/ic/ is laborious and thorough; there are people here willing to tribute paragraphs of text to amateur artists to aid them on their development quite frequently in some of the least-frequented threads, such as the beginner thread. Many points are re-iterated, but that is because Art is not a spontaneous abstraction, but a Science. /Ic/ have developed methods to teach realism and constructionism, develop artist's handwriting and stop symbol drawing.

Advice might be imbued with humour, but that is for the better. When there is advice: it can aid the person and is made more soluble and direct by signifying a vigorous intention such as a joke. Then: all of the Artists on this board can learn phrases that will stick with them, and help them consider multiple options before placing a line on the page or working in a particular framework.

I'm a fucking idiot /ic/

After years owning a tablet, only today I realized why it has been always so difficult for me to draw details and why my drawings doodles always looked so "large" at first.

Once I thought it was because I used resolutions too small, but if I doubled the resolutions, I'd get astronomical file sizes, so that couldn't be it.

Today I had an epiphany and finally understood that to get a circle of 1 inch on my screen, I had to draw a circle of HALF inch on my tablet. Which is why details were always impossible for me. Further, if I drew a line across my tablet, I'd get a line TWICE the size on screen.

You can laugh at me if you want, but I've always thought that it made no sense to zoom over 100% and that you had to think about drawing on a tablet like drawing on a paper, and what you'd see on screen would be what you'd see on a paper.

Turns out I'm a retard and I was wrong.

I'm glad you admit your retardation. Now if 99% of /ic/ can only follow your example we'd be somewhere.
>>
Mine is roughly the same size, but I'm usually zommed out or zoomed out of the document so the are I'm drawing in is generally very small, probably use about 25% of the tablet space or less.
>>
>>2855716
Same size as my monitor*

Point being it doesn't matter that much.

How do I into rendering?

>>
step 1: learn perspective
step 2: learn about light
step 3: learn about value control, edges and color
step 4: start studying from reference
step 5: render from imagination

there you go, fuck off. also, loomis.

what is the biggest and most detailed painting you have ever seen?
i know, the painting being large in size does not necessarily mean it's detailed. small paintings can be detailed too.
but that's not the question. i ask for a painting that is both big in size and especially attentive in detailing.

Raft of the medusa by Gericault, I'd read about it before but when I saw it in person at the Louvre it blew my mind with its scale and detail. The complexity of the composition and interweaving figures is incredible.

Thoughts? I'm impressed with how fast she works. I never realized how messy she is with her brush strokes. Gives me a lot more confidence with digital painting. Not every stroke needs to be perfect. You just have to keep painting and painting until it looks good. Given you know the fundamentals, of course. This interview honestly gave me some more confidence and insight into digital painting.

Isn't that obvious, OP? Like come on, it's like you've never digitally painted or something. Pretty sure most digital artist have the same process as Sakimichan, but she's just so experienced, her speed is insane.

Kek I remember when everyone thought there were no funny right wingers, now we have the internet where you don't have to kneel before Zog to get on and would you look at that...

These "progressives" still haven't registered the fact that the culture is leaving them behind. They're going to be the old men and women wondering what happened to their countries and it's going to be beautiful to watch them die confused and hated.
>>
honestly if i was an art director i wouldn't want to work with someone spouting political ideology all the time. also not sure how being misogynistic/racist is going to get you ahead anywhere, you don't have to be a sjw but at least you should be respectful :^)

Do any of you guys on /ic/ gives yourself a "time limit" to get your skills down. Like I wanna be good as x artist in x number of years or I want to primarily focus on my fundamentals for an x number of years before doing mostly personal work/working professionally etc

I ask this because the number of years you spend practicing is much easier to measure than skill level. For example, the better you get the more you learn what you don't know so it's very easy to fall into the pit of studying. I mean how do artists even know when they finally become "good enough" to put fundamental training on the side? I dunno just some rambling. Feel free to share your thoughts.

Yea, I have a rough idea -
I'm 18, next year I'm going to uni, so I have 4 years to make it or start a shit job.
In summer I'll set up a new account for drawing furry nazi gay scat porn, as I improve I'll become more picky about the stuff I'm willing to draw.
In 1-2 years, I'll set up a website similar to Proko/Ctrl+Paint where I'll have my concept art/illustration portfolio and Sycra-like tutorials to reach more people.
Maybe I'll publish a few e-books about learning the fundamentals "the fun way" to have more income from normies.

If I don't manage all this while studying, I'll have to postpone it and start paying taxes, so I better hurry.
It sounds like a good plan to me.
>>
>>2855491
you never stop practicing fundamentals.
all the professional artists i follow still brush up on their fundies pretty often, even when it's just for warming up. you have to incorporate fundies into your drawing routine, even when you've already "made it"

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.
