I don't understand knifefags, and that's as someone with several. My $15 work knives are durable as fuck, hold an edge well, and can stick around 1000-3000 pigs (with sharpening between obviously) before I need to replace it.

This. You're paying for a brand name. My Buck skinning knife has lasted me over 12 years of hunting trips with hundreds of animals skinned. Payed like $40 for it back in the day. Still scalpel sharp with a perfect edge. Have also only ever used an $8 sharpening kit that I got at a garage sale.

Why on Earth would anyone buy this at all? Expensive cars and guns, sure, but a knife has no complexity and/or significant metallurgy that would be worth an extra 454 dollars.

is the blade hand forged? if its just laser cut steel stock like every other folding knife, why is it $455?

i get that there is a benefit to spending more than $30 on a folder, you get better quality and steel. but what does a $455 knife get you that a $150 one doesnt? it just seems so over the top and its not even gold plated or inlaid or decorative in any way

I prefer to spend around $100 for a knife but I like assisted open because I usually only have one free hand when I open my knife.

Most of the cost of a knife comes from the blade material and that's what gets knifefags docks hard. Start talking s30v, 154CM, and BG-42 and they will go nuts. Downside is that these steals are very expensive and usually proprietary so you pay out the ass for them.
