I'm an autism with an extreme anxiety disorder and need a doggo to help curb panic attacks since my cousins lab has been working extremely well. What breed would be good, and what is the best way to get the optimal support doggo?

So let's discuss intelligent animals, their capabilities and implications for our human self-esteem.

I'm gonna kick it off with:

* Apes being able to understand abstract concepts, such as good vs. bad.
* Crows solving problems
* Squids having mostly unknown, but clearly smartsy abilities.
* Dolphins being just mean assfuckers in general, for fun, which indicates intelligence
* Termites buildings cities and farming

Any of those species is longer on this planet than humans. Why didn't they succeed in building a civilisation? Or creating technology, or about anything that surpasses their evolution-given bodies? Why were humans first?

This is a huuuuuuuuuuuge topic to try and tackle.
Look at niche and anatomy of the animals in question.
There's a hypothesis that ingestion of psychedelic mushrooms made abstract thought possible.
Let's say for instance: tool for food --> eat mushroom --> killing stick --> become tribe leader.
You can also look at the physiology and anatomy of an animal as a product of its environment. Monkeys are social animals, they have hand, feet, many predators, live in complex habitats, ... Once you get to a certain level of cognitive function I guess evolution is almost guided in a "breeding by intent" kind of way.
Intelligence may have been the selection criterium for the ancestors we came from. Or, intelligence was simply also higher for species that did get selected to mate based on another trait.
In any way, it's very difficult to assess how we came to rule the world, but anatomy is a very big advantage over other animals that's for sure.
These topics are nothing more than ways to make a fun/cool/interesting origin story of mankind.
I love octopuses though.
Also: it's very difficult to assess intelligence in other animals and how they perceive their sentiency or even if conscience how we perceive it is the only way to interpret understanding and reflection of reality. The brain is a mindbogglingly complex organ.
>>
>>2462219
Well in anatomy humans don't have this much of an advantage. We're runners and maybe pack hunters. It's hard to see how this pressured us and not other animals into using tools and going on from there.

Octopodes tho, are not social, maybe they would build cities and rule the world if they'd be.

Crows are smart.

Started feeding a crow that happened to be in my garden in the morning, then it always showed up around breakfest time for more food.

So I found this little guy in a parking lot stuck on his back like a turtle. I've never seen anything like it where I live (let alone any bug this big).
Do you know what he is? Is he a wild bug or maybe something you buy to feed other animals with? I'd like to keep him as a pet if I can but he seems to have a bummed leg or something and I haven't seen him try to fly.
He's such a cute little guy though, I'm afraid if I let him out he'd just get eaten or die by himself.

Thanks a bunch. He hasn't bit me yet, but he seems too weak to do much of anything. I guess I should give him some water and maybe a slug to eat? Assuming he can eat those, wikipedia says they eat snails so maybe?

Also he can't seem to stay upright, poor guy

/an/, I need your help.

I'm about to move in with my gf of a year (sorry) in a three bedroom apt. The apartment is spacious and the floors are hardwood, no carpet in sight. We have one issue: I have a cat, and she is allergic. Her symptoms, though not severe, are frequent and unpleasant enough (some sneezing, coughing, stuffiness) to warrant some understandable apprehension about bringing him along.

He's a great cat, and this is coming from an individual who doesn't even particularly like cats. Incredibly friendly and social, and a dutiful mouser to boot. He literally saved me from an infestation at one point, so I feel strongly indebted to him. I have made some headway in rehoming him, but live in an urban epicenter and the only options which have turned up thus far are weird foreign couples who live in tenements and stoner college kids.

My question: if I purchase and use a high end brush like the furminator, is there a chance her symptoms will be diminished? Especially in a space devoid of carpet, I imagine less dander and other allergens would collect there. Or is it a false hope and I would be better saving everyone the continued discomfort and heartbreak by just rehoming?

Is it possible that your GF could get some allergy pills to help her? I know that it can work with some cases, but I don't know if it'll work with all of them. If she's already tried pills, try a brush and see if it works.

Wow, you're willing to give up your cat for a woman you've been with only a year?
There are plenty of options for people who are allergic to cats. Medication being one.

Our dog park has a row of water dishes that auto fill when water gets below a certain point. There's a group of huskies that comes every other night that basically take over this area. They will:

>dig out all the water to watch the bowls refill
>stand in the bowls with front legs in one and back legs in the other
>stand in one bowl and drink out of the other
>cry until someone drains the dirty bowls so they can dig/drink again
>push other dogs away if they try to drink out of the clean bowls

I like dog parks in theory but I always end up being there with shitty dog owners, so I avoid going to them now.
>stuck up fags with designer small breeds
>trashy people with poorly trained dogs
>they always want to talk to me about their dogs when I just want to chill and watch my dog play
Aside from my friends I really can't stand other dog owners for the most part.

A lot of the bias against raw food seems to be stemming from the fact that kibble is extremely profitable. However, many raw feeders seem like hippies and whatnot. Are there any non biased readings I can do on raw vs kibble diet for dogs?

Dogs in general tend to reflect their owner's personalities to an extent. Also they say ACDs are also hyperactive but I've seen plenty that are lazy fucks. They're pretty intelligent from what I can tell, at least enough that they can get jealous. Give them a job and they probably won't shred you couch.
>>
>>2459448
They're sought after enough as pets to have a lot of the population bred into retardation by pet and show breeders, so while they will still display a lot of the traits they were bred for, the truly good ones will come from actual working lines and not the pet / show lines.

They're good dogs, very smart, and like to "work", whether it's catching a frisbee / ball, or herding kids. Some of them can be nippy, which can be problematic with kids since the kids think they're being attacked when the dogs are just instinctively "coaxing" the kids along via their herding drives.

They are very smart and biddable, which can be as much a blessing as it is a curse.

They don't need any more exercise than your typical fit breed of dog, and in fact can be detrimental if you go in thinking they need obscene amounts of exercise. What they do need, is mental engagement, though again within reason.

They do indeed have an "off switch", though it may have to be taught.

They are good dogs, but it's imperative you do your research, and acquire them from reputable breeders (bred for working).

Here's my guy

I think either the secretary bird (kicks) or the harpy eagle (strongest eagle) would win. The andean condor is the biggest of them all, but it isn't a very keen hunter, so it might lose due to fatigue.

Cry while masturbating to the last experience you had with them. Cry a lot. And then tell someone who doesn't understand the emotional attachment that you can have with an animal how much you loved them and cry some more. Then write in a diary like you're talking to someone to get over it.

Pic related. Not my dog but looks like her. Mine died 3 months ago and I still think about her all day.
