Hi /k/ I am moving into an unsafe neighborhood and I was wondering what gun is best for self defense. I have 0 experience with firearms and I was wondering if pic related is the best for a beginner.

A long arm is objectively better for a new shooter
The Taurus Judge obviously. Made by a reputable American manufacturer. Extremely reliable (revolvers never jam). Compact like a pistol. Powerful like a shotgun.
Mossberg Shockwave.
>Ez as a pump shotty to use
>Kill any baddy with ease
>Point and click to aim
Hi all.
I own a Model 94 "Sheriff Bat Masterson" version. I was wondering how this rifle compares to a regular 1894 in terms of price. I'm going for a more authentic look and my rifle is a bit cheesy IMO. If the prices are comparable I might sell or trade mine, if not I'll either sell or keep it's super valuable.
Looked it up and I couldn't find anything concrete, all of the rifles were ranging from $400-2000. What do I do??
>>34333956
If its not a pre 64, its not worth owning.
Knowing nothing of that model in particular, it really is that much of a crapshot. If it's an unfired, unmolested, unharmed example, some fudd might just give you a grand. Anything less than 100% out-of-the-box new condition drops its value, sometimes by a lot.
Gunbroker has four listed, all but one in unfired condition. They're all at 1k or more, and only one has a bid (technically two, since it's a consecutive pair). That tells us two things: They're ridiculously priced considerig they're wall hangers, and not a lot of people are really interested in them.
My guess, if it's halfway decent, your LGS might give you a straight trade on a decent Marlin or a used Winchester, but probably around $750 worth of trade, max.
Also, what >>34334004 said. From a shooters perspective, it's an inferior weapon, because post 64 all the older, labor intensive processes for making a rifle had been phased out.
>>34334035
how would I check the date?
And it has been dry fired a shit ton, but I've only put about 10 or so rounds through it. I'll ask the guy I got it from how much he's fired it.
Just got my license to carry in PA. Any advice for a first time CC? Pic related, it's what I'll be carrying
Trade pic related in for a Glock 42. It's literally only 1 oz heavier although it's noticeably larger in every other dimension. It shoots much, much better and is built to last.
Other than that, you'll have to experiment quite a bit to find what works for your body type and lifestyle.
Start with a good belt. Not a big deal with sub 20 oz pistols like this but the stability provided by a gun belt is superb, a necessity with larger guns.
Don't skimp on holsters. Yes you're gonna end up with some that didn't work for you, but cheap holsters don't work at all.
Go shooting often, but you should be practicing dry firing and drawing on a daily or bare minimum weekly basis.
Don't be overly concerned with printing. No one pays attention to anything these days.
Carry a spare mag always. Mags break, they are the weak link in a semi auto.
Realize pistols are far less effective than most people think. Having a ccw is not some magic talisman, best way to win a gunfight is to not enter one.
Watch ASP or active self protection YouTube videos and as many "gunfight/shootout" videos as you can find. The ASP guy is annoying but he does have solid advice for the most part but most importantly his channel has the largest cache of shooting videos I've found. I've also learned from their channel that Brazil has a significant population of "off duty officers."
>>34334034
Other than the first point, pretty much this
>>34334034
Thanks for the advice. I have been following that channel for awhile now. What are your thoughts on carrying without a round in the chamber? I know alot of people say fuck that, but I feel like I'll be more comfortable trying that first. Also, in response to your last comment. Never go to Brazil and if you do, look out for motorcycles lol.
Well, I've finally got the urge to get an AR15. I've never been into rifles but I've always felt that every red blooded American should have one. However, I'm not sure which version Id prefer to have.
Rifle version, 16" bbl
>prevalent, can find factory versions for ~$450
>16" bbl helps with velocity over shorter rifles
>Can have an actual stock, not just 3 "brace" options
>Can't transport it loaded because of old anti poaching laws, must be empty, ammo separate
Pistol version, 11.5-14.5" bbl
>Can be transported while fully loaded as it is classified as a pistol
>Muh CQC
>Short bbl that can be transported between state lines unlike NFA items
>Essentially does the same job, just not as comfy cause "brace" only
>Lower velocity, potentially diabolical muzzle flash and noise
What does /k/ think? What is the shortest bbl length appropriate for .556? Is there a muzzle device that can compensate for the flash/blast of a short bbl .556? Do the benefits of the pistol version outweigh those of the rifle?
>>34333642
Wouldn't you need a tax stamp? Or is there some difference between a SBR and AR pistol that I'm not aware of?
>>34334021
It's arbitrarily complicated.
The difference starts in the receiver.
>Ar15 rifle lower .556
>Ar15 pistol lower .556
You can have any bbl length in on a "pistol" receiver. However, the "pistol" turns into an SBR rifle (which needs an nfa stamp if bbl <16") if you
>install a "rifle sock.
Which means you can only use the "pistol brace" , such as the sig brace or the shockwave, etc. You CAN shoulder the braces now per ATF. There are folder and adjustable versions out there, but most people know only of the sig brace version.
It's fucking retarded.
Adjustable "brace" on an MPX
Give me one good reason why shouldn't you buy a scar-l over an ar15 other than the price tag
It's lighter.

So the Battle of Mosul is just about over, they blew up their mosque and retreated
Why did Mosul fall in only 8 months to US-backed proxies with US airpower, yet Aleppo took 4 years to fall to Russian-backed proxies with Russian airpower?
>>34333468
Because Mattis in a Talos suit was present.
>>34333468
America proxies have them sexy ass TOW missiles.
>>34333468
Because Russia is fighting against the real ISIS. Kinda like WW2, you know, Russia fights the veterans while USA fights the teens and conscripts.
> A sniper in the Canadian special forces shot and killed an Islamic State (IS) fighter from a distance of 2.1 miles (3,540m) in Iraq last month.
> The sniper worked in tandem with an observer, who helps to spot targets, and used a standard Canadian military issued McMillan TAC-50 rifle.
> The government of Canada's Liberal Party Prime Minister Justin Trudeau halted air strikes against the so-called Islamic State in 2016.

That's fucking stretching WWI indirect rifle fire range meant to fire upon parade formations of enemy. That's fucking mortar range.

Sup /k/, /diy/nosaur here.
Genuine question: what material do they use to counter contemporary thermal cameras? It seems incredibly difficult. Must not be too absorbent or it will produce a black spot, has to warm up and cool down as the surroundings do, has to be moisture permeable, must not restrict movement, has to be weather resistant, must not degrade during washing, etc. Do they use multiple layers, nanoparticles? Some kind of engineered polymer? No, I am not trying to create one myself just bumped into a conversation the other day and I'm interested. Technical answers would be highly appreciated.

I'm looking for a flintlock musket. I'm between the Brown Bess and a Kentucky rifle. Any advice?
Kentucky rifle.
More history and significance behind it. Also, 'merica

Is not a musket. But I would go with that anyway.

Do you guys know if the traditions one is any good?
I'm visiting Israel right now and I'm noticing that the M16 and the TAR are pretty popular among the IDF. What do you think, good choices?
Also what do you think of the IDF?
>>34332430
They never seem to have any pride in their appearance whatsoever - I've never seen a single IDF soldier look genuinely smart.
>Inb4 "smart isn't useful on the battlefield"
no, it's not. But soldiering is also about discipline and following rules including following dress standards. All decent professional armies do this. I haven't personally but I know people who have trained with them and apparently they have absolutely fuck-all discipline.
Plus they wear their berets like cunts. Can't be having that.
Pic very much related.
