Honestly, I wouldn't. It never works out. The most I would do is re-fluff.

Simply put, game systems are designed to fit the needs of games and real life systems aren't. Trying to mix the two is never really going to work.

For real though, run him some redbox, keep the ethos of 'Yes, but...' in mind, take him as far as you can on DnD. Then introduce him to some other system as his interest wanes, to keep him hooked. Cross-train him early, so he knows there's no One True System.

Most of this sounds awful! I'm glad I bought into this menagerie of nurglings and tzeentch cultists.

Big cons are overwhelming at first. Make a plan in advance for what you want to do, but don't schedule yourself solid. Give yourself some time to just wander around and talk to people/see stuff.

You can't remember everything. If you see a booth or demo that looks cool, but don't have time to check it out, take a photo with your phone, preferably with a company name or web address in the shot so you can look it up on the internet later.
Follow the 3,2,1 rule. Every 24 hours should include:
3 hours of sleep (minimum)
2 meals
1 shower

Use hand sanitizer and good hygiene to prevent catching Con crud.

Grappling doesn't stop enemies from attacking. You have nothing to complain about there.
Level disparity between players is dumb, difficulty balancing encounters like this being one such reason.
Fighting a monster built like a PC should've been an easy fight for you, assuming you could get past the sniping. Your DM doesn't seem to understand monster design.
