In a magical world where one of the most powerful magic objects in the world is a sword that is longer and lighter than it looks, (the rest is just invisible and weighs nothing) what would be a good magic ability for magic rings that are "cut from the same cloth" as the sword to give to my 4 players? (One to each player)
I'm open to any ideas. I have a few myself but mine are all very similar and I'm afraid i'm getting tunnel vision.
>>54373520
If that's one of the most powerful magic swords I can't help but think that regardless of what you come up with, players will be better off selling 99% of these items to collectors rather than using 'em themselves
>>54373614
The items are seen as a proof of the existence of gods and their will manifest on Earth. Finding or being in posession of one of the objects could be seen as Manifest Destiny and I doubt players will give up an item that is seen as that important.

It's still pretty niche and unimpressive.
They're strong and tough, but not unbeatable. I think they are definitely worth it in 8e.
Found the power gamer.
They're pretty good i guess. Still personally prefer nids.
This is what Egyptian dragons looked like

No, it look like this.

That's a terrible Apep.
Post awesome one-liners, epic finishing moves, heroic moments, and general badassery. I'll start.
>DM'ing for some friends
>Party has just escaped an episodic villain's base, got a pretty good look at it on their way out
>A naturally made underground cavern, converted to a militaristic base, with the only exits being an elevator shaft (which they destroyed on their way out) and a hole in the ceiling with some rocky cliffs leading to it
>Party staying at a dwarven stronghold, convince leader to lend some manpower (the dwarves had been plagued by baddies before)
>Trying to think of how to fight them
>The thief gets an idea
>Asks dwarven leader for their best miners
>Leader raises an eyebrow and asks why
>"Their base is underground, right below the surface. We take our army, take these miners, and dig out the roof above them. Then they're forced to make a choice. Either they get the hell out of their hole, and we have a fair fight on our hands, or they call our bluff, and hold their positions..."
>Fucker looks right at me with a shit-eating grin
>"Rocks fall."
>"Everyone dies."
>>54373190
>The time has come
>The dwarves have dug out all but a thin layer of the ceiling out
>The baddies appear to have called the bluff
>Dwarven leader made it clear none of his miners were to be injured
>Party tries to think of how to drop the roof on them
>Cleric steps up, knows what he has to do
>Stands atop the thin rock and casts a spell to boost his strength to fuckyou levels
>Says one final prayer to his god, in the form of a war cry
>Slams his fist down on the stone
>Ceiling shatters
>1500 soldiers dead
>1500 plus one man with the wrath of his god beside him
>Legends now sing of the man who slew a thousand men with a single blow
>And the party knows it to be true
Building an oceanic "Ecosystem Crawler" after reading way too much Dungeon Meshi and my players expressed interest in a seafaring campaign and I'm looking for something good to inspire me. Anyone have any really worthwhile documentariez that dive right into stuff like this?
Anything will do, it's going to be an islandhopper so I can shift ecosystems around, but ocean and jungle stuff is a bonus.

BBC Blue Planet and the Planet Earth series are on my list. Also considering the Disney Nature series if they're not too wholesome.(want some real life and death interaction with nature, not a heartwarming story of bears who cuddle)
Bump of interest.
Raven Guard are finally stronk! Victorus aut Mortis motherfuckers!

How often do natural disasters come up in your games? Does a famine ever cause wise spread unrest and death, or a volcanic activity mass exodus? What about a tidal wave just wiping out a major coastal city?
At best usually some "omen" of a larger probably. I've never made a game that's specifically about making a living during a plague or after a major earthquake or whatever

Look at "background events" tables from RoleMaster, as those give yearly/monthly events to help flesh out your setting and can be adapted to other genres.
I am preparing to run a game for some friends of mine based in the warcraft universe. This is going to be my first time running a game and I also don't have a ton of experience playing in one. So I am unsure what the best system to use would be. Right now I am leaning towards d&d 4th. It seems the most mmo/miniatures focused and I think it would help to keep their attention and it would be easiest for them to relate to.
Does that seem like a horrible idea?
>>54372961
Bump for any sort of advice or tips.
Is this bait?
Because it looks like pic related,
>>54372961
Nope, it is pretty good for that stuff. It's also very DM friendly. There's a general thread up at >>54313634
You could try Strike! for something really simple, but mechanically similar, but it's a bit more of a bitch to run, on account of it being amateur as shit, and you have to fiddle with a lot of genre staples that 4e has (stats, magic item troves, etc.), but Strike! doesn't.

Give me some ideas to work with, more catagories, changes you think should be made with the stuff i already made.
my lab rat skaven
haha (yes)
>Be me
>First ever tabletop campaign (Pathfinder)
>DM forces me to take it slow and suggests I play a human fighter
>That's boring, but whatever.
>Roll for stats
>They're consistently shit
>DM lets me keep re-rolling
>Charisma is the highest stat
>Strength and Constitution are okay at best, but nowhere near optimal
>Fuck it. This is taking too long anyways
>Go with it
>Decide to make a character around the stats
>Get inspo from that one character from Shrek 2
>Prince Charming
>I basically play as Prince Charming
>Put some spare skill points into skills like bluff and diplomacy just in case
>In combat
>Attack enemy
>Fails
>This would happen CONSTANTLY
>Use Bluff
>Convince my enemies into waiting, and letting me get back on my feet
>Any time this succeeded, the DM allowed me to attack a second time
>Mfw I was undefeated because all my enemies pitied me.
>>54372228
That is an inspiring display of adaptability. Sounds like a lot of fun to play.
>>54373245
Thanks. Campaign ended kinda short due to outside issues affecting group availability. Haven't had a campaign since, but it was a lot of fun. Would play again.
>>54372228
Reminds me of a when I played with a wizard who had shit intelligence but great charisma. Useless in combat but great at bartering. Eventually became an economic trading campaign because of this.
You are being hunted by the imperial army and while on the run you are offered shelter by a relative. While you and your party however are on your rooms you hear the sound of sharpening plus a voice saying 'should we kill or tie them first?'
What do you do next?
When I make a character, I usually have one rule: No matter what, they accept the party. Doesn't matter if they hate them etc. Some kind of code of honor, things like that. I find it really annoying when someone decides to mess with their own party, and blame it on playing their character: You made the character. You chose to bring your character to the table, with their values etc. I'll still pull them out of hell, their knife sticking in my back.
Is this stupid? Am I stupid for expecting people to make characters like this? I get that not everyone wants to be a paragon, but all I expect is for my party members to have my back in tight spot, regardless of the situation.
When characters don't follow this standard, you get shit like "My character wouldn't care about this! I leave" and bullshit ensues.
It's a party adventure, stick the fuck together. You're all on the same team.
>Is this stupid? Am I stupid for expecting people to make characters like this?
No you're not. I view it the same way. When I'm GMing I expect all characters to have some reason why they at least tolerate the rest of party. Why they choose to stay with them.
If a PC ever gets to the point where they don't have a reason to remain with the party, I expect the player to roleplay the character and have the PC leave. Then the player rolls up a new character.
>>54374434
>When characters don't follow this standard, you get shit like "My character wouldn't care about this! I leave" and bullshit ensues.
I view that as a good outcome when a PC doesn't have a good reason to stay or a group doesn't have a good reason to keep the PC.
The alternative is a group that never thinks about the reason. So you get bullshit like a PC who keeps threatening and/or stealing from the rest of the party, who still keep bringing him along.

>"My character wouldn't care about this! I leave!"
Anyone here play Scythe?
i want to play with the max 8 people
If you have Tabletop Sim and want to play a long game of scythe then put your steam account in.
Also how do you feel about the game and the Art. The art to me is the best any board game has. its got that oil painting WW1 feel to it and the paint makes every setting have a not to much but not too little steampunk vibe. Like early steampunk.
>if you have any pics of other WW1 fantasy painting, lay em on me
>>54371279
The art is literally all it has going for it anon.
>>54371301
whys that? i enjoy the game
If it was a wargame I'd like it more but... it's not so really all I care about is the art and vidya coming out for it.
Hay /tg/ I am new to Warhammer not the lord but actually playing 40k and was hopeing you could recommend a starting army, my pal plays Tau if that's any help.
I don't envy you to be honest, I play with friends and even when not cheesing in the slightest Tau are usually not fun to play against.
Depending on how competitive you guys are it's always a good idea to start with a force that you're actually interested in. Granted playing guard is not like playing dark eldar.
I'm a pretty competitive guy and he is to, it makes sense that he would play Tau. He is a giant dingus.
>>54371109
Go and read a bit about the different armies, what the look like, how they play etcetera. Or you could tell us what play styles you're drawn too we could make suggestions.
