I majored in Accounting after dropping comp sci because I was a giant pussy at the age of 19.
Now I hate my 9-5 job of two years and want a redo.
Is the path in the subject line somewhat sensible? I'm a garbage self-teacher and would do far better in a classroom setting.
I don't want to move data around in Excel for my whole life. I'd like to learn how to create useful programs and eventually make Vidya (please hold your laughter). I've matured since freshman year and think I could actually devote myself to studying.
Bad idea or no?
If it's the wrong board, so sorry, but it's a technology degree...

"wirelessly networked" is the key. Lots of traffic lights aren't networked at all, those can only be "hacked" by breaking open the metal box near them.
But considering the state of IoT security I'd bet that any traffic light with an internet connection can be pwned pretty easily. There's a few near me that I'd love to break into just because they're so horribly timed for the traffic they face.

If you wanna be completely libre, buy an X200 and flash libreboot on it.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Dells can run either libreboot or coreboot/ May be certain models can. But if you aren't already, make sure you're running a libre distro and kernel. In my opinion, it's more important to remove proprietary software in the userland than in the firmware (not saying you shouldn't strive for both).

You're going to have to get a ThinkPad (ie X200 or T400). The Dell's are compatible with libreboot.

Is the SteelSeries Rival 500 the biggest 'MX Master' style gaming mouse? i.e., high sides, wide, with a thumb shelf?
My palm to middle finger tip is 20cm. The Logitech G900 is excellent but it's too low & narrow for me.
Alternatives:
