So say you're in a bar fight by yourself.
A gang member started shit with you, and you ended up breaking his arm. Now about 10 others are closing in on you for a fight.
But one draws a pistol, so you draw yours and put three in his chest.
Where do you go from here? Killing the one with the deadly weapon was legal, but there's 9 more without any weapons that are about to take your weapon from you and kill you.
Would it be legal to kill any that come too close?

So a 3D printed repeater strong enough to fire .38 special for example would be pretty neat. Could pic be strong enough to do the job? Essentially using nails to lock the plastic bolt, and also putting nails straight through the bolt with their heads covering the face of it.

Pretty much. A lot of /k/, ARF, and most other prepper-heavy sites put way too much emphasis on ALL POSSIBLE THREATS, and honestly that's just ridiculous.
There is no defense you can come up with that doesn't have some countermeasure somewhere, ESPECIALLY with regard to the police. Cost/benefit should be a much bigger consideration in preparation and home defense, though probably erring a bit toward the cost side.
