation is pretty shitty right now, but you can't blame others for you not managing to get on the right bus.
u dumb lol
>Blindly following a anonymous persons advice from a website widely known to be full of fuckwits
>getting mad when it wasnt sound advice
backpacking through europe this summer, how likely am i to get fined for carrying a knife? ill take the clip off and keep it hidden in my jacket pocket. dont care if it gets confiscated, its only 20$.
its a flip knife so one handed open for german/other laws
>>1236602
as likely as it is for you to anger/scare the police. Otherwise they shouldn't care. But if they search you they'll order you to put it inside your backpack
>>1236603
if they ask if i have a weapon just show them then or what?
im a nice wholesome white canadian
Keep it in your backpack, tough guy. There's no reason to keep a knife on you while backpacking through Europe. You might fall off your chair while you're drunk in Prague or high in Amsterdam and hurt yourself.
In the next few days I'm making the crossing at Aranyaprathet, and I'm really struggeling to work it out
how long does it take to get from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet by bus in the morning?
can I avoid staying in poi pet in cambodia?
where the fuck does a non-american get US dollars in bangkok without getting ripped off; it's two currency conversions compounded at very unfavorable rates.
what is the actual process at the border, I hear it's a nightmare but a lot the information I find is badly outdated
where do you board the truck to the border
how do you ensure you arn't scammed (or not too badly)
I hear they don't stamp your passport properly, demand more than the official rate under a number of pretenses, demand you board a expensive chartered bus, and any number of other scams
>>1236419
heard the thai cambodian border is really hectic and they'll try to overcharge you for the cambodian visa, i don't know because i crossed to cambodia from laos which was a smooth ride just paid a dude like 3 dollars and he did all the visa shit, the immigration didn't even see me, i crossed the country without a passport with me.
As for the dollar situation your best bet is to exchange your bahts in cambodia for dollars or rials, both currencies are interchangable and literally everyone uses dollars for some reason in cambodia
>>1236419
when I was travelling, the wikivoyage article turned out to be pretty up to date. Not sure about now.
Anyway, anything that pretends to be a Cambodian visa before you were stamped out of Thailand is a scam.
In Cambodia, if there's free bus to the bus station, just walk about 800 meteres down the road, the bus/shared taxi station is there.
there's really no need to stay in poi pet
>>1236489
> if there's free bus
if there's NO free bus
I`m planning to visit Amsterdam for a weekend in the upcoming month. What's the best budget hotel/hostel to stay overnight?
just any $20 hostel around the center. decide beforehand what type of experience you want and either stay in or avoid the red light district
I work in Amsterdam tourism, AMA
but dont know about hostels, thats not my business
>>1236709
so what do you do?

*Note about the JR Pass*
Many people ask about whether or not the JR Rail Pass is worth it. It depends on your itinerary.
Plug your itinerary into Hyperdia to determine ticket costs, then compare to the below JR Pass options:
>7 day Pass: 29,110¥
>14 day Pass: 46,390¥
>21 day Pass: 59,350¥
Please check the /trv/ sticky before asking questions. It's filled with links to great resources, many of them specific to Japan travel.
Please refer to the old thread while it's still up: >>1232386
Is it easy to meet people for a night out in Tokyo if I'm alone?
I don't want to be that one weird guy who just lurks around.
is akihabara really that great?
>>1235576
It's pretty amazing seeing such a high concentration of anime goods in a single store, let alone a single location
But in terms of actually buying stuff it's not that great unless you go to the smaller or second hand stores
>I love to travel
I think we can all agree that by this point this has become a meme
So when people ask you what you enjoy and you truly are passionate about travelling (not "I went to Paris and exclusively went to the tourist sites xD") what do you guys say?
What do you do, when your hobby has become a cliche?
>pic related
The kind of shit I see popping up on Facebook and such
>>1235481
>what do you guys say?
I say I'm interested in the Soviet Union, and checking out places that used to be a part of it. It avoids having to say "travelling" quite nicely.
>>1235481
Dude fuck that mainstream garbage.
I love travelling and no one can ever ruin that for me. I work hard to be able to travel a few times every year.
I enjoy getting lost in foreign places. Experiencing different cultures..women..food...architecture..sights...nature etc.
>>1235482
That's a pretty good one actually
