no, it's not. But soldiering is also about discipline and following rules including following dress standards. All decent professional armies do this. I haven't personally but I know people who have trained with them and apparently they have absolutely fuck-all discipline.

ANZACs in Vietnam were a mix of National Servicemen and Volunteer Regular soldiers. Couldn't tell them apart because pride in their regiment/Corps/selves was instilled in training. Clearly IDF troops have zero pride in themselves or their unit and so don't want to reflect well upon it or themselves by appearing in a smart, soldierlike manner.

Ex-IDF here, Not necessarily. Just because most of don't care how sharp we look in uniform or how shiny our boots are doesn't mean we aren't proud of our unit. We just express it differently. Granted, there are alot of people who don't give a shit at all. It's a conscript military, so you can't really avoid it, but when it comes to combatants, most soldiers are very proud of their battalion/company/platoon.

I don't doubt from your experience, I just have never felt any kind of pride shouting out at me from any recent picture of IDF troops. The only time I've seen professionalism is in photos of their proper SF bods, but then they just go generic western SF. That or stuff from the era of the 6-day war. They are conscripts but they look like professional soldiers.

Whenever you see IDF next to US/UK/NATO forces, they just look untidy, disorganised, badly led, demotivated and ill-disciplined, just in the way they carry and conduct themselves.
