I've heard lots of stories of guys putting 800, even thousands of rounds of .40 smith and wesson through their Glock 20.
Some anon here that spoke with a representative or engineer or whatever from Glock said off the record it was okay but on the record he couldn't recommend it.
Will firing .40 S&W through a Glock 20 fuck it up or result in a catastrophic failure? Or will it only need to be cleaned before shooting 10mm out of it again?
>>33720976
.40 is just cut down 10mm.
If it locks into battery, I don't know why it'd be an issue. If it can handle 10mm pressures, .40 won't touch it.
>>33721035
I'm just overly cautious about headspacing and how far the bullet actually has to travel before it touches the rifling in the barrel. Don't want a kaboom. Then again, they say you can shoot .45ACP out of a .460 rowland with no problems. Thing is I think the difference in case lenght is shorter between the rowland and .45 acp versus the 10mm and .40sw
>>33721035
>>33721083
nevermind I see now that the .460 rowland and .45ACP have the same overall length, which is why headspacing wouldn't be an issue.
Idk if I would risk .40 out of the Glock 20 now. Maybe some other anons have firsthand experience using .40 in their Glock 10mm's?
No /k/ommandoes can confirm or allay my fears?
>>33721281
Why the hell are you shooting 40 anyway?
>>33721316
Cheaper than 10mm, can pick it up at walmart instead of ordering it online. Similar to pudloaded 10mm. Plus I just like the idea of versatility. If shtf it would be nice to know that I could loot a store and pick up some .40 to use without blowing my gun up
Reading up on it more it seems like it wouldn't be too much different from shooting .38 special out of a .357 mag the way the extractor holds the round. The jump wouldn't be much farther. Seems like you'd just need to clean the carbon before firing 10mm through it
>>33720976
No. The last firearms that had problems with .40 were the old steel frame S&Ws and the first Glocks that were chambered in 40. 40 has destroyed no factory .40 in over two decades, not even a Taurus. The rest is a running joke.
>>33721570
I'm talking about the Glock 20 chambered in 10mm though
>>33721366
If you want ammo versatility buy a revolver
>>33721656
but I want a Glock 20. If it's not safe, then that's fine I won't shoot .40 out of it. I just want to know if it can be done safely, and if it can I would love to have a pistol chambered in 10mm that can fire both reliability and without risk of losing my hand.
>>33720976
Nigga where do you think the glocknade meme came from
>>33721700
.40 out of a Gen 2 Glock 22?
Meme on bby
>>33721727
*hand-loaded .40
No one's going to answer my question, are they?
>>33721926
I vaguely remember demolition ranch video on yt
It seems to work but the next round wont chamber
>>33721991
Hmmm. Whatever. I'll just use my dad's reloading bench then after purchasing a set of dies
Firing .40 out of a 10mm is fine, however, it will headspace off of the extractor. The extractor was never designed to do this and may break as a result. Get a spare just in case and never shoot .40 in a serious situation.
>>33722532
thank you sir
>>33720976
If you want to shoot .40 get a .40
.40 +P is the same goddamn thing as 10mm yet cheaper.
>>33722593
no such thing as .40 +p famalam. Buffalo bore .40 is still middle of the road compared to 10mm.
Maybe stop eating your lead bullets instead of reloading them?
>>33720976
I would probably trust a Glock 20 to shoot .40S&W in a pinch, but as far as continually shooting .40s out of it, just get a .40 conversion barrel for $100.
>>33722593
.40+P doesnt come anywhere close to full powered 10mm just like >>33722668 said
>>33720976
the worst that could happen is a failure to extract.
I have a G20 that I shoot 40 through. I had some soft primers that the striker beat the fuck out of, but I don't think that was related to it being 40.
As >>33722532 said, it's headspacing off the extractor, but that happens more often than people like to think even when shooting the appropriate ammo for the gun. The extractor is ripping the case out of the chamber hard as fuck so I don't see the issue with it grabbing a loaded case and holding it when closing the slide.
You can't induce an unsafe condition with shooting 40 through a G20 where it wouldn't be unsafe in a G22.
>>33723098
thank you anon. There's an article on The Truth About Guns that states the same thing, but I've always been wary of headspacing
>>33721656
>If you want ammo versatility buy a revolver
So you can shoot 38/357 or 44 mag/44spl? The Glock 20 requires conversion barrels which revolvers beat it out on but the number of calibers you can swap into a g20 is impressive. Buy a g21 slide/barrel for even more options.
>>33720976
My g20 is new and under warranty still so I bought a Storm Lake 40 barrel which is has significantly better accuracy than a g22 for me. I know SL has mixed QC reviews so I consider it an exception rather than the rule. Runs JHP, steel/aluminum just fine. Next i need a 6-9" 10mm barrel and a 357 Sig one as well.
>>33720976
does lone wolf not make a conversion barrel?
>>33726401
They do.
>>33724421
Buy a .357 revolver that has cuts for moon clips and you can shoot .357, .38 special, .9x19, and .380ACP.
>>33721690
actual 10mm owner here
buy a 10-40 conversion barrel my dude
but to answer your question.
Can you do it? yes
How long? no idea
Good idea? not really
>>33721690
Dude, .40 is lower pressured than 10mm. The risk you're running is the .40 cartridge not cycling the slide properly.
