How do I get rid of the chip on my shoulder when traveling internationally?
Being from a backwater third world country, I feel like I don't really belong with the Americans, Brits, Aussies, Germans, etc. who are cultured, confident and well-travelled, and aren't amazed with modernity, skyscrapers and all that stuff.
It doesn't help that I can feel their condescension when they look at the locals in Thailand or Korea, for example.

where you from m8? I might not be amazed by skyscrapers since I live in NYC but I am amazed by old buildings and architecture. also who cares what anyone else thinks unless you're trying to bang some girl and even then you'll probably never see them again unless you want to

If you're backpacking, the first world people aren't going to be "cultured" especially not the Australians. They're just out to party.

>Step 1: Don't give a shit what other people think
>Step 2: Be as amazed as you want to be
>Step 3: ????
>Step 4: Profit
In all seriousness, no one knows you when you're traveling, so who gives a shit what they think?

If anything third world backpackers are far more cultured than their first world peers. I guess financial accessibility means more Chads decide to go on a trip.
dude I'm from Scandinavia and seeing those futuristic skyscrapers when going to China next year is literally one of the experiences that I'm looking forward to the most. We don't have any skyscrapers
Also, if those "cultured and mannered" Westerners that you're talking about are a bunch of snobby real travellers, you're not missing out on much
