Do you think we will ever see a short hop point to point airliners become the norm again? Here in Texas and other larger states traveling by air is difficult due to the prolonged waits caused by the hub and spoke method. Southwest still does point to point, part of the reason it is so popular in the Southern and western states.

Maybe once hybrid electric regional become a thing.
>>
What airline is this?
>>
>>1077672
Greyhound Air. Canadian airline that only existed for 1 year from 1996-1997.
>>
>>1077674
Seems like it had a nice concept.
What would this airline use instead of the 727?
>>
>>1077679
Probably 737's for long routes and DCH-8s for shorter hops where turboprops would be more efficient. Would all depend on the distance and popularity of a route. Grayhound Airs gimmick was if they could not fly directly to a destination they would get you as close as possible then have a bus line going past the airport. Gray hound air ended after it lost a few bus routes and finished the year unprofitable.
>>
Maybe when the TSA is abolished and you don't have to get to airports 5 hours early.
>>
>>1077644
The thing is, airline regulation in north america is convoluted as hell. Certain things needed to be relaxed so that low cost carriers that focused on short range flight could thrive
>>
>>1077644
airline or airliners? Two very different things.
And if the two poibts you are connecting have so little travel demand that cannot even support a more frequent schedule to hub, then I don't think they can support many point to.point flights, and those little point to point flights they can support would cone at an expense of even fewer flights to hub as those people no longer need to use hub

Someone told me that US people hate props a lot and any regional airline using props in the US are doom to be fail and some passengers might even drive instead of flying props, which is why those less ecobomical 50-seats RJ are more popular than props in the US

Tahoe Air had a short hop service between San Jose and South Lake Tahoe a few years ago. It only lasted for 1 year.
>>
>>1078223
South Tahoe used to have lots of short hop service. Allegiant was that last one to pull out, in 2000.
>>
>>1078232
I remember when Allegiant left. Now there is no regular service.
>>
>>1078245
There definitely doesn't need to be mainline service because Reno/Tahoe has basically taken that over. I could see seasonal short hop prop plane service to South Tahoe being viable though, like with Saab 340s or 2000s or something of that size. Maybe even as big as a Dash 8, but that'd be the limit.
>>

>>1078247
Surf Air is flying service to Truckee north of the lake with Pilatus PC-12 NGs, but those are only 8 passengers.

The Indian Casinos near Sacramento have taken a good portion of business away from Tahoe and Reno. I see what you mean. The airport in Tahoe is being used as City Hall now, and would need to be adjusted again, if regular service was brought back.
>>
>>1078264
The main tourist draw if Tahoe has never been the casinos. It's been skiing in twineter and the lake itself in summer. Gambling has always been secondary in Tahoe. Different story for Reno, which is hit harder by Indian casinos.

In the winter*

Fucking phone.

I remember when Harrahs, Harveys, Horizon and Caesars all went together and were subsidizing seats on flights to Tahoe just to get the airlines to keep servicing the airport.

Actually, LCC are short hop point to point and now they are the norm
>>
>>1078407
No they aren't. Point to point is still very much in the minority of flights.
>>
>>1078423
Point to me some LCCs that aren't point to point.
>>
>>1078428
That's not how you seemed to have phrased it. The structure of your statement grammatically suggests that LCCs and/or point-to-point flights are the norm.

Obviously LCCs are not the majority (norm) of commercial flights. And obviously point-to-point flights are not in the majority (norm) either.

But yes, when just looking at LCCs, point-to-point is the dominant model.
>>
>>1078428
Frontier is still pretty hub-centric around Denver. They are trying to decentralize and go more point-to-point, but it'll take time.
>>
>>1078442
Frontier could go into some small airports like Elko, if they still flew these.
>>
>>1078440
ah right, LCCs are still pretty far from being the aingle norm, although it is now one of the normal way for people to travel.
