Gun Jesus talked favorably about training using .22s. Should everyone do it or am I better off with a Moist Nugget?
Video in question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffjWYZ5H23w
>>34444761
It's good advice, especially if you've never shot a gun before. Nearly anything bigger and you'd probably develop a flinch.
>>34444761
Nugget is great for recoil training, the 22 is great for getting 2000 rounds down range for a little over 100 bucks
If you are training to develop early marksmanship fundamentals, with no experience with heavy calibers, a .22 is far superior.
Hey /k/
Got myself an AK a while back, in the business of buying mags for it. I have 2 "AK pmags" but I hear a lot of mixed reviews on them. What has yalls experience with them been? Should I keep buying them? If not what would be the best and most cost effective mags to get?
>>34444539
TAPCO is the best AK mag OP, anyone that says different is clearly a troll.
>>34444902
>>34444539
I've got a few of them and they've worked for me.
I don't abuse them at all either so idk about long term reliability, but if that's what you're after just buy a box of those Croatian blemished magazines that PSA sells every now and then, all steel and they come lightly oiled and individually sealed in plastic bags. I think they average out to like 7 or 8 bucks each when you buy them in bulk.
Does anyone else dislike the majority of the "shooting community"? It seems like most people I know that are into shooting just want to go to a range, pile up a bunch of garbage and watch it 'splode from buckshot or whatever. Or they only want to shoot within their comfort zone of 7 yards for handgun, considering on paper to be success. It's not that I expect everyone to be a master marksman or anything, but "shooters" seem to be quick to blame their gun rather than themselves, they accept their mediocre shooting as good enough, they have a million 0.0005 moa group stories but can never replicate it when anyone is around, they never actually evaluate their progress and make corrections, and they think they're hot shit while other people that are actually at or past their same level are trash.
I was at the range today and there was a guy shooting a 22 revolver, slow fire, off hand at 50 yards. He was getting some hits on a 3-4" swinger with open sights. The rest of his shots weren't off by much either. I thought that shit was impressive as fuck and let him know, meanwhile a group of guys who were trying to teach their sister how to shoot were talking in the background saying "That's not that hard, it has no kick!". Meanwhile they're shooting some full size 357 mag at <7 yards getting foot wide groupings, and they didn't fire a single shot at anything past that. You could tell they were feeling a bit emasculated because they mostly just shot "double taps" the rest of the time, mashing the trigger as fast as they could in the general direction of their target.
That's just a single story, but I feel is a good illustration of the mindset of the majority of shooters today. Am I alone in this thought? How can I break free of this? Join a good club? Only shoot competition?
>>34444378
If you don't do competition, you should
i just blow up trash because setting up real targets costs money and time
that's not to say i don't set up real targets, i just want to always be shooting at SOMETHING instead of just shooting
>>34444378
Most of my friends aren't capable of shooting with iron sights. They burn ammo quickly and then blame the rapid fire for terrible groups. Most can't even shoot with scopes past 200 yards. They aren't comfortable building or smithing their own guns, they prefer to send it away for even basic repairs. Many don't clean their guns. Also, OP's pic related, they like to destroy random objects and then leave them to rot
Of course there are exceptions, but not a lot. We need more riflemen and more self reliant guys in general.
I know it's very illegal to fire guns in the air, even though I live two blocks from the ocean and I'd go in that direction.
What about firing blanks? You get the sound and feel without actually shooting anything, basically like fireworks but nothing to look at. Am I legally allowed to do this? Will I be picked up by shotspotter tech?
>>34443875
Use your brain.
Shoot into the ground if you must. At leas the rounds don't go into the neighbor's house several MILES away. Some counties allow firearm use outside of city limits.
>>34443875
>What about firing blanks?
Please kill yourself.
>>34443875
Illegal? No (depending on where u live)
Safe? Not technically.
And I'd say it's a safe bet that you'd get a visit from the cops if anyone saw you so then you get to explain the whole thing to them and hope they don't jail you anyway.
What would be a good first rifle for someone who has shot guns at a range, but never owned a firearm before?
>>34443745
Bolt actions can be had for very cheap from Savage, they are accurate, upgradable, and they come with great triggers. They can shoot long range, they can hunt, and they don't burn ammo. Available in a variety of calibers for roughly the same price. Easy to clean and maintain. Perfect first rifle.
>>34443745
My first purchase was a 10/22. Great rifle and cheap as shit to shoot. Honestly though you could start with an AR or the like, they don't really have much of a learning curve. The bolt action suggestion is good, but it depends on what you want ultimately.
>>34443823
This.
Start with a 22, and get really good at it
Its a small caliber, but very versatile.

Are magnifiers huge memes or do they work okay? Im gonna have some extra pocket change soon and am tempted to try one out. Any experiences?

I think it ultimately depends on what you want to do.
Why not a ACOG/RMR Combo, or canted red dot, or a variable zoom

im not an oper8or or an airshitter so basically for fun

Why did the Germans hate shotguns so much?
It was a very American battle implement and fucked their shit up in WWI. Hicks from the south would be able to shoot German grenades out of mid air with it too.
Cause model 10 is op in trench warfare.

>Hicks from the south would be able to shoot German grenades out of mid air with it too.
Sounds like fuddlore, but okay.
Ammunition Manufacturing Thread
I got the chance to go tour a nearby Remington ammunition plant recently for my job and learned a whole lot about what goes in to producing ammunition. If you've ever wondered how they make something, ask away.
Or if you have similar information, dump in here
One of the amazing things to me is that they produce 7 MILLION rounds of .22 a DAY, and its still hit and miss on availability around me sometimes.
Also surprisingly, their highest profit margin product (over $1/shell) is a 3 oz, 8 gauge slug cartridge used exclusively for industrial boiler cleaning
>>34443179
I'd like to know how exactly the jacketing is done, and how they monitor the consistency thereof.
Also, what QC measures are there for ammo lots?
>>34443198
How does that work?
i don't get it, why deal with the risks of glocking yourself when you are not in danger and then dealing with a shitty trigger when you actually need to shoot? The perfect trigger system was already invented with the 1911, its called cocked and locked SA. Lets be honest, if you don't enough situation awareness to flick off your safety when you sense danger before pulling your gun out of your holster, you aren't going to be able to do shit but scamper and hide behind a wall anyways.

Hey /k/, I recently bought my first handgun, but I had a question about the ammo I bought. I picked up 2 boxes of federal 115 grain 9mm and when I got home, I pulled them out to look at them and the brass looked tarnished. It had little grayish splotches on it almost like an old trumpet. Should I return the ammo or am I being a pussy?
>>34442919
absolutely normal for brass cased ammo
if you see excessive green fuzz then you have a problem
>>34442919
I'd just shoot it. I found a 9mm on the ground at the range that looked like it had been there for a solid month. I cleaned it off and it fired like any other. Unless you're seeing cracked brass or bullets being seated WAY too deep, you should be fine to shoot them.
>>34442919
Absolutely fine for shooting. With brass, green is your concern as it indicates corrosion/oxidation of the alloy.
Also, check the primers if they are OK, but you should just be fine
