tldr; What's the lever gun to get if you are only going to have one?
Most of my collection is 20th century milsurp (and more modern stuff). Last fall I found a good deal on an Uberti SAA 7.5" in 45 Colt, my first revolver, and it's pretty fun at the range. Got me thinking I should really have at least one "old west" rifle.
I'm not too knowledgeable on lever guns, I do know that the Winchester 1873 is an obvious choice, and there is also the 86, 92,95,96 which bear the DNA of JMB.
I do want something with a loading gate, don't want to fiddle with the older designs that have tubes fed from the muzzle end only, or tubes in the stock.
Not interested in .22lr (for my first lever gun anyway). Obvious choice is 45 Colt since I already have the SAA. 357 or 44 mag might be options, though I don't yet own anything else for those cartridges. Is 357 out of a rifle too little recoil to get an appreciation of the old west frontier rifle feel?
Are Uberti and Henry the two "replica" makers to be looking at?
Marlin 1894 in 44 or 1895 in 45-70
If they made the 1894c in 357 still and I didn't shoot 44mag already, that's what I'd be doing.
>>34442733
Ammoseek shows 45-70 at around $1/rnd while 44Mag has plenty of options between 44-50cents/rnd.
I don't plan to shoot a huge amount through whatever I choose, but ammo price is part of the overall equation too. I suppose I should get a Springfield Trapdoor too at some point though...
>>34442727
Forgotten Weapons just did a development series on the winchester lever gats.
I would be wary of getting any new marlins since they are owned by the same shitbirds running remington into the ground.
Century has some 1895 Chilean mausers. They're rated at "Good" and "Fair" but I'm not sure if its worth the risk.

Tula 91/30s always sell for more than Izhevsk, what is the reason for this? Is there any actual difference between them? Are there fewer of them?
>>34442051
Also, does getting a Hex receiver Mosin guarantee that it was made before WWII?
>>34442051
Tula is more sought after by "collectors" but I'm not sure why. They're aren't any appreciable differences between the two arsenals during the war IIRC
General discussions on bolt actions, share pics of your rifles.
I'm currently looking at either being cheap and getting a savage axis, or being poor and getting a tikka t3x. Does anyone have any other suggestions that I should consider? What is the difference between the savage axis and the savage axis ll?
>>34441686
>bolt action
just buy a fucking semi-auto preferably an AR15 unless you live in a cucked nation then you shouldn't be buying guns anyway and leave them to the real men.
tldr: fuck off fudd
>>34441686
Howa can be good too, but the Tikkas are hard to beat right now. Usually all you have to replace is the godawful stock.
>>34441729
You don't seem to know much about guns or why people shoot them.
>>34441686
If you have the money then go for a tikka. I have 2 of them and both shoot consistent 0.75 moa and better.
Also, don't listen to this idiot with his bait >>34441729

Are there any numbers for the RCS of modern warships? Obviously Zumwalt is king but I'm wondering how the new Chinese ships stack up to their American contemporary counterparts
>>34441494
>Zumwalt is king
It's not actually, The African Republic of Swedistan had stealth corvettes far before Zumwalt was around.

Oppenheimer North Korea did a bad again and now there are talks of what they launched being an ICBM that can carry a nuclear payload. What is your sage wisdom?
Also Nuclear weapons thread.
Oppenheimer is gone, friend.
Dust in the wind.
>>34441019
but who else will talk about nuclear weapons and their use in a factual manner and spare us from atomic fuddlore?
>>34441013
The newest missile launch looks like it was a ~7000 kilometer range "intermediate" ballistic missile, but it's effectively an ICBM at this point, capable of striking anywhere from Juneau Alaska to Townsville, Australia. Against closer targets, it's quite capable of lofting its payload into space over North Korea's borders before dropping a warhead inside of a reentry vehicle on South Korea, China, or Japan.
Watching preadator 2 and i realized that, 80's-early 90's movies had the best guns.
Everything is supersoaker sized and chrome, literal every character has a gun, and a different one at that, from every other person on screen.
