Oi /n/ig /n/ogs! What are ya thoughts on the Drummond M7?
Aesthetically pleasing, though not my favorite 0-4-4. That would be the LNER G5, I think there's like a project to make a new build one.
>>1082700
You're right, there is a new G5 being built and from what I can recall the boiler has been finished.
>>1082729
Nice! Can't wait to finally see it running. I know they've been working on it for years, must be nearly done by now...
What do you /n/egroids think of the 14XXs? Do you like them? Because I sure do.
Who wouldn't like a little 0-6-0 tank locomotive?
>>1080135
The 14XX is not an 0-6-0, infact it's an 0-4-2.
>>1080141
Oh yes, so it is. I'm confusing it with the 15xx
What do you /n/iggers think of the class 73
Everything the Southern designed is ugly shit. Even after being re-engineered, the 73/9 is still ugly.
I think they're very nice, OP.
Everyone involved with the art work from scribbles to approval ought to be shot. Then everyone in their family bloodline ought to be hunted down and shot.
Is it true that pros reach 40mph sprinting on flats with no tailwind, no vehicle to draft, and no other advantages? If so, how the fuck? That's over 64 km/h. Most I reach on flats with no tailwind is high 40s km/h.
>>1077441
Well guess what, you're not a pro
>>1077441
They can do it because going fast is their job.
>>1077441
isn't it weird how people with no full time employment whos only goal in life is to go fast on a bicycle can go faster on a bicycle than people with other shit to do?
which type of bikes do you find to be /fa/?
My personal favorites are the beach cruisers
Me and my chopper bike in 2008. Still have it and still ride it from time to time. Taken the edgy flame stickers off tho.
It's pretty chill
>>1074838
>>1074837
Both bikes are shit guys.
look at that cannondale track

Do you buy aliexpress or other chinkshit accessories for your bike, /n/?
I bought a USB-rechargeable tail light
I usually avoid chink sites though since shipping takes like two fucking months
better than buying British shit like Merlin where shipping cost is $200 to USA
>>1082715
Yeah that's the problem with chink stuff but if it is not time critical then it might be a good idea. I haven't bought anything bike related from aliexpress yet but for other electronics it was usually fine as long as you don't need anything high quality. I've just bought one jersey for 10 euros, curious to see what sort of quality I'll be getting.
Can electric bikes actually keep up with traffic?
no you idiot they aren't supposed to replace a ferrari
>>1081540
You can't keep up with city traffic already?...
>>1081540
If the bike is intended for road use the assist is governed to 20 mph in most jurisdictions. There are some faster ones that use a loophole by indicating they are not intended for use on the road. And some really fast ones from builders that don't give a fuck about laws.
I don't need a car, I live in the city.
>>1082160
Probably
>>1082160
>I don't need a car, I live in the city.
This is a city. You don't need a car in it.
West Coast urban sprawl is not a city. It's just a hyperdense suburban clusterfuck
Everything is within cycling distance and we have great infrastructure here. I don't need it for the city but I do own a car for the longer trips or carrying larger stuff. Owning a car is less expansive than using public transport.
Not the most lighthearted thread to make I know but sadly they do happen.
One terrible example was in Quintinshill back in May 1915 when 5 trains, one being a Scottish troop train crashed into a local passenger train. Then the gas lamps the trains to burst into flames. Killing 226 people in total.
More info here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quintinshill_rail_disaster

Quit talking like a soft faggot. Post more wrecks. Let's get a trainwreckd thread.

FUKN REKT'D M9
I actually met the daughter of the one of the conductors on this.
She is the nurse at an optometrist's office.

>cyclist girl I've been talking to says she's never done a 100km and would be really tired after it
>I call her a 5 year old fred on a single speed mountain bike
D-do you think she still likes me?
>not inviting her to ride with you
>not having hot, steamy shower sex with her after the ride
>>1080865
I already have cycled with her and I will again soon.
>>1080855
She isn't much of a cyclist if she hasn't done 100km. I would say any bicycle hobbyist will do 160km (100miles) within one year of that being their hobby. Sorry.
ITT: Post and discuss indoor, subterranean, elevated pedestrian walkways in your city.
This is the map of the Toronto Path system which connects all the buildings in the financial district as well as public transit hubs and shopping centres. It's mostly underground with some elevated components
PATH is nice during the winter
>>1079126
Sounds like they're already doing the design work for future cities on Mars.
>>1079135
Or in the rain, or in the heat in the summer
I use it all the time getting to work from union
Do you think we will ever see a short hop point to point airliners become the norm again? Here in Texas and other larger states traveling by air is difficult due to the prolonged waits caused by the hub and spoke method. Southwest still does point to point, part of the reason it is so popular in the Southern and western states.
>>1077644
Maybe once hybrid electric regional become a thing.
What airline is this?
>>1077672
Greyhound Air. Canadian airline that only existed for 1 year from 1996-1997.
Sprint finish edition
Previous thread (currently on auto-sage): >>1051703
IN THIS THREAD, we discuss:
* Training for bike racing (road, MTB, track)
* Bike racing tactics and strategy
* Bike handling skills relating to racing (pacelining, maneuvering within the pack, blocking, when to attack, etc)
* Your races
* Pro races
* Equipment choices (including power meters, heart rate monitors, etc)
* Anything and everything relating to bicycle racing and training
When discussing power, post W/kg (watts per kilogram), not just watts.
If you're new to bike racing and need to get started, you can start with The Cyclists Training Bible (aka CTB); there's a copy of 3rd Edition online you can peruse:
http://www.lronman.ru/docs/CyclistBible3.pdf (please buy a copy if you like it).
If you're interested in Power Meters for your bike, here's a good article that covers most of the choices available on the market:
https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/09/power-meters-buyers-guide2016-edition.html
If you're interested in doing some reading on basic race tactics and strategy, you can check out the following two books:
"Racing Tactics for Cyclists" by Thomas Prehn
"Reading the Race" by Jamie Smith and Chris Horner
Ask questions, and share your knowledge, expertise, and experience; everyone interested in training to be a better cyclist are welcome.
Reminder to report and ignore runningposting
It's 51 degrees and cloudy today with a 20% chance of rain, so needless to say I will not be riding this weekend and, given that the weekend is the only time it's possible to ride, it means I will not have another chance to think about riding again until next weekened
I'm thinking of riding again once the weather gets nice again, who else is a professional serious cyclist trainer enthusiast like me? God I hate all these runnerfags who ride when it's not between 64 and 71 degrees and between 30 and 60% relative humidity. It's like they love UTTERLY RUINING their gloves, everyone who is on a bike right now instead of shitposting on 4chan is a mean runner jerk who totally doesn't like cycling like I do
>tfw single-digit bodyfat percentage
>tfw >4W/kg at threshold

I'll be in Japan at the end of this month, and I was wondering if there are any classic JR trains in service like the one pictured.
>>1080560
>Not posting in the Japanese Railways General thread
SHIGGY DIGGY DOO
Unfortunately most of the JNR era limited express EMUs are either retired or relegated to seasonal services. The only ones that I know are in active regular service are the 381 Series EMU for the Ltd. Exp Yakumo (West JR) between Okayama and Izumoshi and the 185 Series EMU for the Ltd. Exp Odoriko (JR East) between Tokyo and Izu peninsula
There are still plenty of JNR era commuter/suburban EMUs along with various types of DMUs throughout the country, but I'm not sure if you are interested in those too
If you want to get really classic, there are various opportunities to ride steam trains across the country every weekend.
Partially they even run as regular services. Like along the Yamaguchi Line. You can ride that train (SL Yamaguchi) with regular JR tickets (including the JRP).
>>1080560
I don't know if it was the exact same model, but I took a very similar train to this to Amanohashidate and back from Kyoto.
