Hey /k/, I recently bought my first handgun, but I had a question about the ammo I bought. I picked up 2 boxes of federal 115 grain 9mm and when I got home, I pulled them out to look at them and the brass looked tarnished. It had little grayish splotches on it almost like an old trumpet. Should I return the ammo or am I being a pussy?

absolutely normal for brass cased ammo
if you see excessive green fuzz then you have a problem

I'd just shoot it. I found a 9mm on the ground at the range that looked like it had been there for a solid month. I cleaned it off and it fired like any other. Unless you're seeing cracked brass or bullets being seated WAY too deep, you should be fine to shoot them.

Absolutely fine for shooting. With brass, green is your concern as it indicates corrosion/oxidation of the alloy.
Also, check the primers if they are OK, but you should just be fine

Thanks guys, just wanted to make sure I wasn't dealing with anything dangerous.

Should be fine. What gun did you get per chance?
This is the most loving and caring thread I've ever seen <3

Prepare yourself for that to change.
I'm wondering if this is as much of an issue with rimfire cartridges. Old .22's seem to be the most likely to look like they are corroding but unless the metal is deformed they've always worked.

Sounds ok but keep your eyes open if you buy from same place again. A lot of dealers where going crazy hording ammo to scalp at shows and such are now dumping because no one paid asking price. Iv'e seen them ask full retail for shit at shows sitting around since the 90s. Which is ok if stored properly but most dealers are NOT gun guys. Some are no better than used car salesmen.
