I've got a question for anyone who's got experience with long term nation builders. How do you stop coalitions from becoming too powerful? My current game is having issues with people all allying up and stomping anyone else who acts aggressively. One player just wanted to have a little war with his neighbor and literally, 1/4 of the major powers of the world plus some minor nations showed up and flattened him for daring to disturb the peace. It happened before this once between two coalitions which was cool. They fought for 30 in game years and then made peace when most of the nations involved became weary of war.

This isn't the modern era, this is fantasy, how do I stop people from enforcing a UN "no wars allowed" policy? How do I break up gigantic alliance blocks without an arbitrary gamified limit to alliances?

Well I'm going to be the first one to say it because I have a bit of experience with that.

>Collusion
>Self-Serving aristocrats and politicians
>Degeneracy
>Bribery
>Extortion
>Drugs
>Blackmailing
>Crime
>Conspiracies

All of this at your disposal

Either talk to them and inform them that they are not to meddle in the affairs of non-members.

Or just try and encourage others members to form coalitions of there own.

On a scale from 1 to George Michael, how gay would it be to play in a setting where the male birthrate is so low as to push women into roles of war and labor and power and whatnot, whilst the men are generally kept at home and protected as to preserve birthing potential.

It's just your amazon musclegirl magic realm, isn't it.

No that's a separate one. That one is kept next to my other fetish realms.

This one is an actual question in terms of a world that actually makes sense, and how it functions.

That's not gay, that's femboi. Which is much worse.

Considering the prevalence of large predators, the greater depth of precious metals, and the difficulty of constructing structures, would insect-sized humanoids be able to form large civilizations? Would they be able to create a global civilization? What if they were mouse sized?

The stereotypical D&D image of a bard is some spoony minstrel playing an instrument in the heat of combat, but has any D&D edition ever given a mechanical reason to use a *MUNDANE* instrument in combat, as opposed to just using voice and/or dancework?

D&D 3.X's Song and Silence and Complete Adventurer had mechanical benefits for masterwork instruments of certain types, but apart from those, does it really take specific magic items to justify such a stereotypical image?

>>
>>54414656
Not really.
You can get a +2 on checks in 3.pf by using a masterwork instrument, and PF requires a couple of barely useful bard things use an instrument. (Note that technically you can buy a masterwork rool of Perform: Sing or any other instrumentless perform tool if you really need that +2.)
Aside from that, you're far better off not having an instrument. You free up one or more hands, don't risk it being destroyed, and don't risk being disarmed.
>>
>>54414656
Oddly enough, I think 5e does this, though it's more for the fact that a Bard has to use a physical Instrument as a focus for casting spells, and can't use their voice or dancing.

They start with proficiency in 3 different instruments for free, so you do have some variety and could probably justify some pretty easy stuff like a tambourine if you wanted to be a dancer or singer more primarily, but it does balance them out with other classes that will need to take up at least one hand with their casting implement instead of using a sword and shield while casting freely. Otherwise using their voice would be quite overpowered, though you could still manage it by only using spells with Verbal components.

Still, that does mean there is a tradeoff to using voice alone versus an instrument.

Should just be a bugler or drum major. Until the advent of radio, they played a crucial role to relay orders in battles.

As in during the game? What a cunt nugget. If he did it afterwards, that's different, though.

Have you read through Robin's Laws of Good Gamemastering? It can help. A lot of GMing is in the attitude and the ability to roll with the blows, but RLoGG can be a pretty useful first step.
Another bit of advice is read through John Wick's "Play Dirty," and then do the exact opposite of what that asshat tells you to do.

>Do you think The Professor lets tranny April assfuck him?

*Citation needed.

Salvation war demons are 8 ft tall, have extra thick hides, regeneration and wear armour. Some anon made a spot on discription of the baldricks as being bears wearing extra thick crocodile hides who regenerate. They certainly are not pushovers and they have a huge army.

The military force is stated to be 6666 legions of 6666 demons each, but only 999 are the standing army, with even that having a lot of reservists and requiring weeks to be combat ready.

Which comes out to them having a standing force of 44,435,556 Soldiers not counting their various monsters and cavelry mounts.

But granted they "only" have 6,659,334 for the standing military.

Hey /tg/!

I got a premise for a, but I'm stuck on that bastard of a problem of player motivation. Here's the idea.

Some all powerful being (A giant in this case) takes over a weakened impoverished country and demands a huge ransom for its release. The players are four such individuals who are allowed to leave the kingdom to earn money however they can to buy back their home.

It's a pretty open ended game but not quite sandbox since all the players have the same goal but how they go about it is up to them. How do I keep players from simply abandoning the kingdom and doing their own thing without railroading them with a family or dropping hired goons on them when they start to stray. How do I make them WANT to pay the giant to free their home?

>all powerful being
>demands money
wat

>Giant agreed to a ransom to get them to quit bothering him
>doesn't want them to return
>sends kill squads after them
>players eventually realize that they are gathering treasure for a giant who will seize it and refuse to leave
>players skill up on the kill squads and advance in their own ways
>eventually the squads become deadlier
>drop hints that they must battle the not so all powerful giant to survive
>>
>>54412770
All powerful isn't the right word. The giant strong enough where fighting is the hardest way possible to deal with it.

I should've also mentioned that it's not D&D, so it could be a non-combat campaign. So no ending in a huge climactic battle. It can end that way, but again, that's the hardest possible way to deal with it.
>>
>>54412069
Don't make it a giant

Magic works a lot better than physical force to make pcs comply with the narrative

Maybe a Djinn that has the physical country in a bottle

or some neoclassical cult that's using the situation to literally worship the economy

as for motivation specifically ask the players to write a most precious thing into their backstories without hinting you'll be ransoming it
hard to ignore treasure you create for yourself

Lets hear your scariest prophecies!

And lo, did I swim low under the water, but the moon stilled the waters, and the snakes did not strike me. I arose towards the moon, and it became as a boil of wyrms, and fell down upon the sea.

But I went to a place of fire and battle, and there, they could not follow me.

Darius elevates Daniel to high office, exciting the jealousy of other officials. Knowing of Daniel's devotion to his God, his enemies trick the king into issuing an edict forbidding worship of any other god or man for a 30-day period. Daniel continues to pray three times a day to God towards Jerusalem; he is accused and King Darius, forced by his own decree, throws Daniel into the lions' den. But God shuts up the mouths of the lions, and the next morning Darius rejoices to find him unharmed. The king casts Daniel's accusers into the lions' pit together with their wives and children to be instantly devoured, while he himself acknowledges Daniel's God as he whose kingdom shall never be destroyed.
