There's a lot of tech-related stuff in Austin, and a bunch in the Research Triangle area in NC. There's also a lot of government-related IT work to be had in and around Washington, which means you could live in Virginia.

I live in the Bay Area (I'm actually typing this sitting at a cafe in Silicon Valley). California gun laws are bad, but nowhere near as bad as people here make them out to be. Your fixed-magazine SKS is perfectly legal here. As long as you're not a felon, a wife-beater, or a mental patient, you'll be fine.

And no shit, eh? Small world. I'll be interning in Sunnyvale this summer. I've met some other /k/ommandos, including one very decent fellow who was nice enough to teach me handgun safety/handling a couple of years back.

Anyways, yeah, you can manage to be a gun owner there but it's getting progressively worse. Especially with the recent referendums, I'm trying to avoid living there if I can (ammo background checks, etc). And while most fixed-mag SKS's are legal here, I'd need to remove the grenade launcher from this Yugo to bring it over.

Overall though you do have a better gun-owning culture and self-defense law than New Jersey, but I'd still like to upgrade my rights since I have the skills to pick where I go.

I live in Denver and work in infosec, everyone at my company is pro-gun and frequently goes shooting. We have a company 3gun team and several FFL holders at our company.

I'm just overly cautious about headspacing and how far the bullet actually has to travel before it touches the rifling in the barrel. Don't want a kaboom. Then again, they say you can shoot .45ACP out of a .460 rowland with no problems. Thing is I think the difference in case lenght is shorter between the rowland and .45 acp versus the 10mm and .40sw

Amphibious paddle-wheel tank. 650 tons. Would need a 737 engine to have the same horsepower proportionately as a large patrol boat or a tank 10 times normal size.

It would have to be buoyant, and the paddlewheels would need to also be used as tracks.

I spend my time worldbuilding a hard scifi world set in a future cold war between the powers of earth and rebel factions in the outer solar system, where the former groups are too busy spying on each other to really care about the rebels and the rebel groups are too divided amongst themselves and the depths of space to truly overpower the earth factions. So you have this stalemate where Earth could just nuke every piece of shit rock in the belt and the spacers could just drop a big rock on earth for the lols but neither really does so they just wave around their civilisation killing weapons at each other threatening to do it this time

There are a multitude of problems with actually having effective AICBM measures.


First off, it costs a fuck ton to maintain a large bank of missiles, launch sites, detection arrays and control positions.


Two, it makes nuclear exchanges less MAD and that is not a good thing. It turns nukes from a last resort or deterrent into a more general use weapon thanks to no fear of an effective counter attack.


Third, it creates a huge problem if you can't or won't cover 100% of your people perfectly: the people who aren't covered are going to be pissed with those that are.

They are at risk because the government won't protect them, so they will vote for someone who promises to extend the network.


One of the other problems is that it is a huge investment of resources and time that can be eliminated by other forces: spies and SF could be deployed to eliminate key sections of such a network or such. Rendering it useless.


Also the other problem: How do you know the enemy missiles are the nuclear ones?

What if they fire a bunch of "dud" missiles with no warheads along with ones that are nuclear? Suddenly your system has wasted a portion of it's capability on oversized fuel bombs.

What if they fire missiles that break into too many war heads or even "dud" heads as well? That overwhelm your defences?

What if they deployed chemical and biological weapon agents along side the nuclear ones? So that elimination of the missile still results in death and destruction?

What if they just fire radiological or toxic
materials at you and use your warheads to spread the material for them?

Are there any handguards that flare out at the end or have the same radius? Whatever you do don't get those handguards, they look like crap. I have no idea but you should be able to figure it out by purchasing the barrel and muzzle device first, and then taking careful measurements. Good luck!
