What weapons are we going to create in the next years?

Variations on the same shit we have now.

Telescoping ammo, airburst munitions, lighter components, better/smarter optics. Thats about all we can realistically expect, since portable railguns and directed energy shit are videogame memes.

This desu. When it comes to small arms, other than looking forward to caseless ammunition, we have just been tinkering and squeezing extra performance out of older tech. I doubt we will see anything as revolutionary as semi/full auto intermediate calibre weapons were to bolt actions and early semis. We have hit a plateau. Though I'm sure that at someone always thought that at each stage in history.

Would be cool if we could get smaller power supplies that could handle a man carried railgun or a gun that sprays microwaves at a lethal power instead of those deterrent crowd control weapons we already have.

Imagine if you could clear a room by just microwaving it. Destroying all organic life and then strolling in and claim a more intact building as opposed to if you had to frag and clear.

Mail is what they work with at the post office.

Also, maille is flexible causing blunt trauma to be quite effective. You might not get cut, but you could still get bone fractures or internal bleeding.

And weight distribution with maille is less efficient if you compare it to plate armour.

Infact all european tanks sucks. Only the M1 abrams have proven themself completely reliable and are inherently safer on all levels since all the ammunition are seperated from the crew.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-07-08/australia-to-speed-missile-defense-development-turnbull-says

So we want a missile shield, but don't want THAAD (likely because of it's short range - see pic) - the article talks about Australia developing something, but that'll likely mean getting existing systems and developing an overall shield out of them. So what missiles should be used?

Ground-Based Midcourse Defense could provide defence for not only Australia but also (to a lesser extent) NZ, Christmas Island, Guam, etc. Only problem is that they're essentially ICBMs themselves meaning they're expensive.

AEGIS Ashore is a step down, but using SM-3 Block IIAs a couple of installations could cover the entire country.

THAAD could work (despite what the PM says), but due to Australia's distances you'd need an installation for just about every city or base you want to protect, not to mention it's a terminal intercept system, making any failures to intercept that much more dangerous.

Also, what about radars?

JORN has detected missile launches over China before, so it can provide some early warning, but then for targeting do we get something like a bunch of TPY-2s? Is there any use for something like a HAVE STARE system?

>>

Buying GBMD interceptors outright might be a good option. Put them in North Queensland to protect the East Coast.
>>
>>34488629
Why not all of them? THAAD for dense population centers, AEGIS Ashore for general coastal regions, and GMD for overall coverage?

How would a Falklands War V2 go down now? How long would it last? Who would take what sides?

I think it's fair to assume that Trump would join in on our side with at least minimal support.

Fuck you. We're going to take the island for ourselves. If the Spic Nazis don't like it, perhaps Mr. Macri should be reminded of what happens to deposed leaders of countries invaded by America. (hint: it ain't pretty).
>>
>>34488514
They pulled it off initially in the 80s because nobody was expecting that shit at all, these days there's enough hardware on that island they'd have a difficult time even pulling off a troll mission like that. They'd be better off going as tourists and having a quick dress-up photo session somewhere quiet than trying something like that.

As for a full scale war unless they somehow got the US to back them fully and provide a carrier group as support there wouldn't be any contest, Britain has a modern military with decent navy+airforce, plus an army that actually has training and morale. Argentina has for the most part no navy, at least in terms of vessels that can put to sea, an airforce that hasn't changed hugely from the 80s bar adding rust and still a shitty army that wouldn't want to go any distance in a straight fight beyond a few elite units.

They got to the islands in the 80s because nobody was expecting it, and were able to make a fight of things because they were somewhat decently equipped at the time, now neither is true, and a 30 year gap in technology is a huge deficit to overcome these days, especially if you need to fight across an expanse of ocean.

Decide what you want in an AR-15 first.

You can assemble an AR that will be better suited to your preferences for cheaper, and it will often have features that lead to improved performance, longevity or ease of use.

Easiest, cheapest way is to buy a milspec lower for $109.99, it will be fully assembled with all lower parts and a carbine buffer system and stock.

Alternatively, you can opt for a pistol lower at the same price, or pay a small premium for a brace or A2 rifle length stock.

From there, consider barrel length, barrwl treatments, twist rate, gas system, and whether you want a fixed front sight post or free float rail. Currently, you can find almost any upper you'd want assembled minus BCG and CH for ~$200.

At this point, a nitride BCG is going to give you the best bang for your buck. You can often find extended and tactical charging handles for the same price as a standard charging handle.

For example, last week I built two ARs for $350 each that were 16 inch 1/8 midlength with nitride barrels and BCGs, tactical charging handles and milspec carbine lowers. From there, you add whatever optic or rear sight you want.

Or, just buy any cheap prebuilt AR and decide what you'd want from there. They're all pretty much the same.

It's going to be my first rifle that I can use for the range and home defense. I am not well acquainted with the AR system and I'd like to buy a brand AR to help get familiar with the firearm. Building my own sounds a little intimidating to me as of now due to my lack of experience of the system

It's the end of an era, until now the HK416 only equipped some COS (spec ops) troops. It is now being deployed in regular units, 100-120k rifles are being issued in the coming years.

Did a quick google search for you. According to post by redit user John_YJKR it's a customized assault shotgun carried by Richard. He's the one who gets eaten by a shark. The design is clearly a fictional mishmash of various guns. I can see what appears to be an m-16 stock and the barrel and stock of the B.A.R, but honestly have no clue

So, the opening salvo between any superpowers would clearly be to shoot down all their satellites. No GPS, drastically reduced communication, drastically reduced capabilities of all guided weapons, not to mention massive effects on civilian sector.

Are United States soldiers still taught advanced land navigation with a map and compass? Are tank commanders, pilots, and officers capible of operating without GPS?

Also, what would the retaliation be for such a strike? Your enemy just gouged your eyes out, now what?

>o, the opening salvo between any superpowers would clearly be to shoot down all their satellites. No GPS

That one's a lot easier said than done. GPS orbits at 12,550 miles. You're not shooting down a GPS satellite without a kill vehicle that goes at least that high.
