Why do so many people who own chickens dislike roosters? Or are at least nervous around them if the off chance that they have one. I've seen many posts on backyard chickens that go something like

>I have to make sure my roo (a retarded and unnecessary shortening of the word rooster) is out of the coop before I even head in

or

>if he gives you any trouble, give him a light bump with a broom or something

or even

>I might have to cull my roo (there's that stupid nickname again) if he doesn't quit being aggressive

Hitting him is only going to give him an even better reason to see you as a threat. I've had my black cochin rooster for two years so far, and I got him from a friend when he was one, so I didn't have the benefit of having hand raised him. Sure he didn't like me at first, and had attacked me once or twice, but I persisted in gently restraining him, picking him up and walking around with him until it got through to him that I wasn't going to hurt him. Sixth months into this routine, and I he didn't mind me in close proximity to him at all. In fact, he will eat from my hand every day and doesn't at all mind me picking him up. I love him, he's probably my favorite and friendliest bird. All I had to do was be nice to him and I earned his trust. Maybe the bitchy old country women at backyard chickens should put down the broom/axe and exercise a little bit of patience with their birds. I don't understand why they would rather kill their single rooster and go without one, than put in a little bit of effort and put up with a couple of scratches until you get through to him. It's just a rooster, you old bag. The spurs don't hurt that bad.

Do you have a rooster anon? Post a picture of him. Pic related would have been a picture of mine, but it's 4:34, my chicken coop is unlit and I have to leave in ten minutes.

I've only had one rooster but he crowed every morning so I got rid of him. Not only was it annoying to me, but I have neighbors as well and I didn't want to wake them up at 5am every morning.

I think the constant crowing + not producing any eggs is why nobody wants roosters.
>>
>>2453509
I sleep through the crowing, and it doesn't bother me when he does throughout the day. By "got rid of him" did you mean you did the responsible thing and killed him? Or did you through him to the side of the road and leave him to wander around until he's hit by a car? Even more so since you didn't mention him being aggressive, there was no reason to react with hostility. Golden rule motherfucker.
>>
Killed one of my roosters because he'd rip all the hens feathers out. Not even with his spurs, he'd just stand there, grab a beak full of feathers and tear them out.

>32 degrees C
lol
that's some bullshit you're telling me right there.

all of those animals regularly survive temperatures higher than 32C in the wild. Hell, corals are supposed to be kept at 29 or higher.
>>
>>2460310
>Water Conditions: 72-78° F, dKH 8-12, pH 8.1-8.4, sg 1.020-1.025

also great barrier reef temperatures: 24C/ 75F in the winter, peaking at 30C/ 86F summer

basically my poor little clowns went from winter to summer in a few hours

90+ degrees water temp is enough to kill any fish. It might not even of been from temperature but dissolved oxygen levels. oxygen is depleted faster at higher temperatures especially in saltwater
>>
>>2460316
>https://www.thespruce.com/reef-tank-temperatures-2924179

84-89 F is normal for these animals.

the time period of the change also isn't relevant, fish swim through thermal gradients in the ocean that may instantly change temperature by 10 degrees or more. It doesn't kill them or even bother them.

If OP doesn't understand this then his livestock undoubtedly died of his ignorance, not heat.

Anyone here into beekeeping? I'm going to start soon and would like some tips.

How do you really start, is my question.
I have the boxes and equipment ready, but need to know some things.
Do you start with just a queen? Does she build it all from scratch (per se)?

I have a breeder that will sell me a fertilized queen. Do I need anything else?

Thank you, 4chins

>>
>>2459528
You do NOT start with just a queen like ants. You need whats called a nuc, which is a queen and a shitton of workers. Youll need a deep hive body with 10 frames to start, and youll want to add another as soon as they fill it out. An entrance reducer is great for new hives to prevent raids by predators and stronger bees. Later youll want a super and 8 to 10 frames to rob honey
>>
>>2459549
I forgot to mention you could buy a queen package which is much smaller but still has hundreds if not thousands of workers. Nucs are safer bet though. Oh and get an epinephrine injection pen just in case!
>>
>>2459551
Thank you, Sir. That is all great information.

Don't need an epi pen, though. Been attacked by 7 before. It actually felt good after pulling the barbs out.

What is the point of wildlife rehabilitation? Unless its an endangered species because of humans, its death is just a part of nature and the ecosystem. in a sense its supposed to die, so what's the point in trying to save it? what does it achieve?

https://timesofsandiego.com/business/2017/08/15/seaworld-euthanizes-killer-whale-kasatka-matriarch-had-lung-disease/

Looks like another case where the animal becomes immunocompromised. I'm guessing their "world class veterinary care" stands for "pump that shit with antibiotics for years on end and pray it'll work". Just like the last three times it failed.

They actually euthanized this particular whale, though. I wonder if they did that out of compassion or because it was obvious to anyone she was rotting away (see pic related) and they didn't want more bad publicity.

After many attempts to introduce plants into the aquarium with my slider turtle, I realized that no plant was spared by the beast that eats literally anything I put into the tank.
Some time ago I found pic related for sale in transparent plastic glasses.
I carved some holes into the plastic so that water could freely flow, and put the whole thing into the tank. Leaving the plants inside those containers like that, the turtle was not able to reach them and eat them.
The only problem was that after few weeks the plants died anyway, probably because I randomly chose them based on their aesthetic appearance, without knowing the needs of each one concerning lighting, fertilization etc.
Now, I would like to try with the plants in the glasses again, but this time I would like to choose types of plants that could survive this kind of layout, so in a few words I need to know which aquarium plants
>do not need to be planted in a substrate
>do not need to be fertilized or trimmed,
>do not need specific temperature, lighting and water features.

In short, is there any kind of "all purpose" plant that left in the water that can live without maintenance?
I really liked the display in the little clay pot too.

>After many attempts to introduce plants into the aquarium with my slider turtle
I've found your problem.

Easy aquarium plants include Java Fern, Various Mosses like Java Moss and Cryptocoryne wendtii. They're not even resembling natural companions to a slider though. Certain things are just nearly impossible to do. Keeping turtles with any plants is like trying to keep Mussels with Starfish. I mean think of it like this. If you had no food except once a day, yet your captor planted your apartment with lettuce and edible plants, how many plants do you think would be left after a week?
>>
>>2456906
So the videos I see on youtube of turtles living in tanks with plants are supposed to be fake plants?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMIIColgnVk

I know there are different kind of turtles with different kind of behaviours, but after trying with various plants (anubia, water hyacinth, microsurom, pothos, even lucky bamboos) the only way to prevent the turtle from eating them is to physically separate them from him.
Since I don't want to take away space for him to swim by setting an area of the tank for the plants exclusively, I came up with this transparent glasses idea.
Can Java Fern and Cryptocoryne wendtii be set in a little pot like the ones in the pic I posted?

Anon, you're going to have to socialize your dog in order for it not to be a nervous wreck as an adult, and you might want to socialize yourself while you're at it. Pets are talking points. Dogs in particular. That's just the way it is.
